as for playing old songs, the band likes to focus on new material, so whatever album is out at the time, they play mostly that and a few older songs. however, when I saw them in 2008 at the end of the YM tour here in the US they closed the show with a brutally amazing version of "Israel's Son" and after the show Dan did a beautiful acoustic version of "Cemetery" at the radio promo booth. he just hates Frogstomp because he was a kid and it was more influence than art to him. unlike the new stuff

As for SC's lyrics on Frogstomp and Freak show. Though not very thought provoking for adults, those lyrics and thoughts were quite progressive for kids their age. Yet, I don't find their lyrical content to be all that great these days either. I was more for their music style. Simple, raw, and heavy.

It's not just the musical or the lyrical writings that make a band, it's the emotions that they bring about...whether it be from the music, lyrics, attitude, etc. Did you ever crowd surf at an SC concert when they were 15? I did. That's what was amazing about them. They were 15-16 years old, and they where kickin' other bands asses at festivals, and had the fans going nuts. Now they're just ordinary.

I have to admit though, Young Modern is not my favourite style of music. I enjoy their older albums much more, particularly Neon Ballroom and Freak Show. But on the other hand, I think they had to develop as a band. I'd probably respect them less if they hadn't.

They won't even play songs like Tomorrow, Abuse Me, Faultline, Cicada, Irael's Son, Pure Massacre, etc. live in concert. It's disappointing.

They do play Freak and The Door...but not Israel's Son, Pure Massacre, Suicidal Dream, Faultline, Cicada, Abuse Me, Tomorrow, Shade, MadMan, or anything else from Frogstomp and Freakshow. I saw them in '97, and on the YM tour. In '97 they tore the fuckin' roof off the place, and on the YM tour, they played the lamest "rock" show that I have ever seen. They played a few from NB, a few from Diorama, and the rest were from YM. The Door and Freak being the ONLY heavy songs they played.

Silverchair has been my favorite band since I was 8! (I'm 23 now) No matter how many musical fazes I went through they've always been the best in my books and I love the way their music has matured. Although so far my fave is still Diorama.

Same here! I've gone through many, many phases, and Silverchair are one of the very few bands that have stuck with me the longest. My favorite is also Diorama (the one album I hated at first, but grew to love). I think the fact that Silverchair have such loyal long-time fans are because they aren't afraid to experiment with new styles and mature in sound. Plus, Daniel's voice is still as beautiful as it was the first time I heard him.

Loved Them since they first Appeared on Saturday Night Live. Have all their Albums. From Austin and I went to one of their concerts, best time. It was a club setting so it was more intimate. So Cool. Can't wait till next Album.

I understand everyone has different tastes and likes different kinds of music. Daniel is just like us in that aspect. As young teens, they played similar to that of Sabbath and Zeppelin if you know anything about their bio. Most people in bands at that time were into transforming classic rock into hard rock, in which made grunge and post-grunge. I grew up listening to these guys since the Tomorrow EP, and I have nothing to complain about. It's all the best music I've ever heard. :D

I think they do fantastic work, I'm much more impressed with a band that constantly pushes the boundaries as opposed to just recreating the same old sound over & over. If you listen to all the albums in concession, there's no "360 overnight" - they grew & built their craft up, there is a solid progression in their career. Most of these bands continued to have sucess not changing there sound at all. That would also be why there is a movment called the post grunde. cause there were alot of grunge bands that came out after the so called grunge movment had died. But it never did die just like hair metal never died just mainstream media just desided to look the other way. most of those bands made millions when grunge was supose to be dead. Silver chair was a much better band when they wernt trying to be artsy.
