I know it happens in the wild but its like you condemned the rodent or whatever to death and again yes the pre killed stuff has already been condemned.
Don't know... I mean when I see it on those shows, lions, snakes, birds, whatever it seems so normal - circle of life stuff, you know?
But live feeding just feels all sorts of wrong for me.
@2580aries i no exactly how u feel man besides live feeding can injure the snake. trueit happens in the wild but that why not all wild snakes live long
natasha your redtail boa has some really intense patterns and great feeding shots i remember when my female ball python was young she always ate butt first but now she goes for the head everytime =)
yah, good lesson from this is to bang the rat on the ground 4 or 5 times to almost kill it before putting it in there. The snake does not need to get bit while it's feeding. But since that rat is just a snack for a 7 footer, it probably couldn't have suffered too much damage regardless. Love Red Tails.
Sorry to hear about his snake, although the fact that he fed it live rats might have had a factor in why it passed, the rats can inflict wounds(probably did in this video) which take a very long time to heal, and can get infected.
You should make sure your snake stays healthy after he got bit by his food.. just giving you a tip. I have owned 3 different pythons and I know they can get sick from being bit or injured by their food or prey.
Those rats are abouth the perfect size. The huge rats and aspecially the giant old males can be realy strong and vicious and the bonestructure is much harder.
A boa in captivity can become up te 30 years off age with about 1 rat a week makes 1500 opportunity's to get "just a litle" scar. And she only has two eyes....
Then all comments would be like "dude what have you done to that pour snake" !!
@moekakke i completely agree with you i switched mine to frozen after the previous owner has a mouse to big for my snake iggy so now he has a huge scar so i suggest to everyone so either switch to frozen or prekilled
Prekilled would be my choice if you not freese them yourself. Every year whem it becomes
wintertime i freese al of my breeders ans yust keep some young males and feemales separated
so i can easely start again next year. That way i always know that the ones frozen are good and
healty animals. When i feed my snakes frozen i'm always defrost them 24 houres. Still i prefer live pray and always stay with the snake so when the rat want to bite i put a wooden stick in its mouth. ;-)
i had a small python about a foot long. He had no problem killing and eating small mice so we decided to get one a lil bigger about an hour later the large mouse chewed off the side of the snakes face.
you need bigger food for sure...mine eats XXL rats and those are actually to small for her now. She is about 7 foot as well. I am about to bump her up to chickens and rabbits. Just a suggestion.
you really dont know how to take care of sanks. For one her shedding is f'd up. it should come off as one whole skin. Your humidity is to low. why isnt there any type of bedding? Second, there is no hide box for her. THEY NEED THE HIDE BOX!!! I know i have 4 RTB(Red tail Boa) Third you should feed her a pray that is as big as her biggest part of her body like a jumbo rat should do the trick. I just hate seeing people who dont know how to properly take care of a snake. JUST SICKING!!!!!!
@jcanterbury53001 This is a feeding box dumbass ! and no.. it will never have a shed that comes off in one piece Fact.! you need to stop looking after cornsnakes and thinking ther requirements are for all other snakes
@jcanterbury53001 i had a kingsnake whos shed came off in one piece.. ONCE! the my ball python never had a solid shed. plus, if theres no substrate, its probably just a feed bok. and thirdly, a lot of big snakes dont need the hide box because they're not as insecure as the smaller ones
Learn how to keep and care for a snake before getttin one such as a red tail boa!!! The snake hasn't shed properly if you look you can see cleary all the remaining skin still on snake.... People like you make me what to kill!! I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire punk!!!
@TheFrazierjon92 One bad skin shed won't kill the reptile. for gods sake dude chill the fuck out, it's like you figure something out and then you have to go rage about it ffs.
My BCI seems to spend 15 minutes thinking about it and then its like "what the hell" and eats. Great disposition very easy to hold even at 6ft great snakes.
I have the same snake. His name is Sammy and he eats large rats :3 he's 5 feet long (almost as tall as me) I love it when they eat mice, it's funny because it looks like they're eating spaghetti lol. For my snake, the rat's don't really move that much, it might be the position the snake got it on..
I have the same snake. His name is Sammy and he eats large rats :3 he's 5 feet long (almost as tall as me) I love it when they eat mice, it's funny because it looks like they're eating spaghetti lol
I dont understand why everyones bitching about it, the snake passed away, yes the snake couldve handled a MUCH bigger rat/rabbit because my 5 ft redtail isnt half as fat and ate a 3 pound jumbo rat last week. but, it will hold the snake over for a while.
Would you rather feed the snake the rat or let the snake die and get in trouble for animal cruelty and neglect? the rat was breed to be food the snakes however being the bigger animal (survival of the fittest) is simply following instinct :) P.S. both snakes are very beautiful it looks like Natasha had a happy home and life
This is just my own personal curiosity speaking. I don't LIKE watching animals die, frankly it upsets me, but that being said, I understand how nature works, and I'm not one of those people who's going to complain about people taking videos like this.
What I want to know, is why do so many people feed live prey to their snakes, and not dead animals? Is it for convenience sake, or is it more healthy for the snakes?
@BrixXSM Some snakes will not take dead food so the best way to get them to eat is to feed live. On the other hand some people are to lazy to thaw out mice for snakes. But I prefer to feed dead because live can hurt the snake during feeding. Some is because the snake picky and others are just owners choice.
this is actually a Perfect clip of why its a good idea to feed/get younger snakes used to frozen food. that rat could have bitten Deeply n done some serious damage to that boa..
come on...would u rather see a snake die or a rat. Lets see here...rats are a pest. enemy to the food WE eat. Farmers like snakes in the fields because rats do nothing but destroy and ruin crops. Snakes don't eat fruits or or vegetables. They eat the damn diseased rat crawling around and contaminating out food. Sometimes people just need to think.
F#@% that! When I get a red-tailed boa, I'm ONLY gonna feed it pre-killed rodents! Ever had any aggressiveness in any boa from feeding it live rodents?
i have heard of some people who barely knew about what kind of snake they had and what to do with it when they bought it. people should study a snake (or any other animal) before they buy it.
Another thing you may wish to tell your friend if he still has snakes... When feeding a snake more than one animal, you actually want to drop in the second one as she is unwinding from the first. She will kill the second (and third) before eating, preventing her jaw and throat from repeatedly opening and closng. That's not good for the snake, and they don't eat like that in the wild. I wish people were required to take a herpetology class before buying them. Also - DO NOT feed while shedding!
Ok, this actually explains a bit more. I'm not sure what your friend was thinking in keeping the snakes in that kind of cage, but is he not aware that they are tropical animals? A sign of a healthy snake is when they aren't "In the process of shedding," but slip their skin off in one piece. The patchy shed of this snake is a fine demonstration of poor handling and care. The lack of substrate or a humidity box further emphasizes my point. 7' long and dead? Her life was cut WAY too short.
@moremoreenough & oMgmAooNmanNe: You are one of the boring creatures of the world, not the snakes. I know there are stupid guys and clever guys, but to stupid to see the beauty of snakes?
Oh my god...o.O'
And to wish a snake is dead...you´ll get a place in the hell, my friend.(or better enemy)
I love other animals too, but if there were no snakes, the nature will be more broken as it is now.(Lions never eat little animals like birds, so they would be too many etc)
it's 7 feet and you are only feeding it med. sized rats? i mean it looks 7 feet i would think by now its very well able to handle a large rat if not bigger.
why do people get upset and say its cruel to feed ur snake a rat. its how the world works. the snake needs to eat. it happens in the wild all the time anyways. i have a pet rat that i love and i have a redtail boa that i feed rats. i had a rabbit once and a huge boa constrictor that my family fed rabbits. i hate PETA the rat served its purpose of life so im happy for the rat haha. i had to sell my large snakes so now i only have my ball python. but ive been getting a lot of tarantulas lately
@420simpson: Its not that people are saying to not feed it at all. I think the main argument is the degree of pain the animal goes through. Yes it happens in the wild but why put animals through unessary pain when they dont have to. I understand that certain snakes only feed on live animals and if there is nothing that can be done about that then thats just the way it is. However, its not like that in every case...
The only thing I hate is the situations we instill on some of these animals the snakes feed on, like in all seriousness when would a snake ever come in contact with a goose or rabbit?
I just mean some of the animals we feed to snakes and shit live in completely different habitats then the animals we feed them. Maybe not rats or anything like that but rabbits I dont see how.
@Saito684 hahahhaahahahha....what is wrong with you rabbits live on every continent other than the south pole....africa, asia, europe, north america, south america, and australia all have rabbits. i dont think your that stupid.....

I love other animals too, but if there were no snakes, the nature will be more broken as it is now.(Lions never eat little animals like birds, so they would be too many etc)

why do people get upset and say its cruel to feed ur snake a rat. its how the world works. the snake needs to eat. it happens in the wild all the time anyways. i have a pet rat that i love and i have a redtail boa that i feed rats. i had a rabbit once and a huge boa constrictor that my family fed rabbits. i hate PETA the rat served its purpose of life so im happy for the rat haha. i had to sell my large snakes so now i only have my ball python. but ive been getting a lot of tarantulas lately

@420simpson
The only thing I hate is the situations we instill on some of these animals the snakes feed on, like in all seriousness when would a snake ever come in contact with a goose or rabbit?
Saito684 1 year ago
@Saito684 a snake comes in contanct with a goose or rabbit everyday in the wild everyday......i dont understand your comment. snakes eat in the wild.
420simpson 1 year ago
@420simpson
I just mean some of the animals we feed to snakes and shit live in completely different habitats then the animals we feed them. Maybe not rats or anything like that but rabbits I dont see how.
Saito684 1 year ago
@Saito684 hahahhaahahahha....what is wrong with you rabbits live on every continent other than the south pole....africa, asia, europe, north america, south america, and australia all have rabbits. i dont think your that stupid.....
420simpson 1 year ago
@Saito684 what does it matter? we eat meat and we get the meat in the most unnatural way possible
