Franken's kind of a douche. I agree with some of his views - like human dignity and rights. But he's clearly a Kool-Aid drinker in that he actually thiks that there is a real difference between the leaders of the Democrat and Republican parties. Those on the bottom may be different, but the people who are in power don't seem to move too far off a particular and identifiable course.
Franken's energies would be better spent fighting the machine that enslaves both parties.
I think it's a needed thing for good people to be involved in politics - fighting from within is extremely important, given how rather unsuccessful people have been when fighting from the outside.
Participation in a harmful system legitimizes the system and implicitly the harm caused by the system. Non-participation, though idealistic and extremist, is the only ethically acceptable solution I've come up with.
I will not vote for a Democrat or Republican because Republicans lie, cheat, steal, rob, rape and murder. Democrats watch and say, "Hey, that's mean. Don't use a baseball bat." If the Democrats are so good why are we still murdering Iraqis?
Yeah I know what you mean - all the more important, though, for good people to make an effort from within to change things.
Of course there will always be plenty of people on the outside fighting - more people like Franken would be good - and remember with regards to Iraq, Obama was against it all the way. And in fairness to the Dems with regards to Iraq, Cheney and Bush lied to them at treasonous levels - if what they were saying about Iraq was all true, the war may well have been justified.
Oh - and with regards legitimizing the system: I honestly think we're past worrying about that: as despite many people bitching, the majority of voter age folk still go with it - which says to me that in practical terms, really the only way to change is from both within and from outside as I said before.
I don't fully agree in that the two parties are controlled by powers outside of what you and I would call "normal democracy". As an example look into K Street. As another example look into the Federal Reserve.
Voters pick between the choices given to them. Voters don't elect presidential candidates. That's a college that votes based on the voters' votes. Then when the candidate is announced to us we still don't vote for the president. The electoral college votes for us.
I'd rather vote to let a professionally trained authority rescue a child from a negligent abusive family so that Billy Bob the gun toting libertarian anarchist doesn't just show up with his shot gun and wind up getting a bunch of people shot
Apparently you missed mine. You were begging the question, so it was implicitly asked. It says a lot about your argument that your only response to my rebuttal is "you missed my point."
You're only using the word participation ambiguously. You can vote not to beat the child, but if you prevent the beating of a child that is not participation in the child's beating.
Or you can see the child getting beaten and just look the other way because you're so rebellious you believe that trying to stop the beating is the same kind of participation as literally participating in the beating itself.
that's right cinnabon-you leftist scum whine "election fraud" every time you lose, then if you win, amazingly, there is no election fraud anywhere...fascinating! Whining, lying, socialist fascists. there's some more substance for ya, hippie.
actually the recount has been the most open to the public ever. every single disputed ballot can be viewed on the web. even local FOX news sindicates and conservative papers are saying this one is air tight. sorry, but their is ZERO evidence of fraud in this case and the only ones on your side are billo and norm coleman.
actually, you couldn't be more wrong. you simply say "their (sic) is ZERO evidence of fraud" and declare reality invalid. "even FOX...". LOL. if a Repub wins "FRAUD FRAUD" if a Dem wins "MOST OPEN EVER". what childish crap. You are a reason WHY our election process is so out of whack. pls don't reply w/more "but...but...you're a bushie...but...but you and rush...". they are all crooks, and they win by using losers like you, actually.
no, when bush gets put in not by votes, but by a 5-4 supreme court vote that isnt allowed by the constitution and all 5 who voted for him were put in place or worked for his dad, its bullshit. when al wins in the most open recount ever you claim its fraud. see the difference? its a little thing called facts. sorry if actually counting the votes goes against your republican beliefs.
your understanding of law is childish. Supreme Court IS REQUIRED by Const. Why? because the State of FL violated its Const. GHWBush did not seat 5 Supreme ct justices. Gore did not win, even after recounts AS REPORTED BY THE NYTIMES (yeah, they're real Bush fans). Further, Gore attempted to block absentee military ballots...there's some freedom for ya kid. I am not a Bush supporter..sad you have to try to throw that at the wall desperately, but you are uneducated on the law and reality.
i never said you were a bush supporter, so quit claiming that i did. i compared and contrasted 2 disputed elections. i said the 5 were EITHER seated by his dad OR worked under him, so again stop misquoting me. where in the constitution does it give the supreme court athority to settle a disputed election?
"where in the constitution does it give the supreme court athority.. election?": re-read my post. FL S.C. violated the rights of the people of FL by attempting to circumvent it's own Constitution (picking and choosing recounts, as Franken is doing now). You conveniently ignore the FACT that the NYT conducted it's own recount and stated Bush was winner...but...but that's not convenient! Every single ballot where a citizen does not follow simple instructions (help on site) should be tossed.
how did fraken "pick and choose recounts"? there was one recount, it was required by state law and that one recount showed him as the winner, and was recognised by the state canvasing board. any other recount or appeal would clearly be an example of coleman "picking and choosing recounts". does it ever hurt to be so wrong, or does the stupidity dull the pain?
your stupidity makes MY head hurt. who do you think you fool by claiming the world's flat or mmgw exists or this is "the most open election ever"? fact: franken gained hundreds of votes via "correcting transcription errors". funny, every "correction" favored franken. more transcription errors than every other MN election result combined. franken lawsuit attempts to keep court from checking math and other technicalities...you know, cause he's for the truth and all. yeah, real open and honest.
fact: you claimed al franken was "picking and choosing recounts". fact: there has been only 1 official count and it showed franken won. fact: there are not multiple counts to choose from, election day count was not an official count. fact: it is physically imposible to "pick and choose" from only 1 option. fact: you were incredibly wrong and too arrogent to admit it.
i like how you can not spell, are not from US, but claim to be expert on elections. MANY uncounted ballots....much larger than the difference btwn candidates, fraudulent registrations, more "transcription errors" than all other MN elections COMBINED and ALL IN FRANKENS FAVOR (yeah, nothing odd there, nancy) and on and on. but...but a leftist "won" so it's "the most open, fair election ever". i see you can't respond to Pandoras box you opened about 2000 either. you are a clown.
way to avoid addressing my last comment because you know you got your ass totally handed to you. btw, in a past election colemans lead increased by tens of thousand from the unofficial election night result to the canvassing board, so your claim that a shift of a few hundred votes being unheard of is outright laughable. i would have been surprised if the hand recount didnt change the tally some, but that logic evades you because your canidate lost.
wrong again asshead.I didn't say there is never a "shift in votes".what i did say, clearly and concisely,is that "transcription errors in this election all favored franken and were more numerous than all other elections in that state combined on election day".this is a verifiable FACT and one reason it is in court now, w/franken,the great espouser of freedom saying "hey, let's not get any accurate count.i won even though there are precincts in which more votes were cast than citizens exist".
-there are precincts in which more votes were cast than citizens exist-
there are precints in my town(in MN) where college campuses are located. the population is more than quadrupled when college is in(like in say, NOVEMBER) so it is obvious to any reasonable person why there are more votes cast than people who are residents of those precincts. according to your logic, college kids cheated by voting.
but please answer, from what recounts did Al "pick and choose"? what were the other options?
hmmm....no. the situation you suggest is common, and yet is not considered strange or fraudulent, as in this situation. nice try. throw some more mud in the water.
The recount in Mn was done according to their laws. Name calling and personal attacks cannot change this, but can go a long way in showing everyone your character.
Supporting one party or the other all the time just means you are not smart enough to formulate your own thoughts. You have no idea where I stand regarding liberal vrs conservative. So allow me to educate you. I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Neither party represents this but Ron Paul comes closest. People who need to resort to terms like "leftist fruit" are just showing off their single digit IQs.
you are a leftist fruit. it is in vogue today for leftists to rename themselves all kinds of things. It does not confuse me at all. the MN election is a complete fraud. more changed votes in this one election than ALL other candidate elections in MN COMBINED, and ALL in favor of Franken. Ask anyone who has ever worked an election; it simply does not happen. Now stop whining hippie, you know you think IQ tests are bogus anyway.
LOL! neg away social scum! yeah, obama's for change! biden as vp, clinton retreads everywhere else. lotta change! READ THIS: you think the stupid, immature bush administration will be stealing furniture and all the "O" keys off keyboards? you bet not. who did those sorts of things....hmmmm..ah, yes, those upstanding, caring dems. grow up. both sides are crooks. keep on negging sheep....nnnnnEEEEEEEEEEGG
its expected to see the house of benjamin and the house of dan go after each other and stall elections fighting with one another. thats why they all suck at being leaders
What is wrong with people in MN?!? Who in the hell would vote for AL FRANKEN?!? Norm Coleman is a MODERATE Republican at best. AT least Coleman is intelligent and decent. Franken is just another foaming at the mouth radical liberal.
I don't get it. Maybe it's beacuse i'm young. But, all the while when I was growing up, Republican have always been the bay guys, and democrats have always made sense.
The sad part is that when you put them next to one another and listen to them talk, many comics have a much better grasp on reality that most politicians.
I dont think you should have anal intercourse with whomever you want, khattamshud. I mean, if you want to go on top of a man, shouldn't you first let him know.. you know, give him a phonecall, or write a letter? Saying that you're gay and you want to screw Al Franken is noteworthy, but to be fair, I thought that you people tended to be Democrats. I know, I know, Republicans such as yourself like young, white boys. But again, you should really try to calm down about your sexual needs in public.
Wow, Franken says he will stop the war in Iraq? I bet the terrorists are laughing at a wimp like him. He is scared and frightened by his own shadow. You do not talk about bringing the troops home and act like this kind of victim wimp. He desrerves to talk to a terrorist for dinner.
If they keep finding votes for al he will lead by 8,230,529 in another week! Stop counting, it's getting freaky. Typo's,Typo's, and more Typo's. In Illinois we call them magic votes.
I saw Norm on television. He ran away from reporters into his SUV and refused to talk to them. It certainly makes him look guilty.
I heard Al and Norm on public radio Sunday night. Al has fine ideas for education, creating jobs and alternative energy. Norm did have a few good ideas, but Al is a level above him. And I don't like Norm blaming his problem on Al instead of facing it squarely and taking responsiblity. He sounds like a whiny boy.
Norm Coleman does not have a shred of evidence to back his claim up, for all we know it could have been from Coleman's campaign just to throw a last minute accusation at Franken.
People of Minnesota, please, get rid of Bachmann and elect Tinklenberg on your 6th district, and please elect Al Franken. Republicans are a bunch of liars. I'm sick of them.
I am not from Minn. and have not been following this campaign. But, I can honestly tell you that first guy and his wife (Coleman?) is one of the worst actors I have ever seen. They look like a day-time soap opera couple about to start crying. Looks like a load of crap.
That's a Karl Rove tactic. Plant a bug, discover it, and cry cheater! It's old hat but remember the even older saying: "He who first smelt it dealt it." Hahaha.
Yes give votes to people that have no chance and take votes from the better of the two candidates standing. That's the true job of the independent party, their values are quite similar to Dem's.
"We're worse off than in 2000, due to Bush & Congress...", "Protect all voluntary associations; don't define marriage...","Can't spread our goodness through the barrel of a gun." who said this? The Independent candidate, A TRUE MAVERICK, Ron Paul!!! He is a true republican, and his views on issues lean toward the democratic side than his own. Abortion and religion should not even be, Fed issues. The Feds won't be going state to state checking the clinics out, and seperation of church and state.
The GOP says Obama is for "big" gov't. Ron Paul said "Conservatives support big government war policies...". Why waste time bullying other nations when our nation is in turmoil? Let our civilians suffer, while we fight a war that should have never transpired in the manner that it did. that's empirical evidence you give me some.
He wants to help the people... not those people. That is how he is similar. You can say what you want, but the GOP have become the Elitist Fascist Bigotry party of America!!! A far cry from what Abe Lincoln would have wished for.
Corporatism... that trickle down effect. Not buzzwords, the rich have gotten richer and the economy grew 19%. Have we the consumer been feeling the trickle down effect Repubs speak of have we? I just said fascist to dispel the myth that any political belief is pure. People call Liberals "Socialist" while we live in a socialist nation. Public school/transport, social security, etc... I just don't like when people dumb it down.
Corporatism is fascism? A stretch to say the least.
There's a reason rich people are rich and poor people are poor. They do what they do to prosper and the other do what they do to be poor. It's as simple as that.
How do you think we got the subprime crisis? Stupid poor people got houses they couldn't afford and now people expect the rich to bail them out.
I bet you didn't know that revenues went up when the capital gains taxes went down. Guess who wants to raise the capital gains tax?
"Stupid poor people..." the rich got richer off the sub-prime mortgages. Golden parachute anyone? It's not the poor that bought houses it was the middle class. The poor can't afford to make that large of an investment. BTW, corporatism was the economic basis of fascism and if you did your research you would know there are fascist symbols all around our capital. it just happens only one party supports those economic policies. Real classy on calling people you don't know out of their names. KUDOS!
And speak what you know not what THEY feed you!!! "Eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses, cut corporate taxes for firms that invest and create jobs in the United States, and provide tax credits to reduce the cost of healthcare and to reward investments in innovation." Don't be a puppet all your life. That's Obama's stance.
What I know is that Obama doesn't understand shit about the economy. In a debate with Hillary, Charlie Gibson presented him with the fact that when you raise the capital gains tax, revenues go down.
You know what his response was? "Uhhhhhh...well....that may happen. And it may not happen." WTF???
He's a rookie and on-the-job training isn't appropriate or even smart for the office of POTUS. Redistributing wealth isn't a tax plan. It's called stealing and class-warfare.
Neither is what you said... things change and his tax plan changed in 6 months go figure. That's his tax plan until you see different don't go spamming nonesense as to the man's plans.
If you spend all your time worrying about what other people think, you will never have any serious convictions of your own.
I care what other people think sometimes. I just think people like you are foolish and naive to think that things are going to be so much different now that Obama is President.
Yeah but I'm sure it's just fine that Bush got elected. I'm sure you loved all his brilliant ideas that were put forward in a thoughtful, articulate manner. Plus he was SO experienced it was practically coming out of his ass. Obama hasn't even been sworn in yet and already everyone wants to tear him down. Give the guy a chance, he has eight years of fuck uos to fix.
If George W. "Weaponsofmassdestruction" Bush had done anything to deserve respect, we would have given it to him. I don't see how running the country into the ground is something to be proud of. And Hussein? That's why you republicans lost. People got sick of that bullshit rhetoric. If Obama screws up on a level anywhere close to Bush, then that's a different story.
But from your perspective, we should give every President elect a 'chance' as you put it. He was never given a chance by libs like yourself yet you expect conservatives to trust Obama, a rookie, with the fate of a country in crisis?
Sounds a tad partisan to me. that's fine, but don't act like we should give him a chance when you guys didn't do the same for us.
Hussein is his middle name. Barack Hussein Obama...Oooooooohhhh...we're being racist!!!!
Oh and you're not acting partisan at all. Bush had his chance, and he showed us nothing but incompetence. 8 years of it. If you can't do the job right in that amount of time then I think that says it all. I never said you were racist but unless you address everyone by their middle name, it seems odd to me. I didn't notice you calling Bush "Walker".
Well... you see the race if I am wrong on all accounts why isn't it 33% 33% 33%? Anyone who follows politics knows that is what independents usually end up doing. Repubs vote republican, but moderates and liberals aren't as loyal. That's what Republicans count on...
Coleman is trying to rally the base who are thinking of sitting this election out and hoping he strips away votes from Franken via Barkley
The fighting between the Democrat and Republican is how Ventura won as Governor, though Barkley is too far down in the polls to win
This is a desperate attempt by Coleman, his Hail Mary Pass. He's floundering and hoping for a squeaker to challenge or a better job offer when he loses
Standard issue Rovian endgame, when all else fails, go all self righteous and weep, claim unfair no matter how foul you may have acted yourself. If that fails, just do a little voter suppression and caging and make sure you know the hack codes for the voting machines.
al franken won a DEmocratic election so why are yous guys hatin'?it s like saying you like the patriot act to say "fuck voting."

you are a leftist fruit. it is in vogue today for leftists to rename themselves all kinds of things.

Quit disenfranchising voters with your ridiculous ballot challanges.

I'm in Minneapolis and I voted for Al Franken!

Vote independent in Minnesota.
GivettheGAS 3 years ago
Yes give votes to people that have no chance and take votes from the better of the two candidates standing. That's the true job of the independent party, their values are quite similar to Dem's.
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
Wrong on all accounts.
GivettheGAS 3 years ago
"We're worse off than in 2000, due to Bush & Congress...", "Protect all voluntary associations; don't define marriage...","Can't spread our goodness through the barrel of a gun." who said this? The Independent candidate, A TRUE MAVERICK, Ron Paul!!! He is a true republican, and his views on issues lean toward the democratic side than his own. Abortion and religion should not even be, Fed issues. The Feds won't be going state to state checking the clinics out, and seperation of church and state.
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
The GOP says Obama is for "big" gov't. Ron Paul said "Conservatives support big government war policies...". Why waste time bullying other nations when our nation is in turmoil? Let our civilians suffer, while we fight a war that should have never transpired in the manner that it did. that's empirical evidence you give me some.
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
Not one of Ron Paul's economic policies reflect that of the Democratic Party's. They are so incredibly different. It's not close.
mbelma6329 3 years ago
He wants to help the people... not those people. That is how he is similar. You can say what you want, but the GOP have become the Elitist Fascist Bigotry party of America!!! A far cry from what Abe Lincoln would have wished for.
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
What people? Not all people. Do some matter more than others and who are you to decide that?
Ron Paul is part of the GOP. And those word are just buzzwords you guys use to describe anyone who disagrees with you.
Name one fascistic and bigoted piece of policy that Republicans have advanced.
mbelma6329 3 years ago
Corporatism... that trickle down effect. Not buzzwords, the rich have gotten richer and the economy grew 19%. Have we the consumer been feeling the trickle down effect Repubs speak of have we? I just said fascist to dispel the myth that any political belief is pure. People call Liberals "Socialist" while we live in a socialist nation. Public school/transport, social security, etc... I just don't like when people dumb it down.
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
Corporatism is fascism? A stretch to say the least.
There's a reason rich people are rich and poor people are poor. They do what they do to prosper and the other do what they do to be poor. It's as simple as that.
How do you think we got the subprime crisis? Stupid poor people got houses they couldn't afford and now people expect the rich to bail them out.
I bet you didn't know that revenues went up when the capital gains taxes went down. Guess who wants to raise the capital gains tax?
mbelma6329 3 years ago
"Stupid poor people..." the rich got richer off the sub-prime mortgages. Golden parachute anyone? It's not the poor that bought houses it was the middle class. The poor can't afford to make that large of an investment. BTW, corporatism was the economic basis of fascism and if you did your research you would know there are fascist symbols all around our capital. it just happens only one party supports those economic policies. Real classy on calling people you don't know out of their names. KUDOS!
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
Yes. Stupid poor people. It's not a surprise that people with lower than normal IQ's have a smaller bankroll than the intellectually gifted.
Give me one symbol at the capitol that originated from a fascist regime and please name the time frame and leader.
mbelma6329 3 years ago
And speak what you know not what THEY feed you!!! "Eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses, cut corporate taxes for firms that invest and create jobs in the United States, and provide tax credits to reduce the cost of healthcare and to reward investments in innovation." Don't be a puppet all your life. That's Obama's stance.
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
What I know is that Obama doesn't understand shit about the economy. In a debate with Hillary, Charlie Gibson presented him with the fact that when you raise the capital gains tax, revenues go down.
You know what his response was? "Uhhhhhh...well....that may happen. And it may not happen." WTF???
He's a rookie and on-the-job training isn't appropriate or even smart for the office of POTUS. Redistributing wealth isn't a tax plan. It's called stealing and class-warfare.
mbelma6329 3 years ago
The quote was from Obama's tax plan... obviously empirical evidence doesn't matter to you.
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
A tax plan isn't 'empirical evidence'. Look up the definition.
mbelma6329 3 years ago
Neither is what you said... things change and his tax plan changed in 6 months go figure. That's his tax plan until you see different don't go spamming nonesense as to the man's plans.
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
Relying on or derived from observation or experiment. I read it the tax plan is on paper, therefore I dare say that's empirical mon frere.
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
I'm still waiting on that fascistic symbol at the capitol...
mbelma6329 3 years ago

If you spend all your time worrying about what other people think, you will never have any serious convictions of your own.
I care what other people think sometimes. I just think people like you are foolish and naive to think that things are going to be so much different now that Obama is President.
mbelma6329 3 years ago
Yeah but I'm sure it's just fine that Bush got elected. I'm sure you loved all his brilliant ideas that were put forward in a thoughtful, articulate manner. Plus he was SO experienced it was practically coming out of his ass. Obama hasn't even been sworn in yet and already everyone wants to tear him down. Give the guy a chance, he has eight years of fuck uos to fix.
mannish1234 3 years ago 2
We will give President Hussein Obama the same love and respect Democrats have given George W. Bush the past 8 years.
mbelma6329 3 years ago
If George W. "Weaponsofmassdestruction" Bush had done anything to deserve respect, we would have given it to him. I don't see how running the country into the ground is something to be proud of. And Hussein? That's why you republicans lost. People got sick of that bullshit rhetoric. If Obama screws up on a level anywhere close to Bush, then that's a different story.
mannish1234 3 years ago 5
But from your perspective, we should give every President elect a 'chance' as you put it. He was never given a chance by libs like yourself yet you expect conservatives to trust Obama, a rookie, with the fate of a country in crisis?
Sounds a tad partisan to me. that's fine, but don't act like we should give him a chance when you guys didn't do the same for us.
Hussein is his middle name. Barack Hussein Obama...Oooooooohhhh...we're being racist!!!!
mbelma6329 3 years ago
Oh and you're not acting partisan at all. Bush had his chance, and he showed us nothing but incompetence. 8 years of it. If you can't do the job right in that amount of time then I think that says it all. I never said you were racist but unless you address everyone by their middle name, it seems odd to me. I didn't notice you calling Bush "Walker".
mannish1234 3 years ago 3
Well... you see the race if I am wrong on all accounts why isn't it 33% 33% 33%? Anyone who follows politics knows that is what independents usually end up doing. Repubs vote republican, but moderates and liberals aren't as loyal. That's what Republicans count on...
DezzyRaY 3 years ago
Coleman is trying to rally the base who are thinking of sitting this election out and hoping he strips away votes from Franken via Barkley
The fighting between the Democrat and Republican is how Ventura won as Governor, though Barkley is too far down in the polls to win
This is a desperate attempt by Coleman, his Hail Mary Pass. He's floundering and hoping for a squeaker to challenge or a better job offer when he loses
most people can see though you Norm

Standard issue Rovian endgame, when all else fails, go all self righteous and weep, claim unfair no matter how foul you may have acted yourself. If that fails, just do a little voter suppression and caging and make sure you know the hack codes for the voting machines.
