The Soviet union put Saddam Hussein in power and armed him for 20 years (I've literally seen the cyrillic lettering on some of his equipment, at the 1st CAV museum on Ft. Hood). The US trained Massoud's Northern Alliance forces, not those of Bin Laden al Qaeda. We certainly do arm Israel (with good reason), and sold aid to Iran partially to prevent Iraq from succeeding in their invasion of the country.

I've also seen Iraq's TOE from the Ba'ath era. They had some weapons systems from France (some Mirage jets, Exocet missiles), and some equipment from a number of other smaller players in the arms market, but nothing from the US. The closes were some "dual use" utility helicopters that were initially bought for civilian use.

The vast majority (certainly over 80%) of Iraq's military equipment came from Warsaw Pact countries, most notably the Soviet Union. That includes their poison gas.

Saddam Hussein got his chemical weapons from the Soviet Union, not the US. Leftists will lie about this, but the evidence against the USSR is too overwhelming - especially as they were simultaenously using such weapons in Afghanistan.

I do think we should separate the ideas of socialism from the ideology of Marxist Bolshevism, which all too often (as is becoming apparent here) devolves into a form of Slavic fascism. Viktor Bout is an international criminal, recognized as such by Interpol, and should not be given a bye simply on the basis of a traditional Bolshevik hatred of all things American.
