I love lists and I love debate! My Top 7 would have Hedberg, Carlin and Wright, too. Where's Kinison, Pryor or Rock?

Carlin is hands down the greatest of all-time, but Hicks, Pryor, Hedberg, Black, Cosby, CK, and Seinfeld came close.

@hahhhahhhaha not all..but too many of the great black comedians rely on the typical white vs black comparison style of comedy. it just gets old and unoriginal. pryor and murphy are hilarious don't get me wrong, but they fall in this category...i think chappell has done a very good job of delivering an original comedic style tho.

Pretty good list...I wouldn't put them in any numerical order, though...from what I've seen with music and comedy, it's all good and unique in it's own way, and it's all pretty subjective. I like what I like, but I don't think it's necessarily better than other things that are good. Once it reaches a certain level of quality, it's just good! lol

Nice! All good comedians! My list would be huge. I like different comedy depending on my mood. Jim Gaffigan is another good one. Currently Bill Burr is my favorite comedian alive...got to see him live twice, and it was awesome both times. Nothing wrong with liking all these comedians, people! If it makes you laugh it's funny, even if it's not someone else's idea of good. Humor is too subjective for competition.

I like that you acknowledged that you acknowledges how being funny and having social commentary can be two seperate things, cuz some people don't. people will tell me a guy is hilarious sometimes and I'll be like what the hell?

The cool thing about Bill Hocks is he really is both. Only on a rare occasion will he just go on a rant without jokes in it. It;s usually hilarious too.

Cuz to me, social commentary comes second. If you have it, great, but the most important thing is being funny.

Mitch makes me laugh in a way that can't be duplicated. He was so different. One of the most over the top comedians and yet me and my twelve yr old daughter can laugh at his jokes together. He will be missed.
