i feel like I have used some of these techniques with my own daughter not knowing any better and not knowing how to handle her physically violent outbursts toward me (kicking me, biting me, digging skin out of my arms, etc) I got no help from counselors back then so I held her tightly in my arms till she stopped swinging at me, tried to talk to her, and then let her go when she calmed down. I have had treatment for borderline personality disorder (big attachment issues) My treatment was excellent (mentalisation based). If someone had pinned me down and told me how I feel and told me to say "I need you to want me" I would have bitten their nose off. I needed to acknowledge that I wanted to be loved - but there are ways to do it. To force someone like this is emotional abuse and creates even more anger, confusion and rebellion. A person needs to FEEL it, not just be made to say it.

i feel like I have used some of these techniques with my own daughter not knowing any better and not knowing how to handle her physically violent outbursts toward me (kicking me, biting me, digging skin out of my arms, etc) I got no help from counselors back then so I held her tightly in my arms till she stopped swinging at me, tried to talk to her, and then let her go when she calmed down. Now, I realize that I probably did the very thing I despise in these videos. She is 17 now, doing ok

I just don't believe all these kids have a disorder. Any child can grow, and want to learn when there is love in the home. A child will never respect, love, or trust someone who treats them like they are a problem. There used to be a time when kids were not given drugs, or labeled for behaviors children normally do. Now we are stuck with people like this doing sick things to children.

I will say that you obviously do not have a child with RAD or you wouldn't be so quick to say that there isn't a disorder! There behaviors are NOT what children "normally" do, unless you think hiding knives and saying that they want to kill their families is "normal".
What this woman is doing in the video is horrific and I do NOT support her methods at ALL, but you can't make blanket statements like you did; especially about a subject that you are obviously ignorant about!

@bamajules How can a child think about these horrible things without something or someone exposing them to those thoughts. Kids don't just think about killing people out of the clear blue sky. Sounds more like demonic possession or abuse to me. Kids are not monsters these things were never heard of in the old days now all of a sudden we have all these kids who have disorders it is just hard to believe that is true. Unless you factor in all the chemicals being pumped into the human race daily.

I can only add one thing to the rest of these comments. Thank you for making this video! Treating and parenting children with RAD is difficult, but must involve EMPATHY for the child's feelings. The child has been through hell trying to find someone who will love and care for him/her properly. The parent and/or therapist needs to be extremely kind, sensitive, clear, respectful and consistent so that maybe the child can come to trust them.

This so called therapy seems like the actual abuse, I sincerely feel this is a serious form of trauma for these children. I have had treatment for borderline personality disorder (big attachment issues) My treatment was excellent (mentalisation based). If someone had pinned me down and told me how I feel and told me to say "I need you to want me" I would have bitten their nose off. I needed to acknowledge that I wanted to be loved - but there are ways to do it. To force someone like this is emotional abuse and creates even more anger, confusion and rebellion. A person needs to FEEL it, not just be made to say it.
