Pernell Roberts was a great rolemodel for me. I didn't even realized he would play a son on a groundbreaking TV show, before I would realized he would play a doctor, just like Robert Fuller did, before, but younger. In nearly the same situation as Fuller, Roberts also guest-starred in a lot of Westerns, in addition to "Bonanza," the TV show for the role that he hated so much. He felt he was too old to play Adam. He was a real Southern Gentlemen. Born here In N..C. and raised in Savannah Georgia. He and i had lunch on more than several occasions at the Chard house in Topanga, I would order him sweet acidophiles milk, he gave me an autograph picture and told me that i was the first person he has given it to in 26 years. From his mouth to my ears.
He had a VW BUG VAN newer model with Savannah on the plates, I have even been to his House in big rock Part of Malibu,, He lived near Mark Hamel another good friend of mine.
@GooglFascists, I think you're missing the point. A memorial service was held in California right after his death. This service was held to honor him six months later -- in his hometown of Waycross. Waycross is a very small town in Georgia located on the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp. It's where he grew up.
Local and regional friends, family and fans wanted to honor this home-town boy of whose accomplishments they were so proud.
I met Pernell back in 92, we became friends, He never liked working on bonanza, he was a Broadway star and felt like he was one of 4 stars, but wanted to be the main one, he never regretted leaving, didn't want nothing to do with it, wanted to do some of the writing, but wasn't allowed to do so, but Michael was, His stand in was a woman, didn't like that,,, he also told me that he never ever practice his lines, they fed them to him on the fly.
From me, I love him to... I hope I meet you in heaven someday. And I will love you forever... Let the wind blow in your hair when you ride into the heaven. For me you were my shining star.. And I will never, never ever forget you. Let the angels watch over you, and protect you in the heaven. For all the times who will come.. I will on earth, look up on the stars, and thinking on you, all the times. I just LOVE you so much. Amazing. Pernell Roberts.. R.I.P. Wonderful man..
Sure wish the audio was better. Can barely understand what is being said. I am a huge fan and was so angry that there was no news coverage and no mention of him at any of the award shows "in memorium" segments.
