Distance Education (D.E.) can be during session 1 only as Sessions 1a and 1b, which takes about 6 months. Basically, it splits the on-campus (full time) session into two and making it twice as long.
Session 2 has to be completed on-campus, which you complete in just over 3 months.
I strongly recommend this course as it's not just a training ground for a fulfilling policing career but also prepares you to deal with most of life's many challenges, etc.
HSC or equivalent minimum academic qualifications as required when applying for Uni.
The Associate Degree in Policing Practice is the course you study at the NSW Police College in Goulburn with the academic side managed by Charles Sturt University. All police training is provided by NSW Police.
I'm at the PSA stage of my application now, Im waiting to hear when i have to do my fitness test. Im anxious but i can't wait. This is just making me more excited!
You should be getting a call within a couple of weeks I think. Be prepared for your fitness testing date to then be following week or if you choose, about 2 weeks later.
I am very interested to see this show and believe it is going to be good, however I disagree with it, I believe showing the crooks some of Police procedures and tactics it is not a very good idea. But it is on, so lets watch it. By the way, it is only 6 and a half months down in Goulburn.
I'm sure they'll be very sensitive with what gets shown. By the way, if you choose to study it via "Distance Ed" you'll only need to spend 3 months down there (plus a total of 3 weeks of residential schools during your first 2 trimesters).
I see why they introduced the degree course, because they are easily promoted without being sent off and paid by the force to attain tertiary education quals in later time throughout their careers. Also it's keeping CSU in business as well. Initially Qld & Tasmania were the two hardest forces to get into before NSW adopted this program (1997), but it seems NSW really caught up and decided to establish itself as the premier police force.... ACT sounds a better deal to me as an ex ADF member!!!!
With the 2-4 week mid session break it does end up being around the 8 month mark...and you don't automatically "get employed as a probationary Constable" either...you have to actually pass everything and still obtain employment through Attestation. Then another 12 months study via distance education whilst in your probationary year. A big commitment.
...and enjoy the completely different type of work. Plastic land isn't all swanky suit and tie heroics tv would have you believe. Ohhh let's do TI's for 6 months upon graduating. No thankyou. At least with NSW you get recognised tertiary qualifications you can build upon later in your career and use in civvy street.
Mate don't comment when you don't know what u r talking about - it is 2 lots of 14 weeks (full-time) (or you can do session 1 by distance which takes twice as long for session 1) then if you gradutae you have a year of study afterwards (whilst working - longer if you fail subjects). Yeah it is shit it is at your own expense but if you wanna join the job thats your only option
No MATE.... If I want to comment (whether you see it as right or wrong), then I'll fucken do so. Iam not really interested in the NSW police or how long their bullshit course runs for, as other state police forces could have you fully trained, walking the beat and guaranteed of a job in half the time without going through the bureaucratic wringer that NSW is reputable for!!
hey i was just wondering if it is possible to become a police officer if you do your schooling through tafe or distance education ?

It depends on their reason. It may be based on either academic or professional suitability.

You're only down there for 3-6 months (at your own expense), then you're employed as a probationary constable for a year whilst studying from home.
