After further research I have found that in application when using press, the opposite palm can vary anywhere from the inner palm/wrist of the other hand to the inner elbow. In the initial wardoff he faces to the right. In some variations the practitioner faces to the front when doing ward off.
When performing press I'm not sure of where to place the palm of my opposite hand. One instructor, who practiced a variation of the Yang style, told me that the hand does not actually make contact with the inner arm. It appears that Yang Zhenduo's palm is making contact somewhere along the middle of his inner forearm. In some cases I have seen others appear to make contact closer to the wrist. The area near the wrist seems to be very delicate. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Yang Cheng Fu was undefeated over a generation-long period when there was an open challenge to anyone to fight him. His form is what it is, and is designed for combat training. The fact that it is accessible to those who are not well conditioned or those who are middle aged is beside the point.
There are a lot of (martial)applications for many of the moves shown in this clip(grabs, locks, throws, pushes), but bare in mind that this is only part 1 (earth) and 2 (man), it's lacking part 3 (spirit) which has more strikes (kicks, punches, etc.) in it.
Fun fact: The yang Cheng-Fu Style kept my ailments away as long as i kept it up...The Yang Lu'Chaan Style however has started healing my ailments (backproblems + chronic tendonites) after only a half year of practising it...Also my general chi is stronger now than before...It must be because of the superiority of the yang cheng-fu style i guess ;)
I started out in taiji with this style...Having now progressed to the Yang Lu'Chaan Style, I must say the Yang Cheng-Fu style is very watered out compared to the old Lu'Chaan Style...It has been made easier so more people could do it, but at the same time it has lost a lot of its deeper martial elements...
The Yang Luchan Style is not a traditional Style passed down, from Generation to Generation, it's a creation of Erle Montaigue. If you believe that this is less watered, ok everyone can have an opinion...
Yeah, ok...good everyone can have their opinion...However, yours is based on your ignorance...Why dont u look up yang lu'chaan on wikipedia mr.know-it-all ;)
@michaeldique Usually I don't answer to complete nonsense. I know who Yang Luchan was, but when you talk about the so called Yang Luchan Form, which is promoted by Erle Montaigue, then please come up with historical facts and not with your stubborned religious like views
@Heping1 : Yang Cheng-Fu wanted to give taiji to the chinese people to make them stronger against foreigners, who at the time were plentyful in chine. The opium wars, the japs...To do this he made the yang style easier to do by removing a lot of teqniques such as jump kicks and fa-jing movements...It is kinda funny seeing how knowledgeable the people who only trained yang cheng-fu seem to think they are about a style they never trained (yang lu'chaan). How is a style made easier not watered down
Heping1, this michael guy should go to Yong Nian, China and start spreading this watered down garbage talk around there. In fact I know a very old chinese man there that would set him straight with just a touch....but the old man doesn't do the old Lu Chan style, just the watered down Chen fu one, old guy doesn't know any better I guess. Michael should go tell him......would love to see that.
If you say that Yang Style has lost it's deeper martial arts elements you are mistaken, you just have the wrong teacher or are just a lack of insight or both,
as forms are not as important as much as the internal aspects of Taiji.
Amazing that none of the current Yang family have yet to progress to the so called rare old Lu Chan Style, but you must be great to have mastered the Yang style already. Could we see your form?
Teachers say it is not the art that is lacking but the student.
@taijispirit1 : If you have trained for more than 10 years you must have a crappy teacher who has forgotten to teach you common courtesy when talking to other people. You would probably like a lot of things, however I see no reason whatsoever why I need to prove anything for an uncivilized hater like yourself...I do not believe you have trained taiji for even a year with the mentality you show here ;) The alternative is you have understood very little of your teacher's lessons...
@michaeldique.. hater, common courtesy? it seems you are the ignorant one, your language proves the point clearly you can insult me but to disparage my teachers shows you have a childish mind.
@taijispirit1 : Sure man...whatever you need to believe ;) You'll read anything I say the way you want to anyway...You already have...Have a nice day :)
