McNamara retired from the Johnson admin and then headed the WB. That's essentially just the same---one imperialist power to another. No difference. Physical imperialism emphasized in the Johnson admin and economic imperialism emphasized in the WB. Fuck them all. Fuck this country.
This documentary doesn't even BEGIN to scratch the surface of the REAL reasons we went to war during those times in my eyes. As someone who was President of the World Bank, I think he knows a little more than he leads on...or mabye I somehow skipped a part where he spoke on that.
What did this documentary uncover? What does it teach that was unknown? 58,000 Americans died in an unnecessary war, McNamara blames Johnson, doesn't comment on questions about personal guilt, etc....previously covered ground, everything.
What this doc DOES seem to do, however, is present (in a favorable light) the rationalizations of a dying man who wants to be remembered as something other than a mass murderer. He is/was also a propagandist, and according to these comments, a damn good one.
@eponym2 I don't know what evidence you have to debunk this entire documentary, but I think the taped conversations between McNamara and Kennedy/Johnson punch holes in the image of devilry you wish to portray McNamara as.
@eponym2 I think all he is saying is that you have to play the cards you're dealt. He was a leader and he admits his guilt but at the time, what else could be expected? If you think you can blame one man, especially him, for the conflict, you're dead wrong.
Tahnk-you very much...I used this as a good excuse to procrastinate my biology homework :) but it was very enlightening

@sapperzulu yeah, I would like that, but I don't think Morris would interview a Republican, although... maybe he would.
