  • Happy days i say - least you got a proper bobby, not the blue band brigade!

  • Burnside you Sssssssssssccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggggggggg

  • Probably the most recognisable piece of music with a 7/4 time signature.

  • now i feel old, i remeber when teh bill finally ended for the "first" time, was like wow i out lived the Bill, then they brough it back and if memory serves the modern Bill no longer running

  • My god they got two left feet LOL

  • this has a ''proper'' 80's twist to it! am i right?

  • This theme tune was scrapped becasue they decided it didnt really go with the plodding feet, the second one however suited alot better, i preffared this theme however

  • ahhh back when the Bill was actually good.

  • whats the time signiture?

  • @wendywolfman The main time signature is 7/4,, while the last bar before and including the middle eight is 4/4.

  • Haha, my latest video uses the Bill feet, with the music of a London punk...

  • Ah the dick walking of the police

  • 0:41 Regional commercial cue mark FTW.

  • I remember this because my dad liked The Bill- watched it a lot on UKTV Gold or whatever it was.

  • What if the feet/legs just started disco dancing at 0:31?

  • My favourite bit of this theme is at 0:31 to 0:46, I would like as my ringtone, good bit of theme.

  • RIP DI Roy Galloway: 1984 - 1987 (Series 1-3 FTW)

  • I recall watching this as a kid, back when it was a decent show.

  • i was born in 86 but this is fantastic! so simple yet so powerful, good old days eh :)

  • 3 people have no feet.

  • I remember Benny Hill did an awesome parody of this once ; I haven't seen it in years, though.

  • the bass is fresh!

  • The original theme is still the best, it must be me getting old, sigh.

  • @Feisty1967 I agree I didnt know why they just kept the original, i mean corrie has for all these years lol

  • 0:30-0:46...pretty much sums up 1984

  • The original and still the best theme music to the Bill! They tweaked and fiddled around with it and made it sound rather pathetic.

  • Sad to admit I have the 7" single of this somewhere.

  • Do you think it's a coincidence that this song sounds like it's by "The Police" as in Stings old band? Or does no one else hear it?

  • corrrrrrrrrrrr pc vicki hagen can come and usde her handcuffs on me anytime lol

  • To the people who posted comments on the 2009 (to present) Bill Theme Tune stating that it is "the best ever theme" WRONG! This version is the original and BEST!

  • This is a badass tune.

  • Comment removed

  • This is so 80's...but i love it!

  • When the final episode airs, they HAVE to end it with the feet walking away.

  • @97channel I was thinking the exact same thing! I also think they need to use this music as well

  • @cazm94 in my opinion, that would be a fab tribute to mark the last ever episode.

  • A good advert for Doc Marten shoes LOL!

  • Its a good advert for Doc Marten shoes LOL!

  • Benny Hill did a good spoof of this ending with a dance I always remember the dog poo on the pavement LOL!

  • I think tv anoucer shud dropped all together unless they're advertiseing the show

  • is it mee, or did the walk really slow lol and its sound like arcade music lol.

  • watch those feet sonny boy x

  • the bill ends for good soon

  • Always used to bug me that they didn't walk in time :S

  • I used to love the feet when i was little i'd always be like "THE BILL :)'

  • Man I miss the feet. The theme reflects the new Bill which is race-y and not the "beat cop" show it used to be. I stopped liking it soon after the feet went. Bring back the feet!

This is how credits should be. Notice how they're not talked over, sped through or squished!

  • this is soooo cool THE BILLS FAMIOUS FEET!!!!

  • Thanks for posting! I was trying to remember how the original "The Bill" theme sounded before they "updated" it with the sing-song synthesiser sound.

  • Look at how great this was and i bet the drama was excellent in those days and it wasnt like the stupid one thats in it now. The theme sounds and looks like the bill which is also great about this one

  • This music sounds quite similar to the 1988 theme only the sound is a little bit different but the tune is the same.

  • Not a shouty announcer fucknuckle to be heard.... why can't it be like that now, even when the credits only last 30 seconds?

Continuity announcers should have their privates toasted with a blowtorch until they quit their job, or agree to shut the hell up!

  • this makes me feel cosey and happy i remember when it was sort of like this in the early 90s

  • @paperandtea Me too. Are you 25-30 by any chance? This was when life was stress-free for me. I am 26 now.

  • This was an iconic shot for the closing credits.

  • loving the virtuoso keyboard solo, haha!

  • ther a new look coming 24 jurly

  • how sloooow was this

  • time for bed! i hate hearing that music at the end and you have to wait till next week

  • Loved the original series. My parents wouldn't let me watch it because it was after 9pm! Can you imagine a modern telly programme doing a 90 second closing title? Thanks for uploading.

  • Gone are the days when you could hear the theme tune and see the credits in full, without hearing the "coming up next"!! < which is just incredibly annoying....

    Haha.

  • @Katabai7 Let's face it. TV channels these days are more interested in telling you what is coming up than allowing you to watch what is actually on now. Most of them are more interested in showing you adverts than actual shows anyway.

As a result, my TV is more often used to play off air content (DVD, VHS, digital video e.g. YouTube).

  • Don't forget June and Jim were paired together initially ;). I doubt it is them anyway. It wouldn't seem right. The opening intro has two different people - could be them.

I prefer the 90's version as I grew up with that (I was born in 1989). The 1989 one, although similar, is still slightly different.

  • The feet!

  • ooo my god a remember this waw

  • Classic!

  • Ahh omg I remember this! Epic TBH xD

  • the feet was the sign for bed!!

  • classic. truly classic.

  • The best version. I can still remember John salthouse in it, which was in the first series. Andy pask used to be in landscape, and this has some of the feel of the einstein a go-go period , which was three years earlier. I like the speed-sequenced end, which sounds like a cock up on the synclavier or fairlight page R

  • The woman's feet are June's and the guy's feet are Tony's

  • maybe the man's feet were reg's

    reg came earlier than tony

  • Awesome. Love the bit at beginning 0.32. The Bill used to be worth watching, now its a pile of donkey balls, too many little pretty little blondes, a bit like the real police I suppose. What ever happened to hardened womaniser cops who drank too much and swore?

  • Just as CLASSIC!

  • You can never beat original versions. This theme is one of them! And by god does it take me back to my childhood! Themes like this one always stay in the back of your mind! A piece of genius!

  • This was the best version of the theme music........hard as nails....serious......no mucking around........the modern version dosent do it for me......its like a jazz version.........a bit Micheal Mouse.

  • the modern version? when was the last time you heard the modern version? cause there aint no jazz in it. i love the modern one, more exciting and adrenaline inducing. this one rocks though

  • It's wierd without the main melody... Awesome just the same.

  • At some points they seem to be stepping in time to the song...

And I would never have guessed from the middle 8 that this was The Bill.

  • this is from the days when people had larger attention spans.

  • And TV Execs didn't think we were too stupid to listen to a theme that lasted over 50 seconds!

  • That little break down bit at 0:32 has to be the coolest thing Ive ever heard.

They should bring this theme back.

  • They should. But the problem is that theyre so bothered with getting to the money making Adverts that it would be over after 20 seconds

  • Yeah, it's a great moment to mosh to!

    :)

  • Woah, the middle 8 sounds like Visage or something... This should have been extended into 3 or so minutes and released as a single xD

  • the bit you cant see is just as they get out of shot, they skip off doing the morcambe and wise dance. and yes, i too miss the squiggly little box, it was far better than how they do it now, and draw all over the damn screen telling you that most haunted starts in 6 months or some other load of crap. STOP DRAWING AND WRITING ON THE SCREEN YOU DIGITAL BASTADS WE ARE TRYING TO WATCH THE SHOW.

  • GREAT no voice over spoiling it!

  • From the days when it not only had a decent version of the tune, but was actually worth watching ! Unlike the unbelievable, over the top, glorified soap it is today...

  • Is it sad that the thing I love most about this video is not the great tune or the memorable image but the little black and white squiggle box in the corner that told you when a program was about to end? Sadly missed since the onset of digital! RIP little black and white squiggle box!

  • hahahaha. The squiggle box was great.

  • These were real police officers feet and the female is my mum... they were asked to walk really slowly on a freezing day along this road.....

  • I think that the old WPC uniform was alot better, made you feel more feminine.Todays uniform is about layering.

  • I love the song; it's a really good one!

  • wow, what a funky song.

  • What year did this type of intro (i.e. the walking police officers) end? I can remember seeing them once one year, but haven't seen it ever since.

  • The plodding feet walking towards the camera for the opening credits were removed after the first year of the show, but the feet walking away from the camera soldiered on until 1997.

  • sake minute and a half !!!

  • The feet look slightly different than the versions in later series. The policewoman has wonky ankles and the policeman has spindly legs. The woman's left foot nearly bends sideways right at the start. Clearly the producers decided to reshoot this for the later series.

  • They days before squashing of credits and the annoying 'Coming up next'

  • i hate credit-squeezing too! charlie brooker (TV critic) once said something to the effect of: imagine you worked in TV and told all your family and friends that your name would be in a show's end credits, and then the credits were squashed so much that they couldn't read your name! (can't remember the exact quote but it was words to that effect)

  • Amen to that.

  • @remootcom I so much agree! You could actually read the end credits in those days instead of the side panel that comes up these days with un-readable credits.

  • @remootcom Totally agree. They have not enough content for too many channels and they think they are wasting precious time with decent credits.

  • That was a bloke in those stockings.I think it was Sgt Crier.

  • i wonder how many times they tripped up lol

  • simple but memorable :)

  • This was great, god reember when they jazzed it up slightly later on in the 80s. Great clip.

  • i wasn't even born then but i love the theme tune all the same

  • actually I wanna download this theme tune! O_o tell me I'm not the only one!!

  • You're not the only one :D

  • I used to have all the versions long and short of the themes on my PC(except the newer naff versions) can't remember the site i got them from gutted!!

  • I can;t believe I thourgh that version was never used!

  • I could just listen to this and the old Casualty theme tune back to back for hours on end... god I'm sad xD

  • If you are then so am I. TV felt different then, there was something less invasive about it which made it more agreeable in my opinion.

  • @angelicMisha Your not! I do too!

  • OMG, I wasn't even born when this was aired but I;m loving it all the same! The plodding of the feet is quite mesmerising actually, I wonder how many takes it took to get them plodding at the same time? :P

Plus I love the retro 80's musical bit at 0:33 and 1:16...random but loving it!

  • It'll be great to see this tune make a return.

  • This from "A Friend In Need".

  • Jeez haven't seen this version for sooo long, still the best I think (music and images). What a great idea for credits, "plod" feet walking, genius!

  • Anyone remember that hale and pace where its the guy in the tights and the woman in the trousers lol:P

  • Wow, I remember this!

They kept the plodding feet for several series if I remember, just updated the music and credit roll.

  • Notice in the credits: "Woman in Street - Feruca Syal". A few years and a name change later, she became comedy actress Meera Syal (Granny in the Kumars), and this appearance in the Bill is her first ever TV appearance!

  • Where is the thames logo at the end???!!!

  • great version of the theme. Could you upload all the extended versions please? Back when the bill was great! Does anyone know where i can download the themes please?

  • I want to see the titles for 1991.

  • Do ANY police actually walk like that?

  • Reply to jboi2002: Yes the London Met actully used to walk like that, but it was scrapped for some reason.

  • What a strange way of walking!

  • where they walkin to hmmm

  • legendary! lol

  • Those were the days! Class tune!

  • jesus christ listen to the bass on that

  • Ahh The good old days from The Bill!!

  • lol used 2 love the feet heh

  • Me too!

  • Me three, but I'm kinda too young to properly remember them.

  • brilliant clip, i thought the thames would have been at the end

  • they were, I suspect he's edited them off! Theyr'e not on his front titles video either, whereas they are on tinyvi's version!
