  • I agree about the "Marshall Snobs". They boost the price of marshalls & make the lesser known/& better models cheaper. It's like saying..."I'm to sexy for this ____"

  • how much gain does this amp provide?

  • Perfect ton.

  • Ive got this amp, it's broken, should I fix it, or get a bugera 333xl?

  • I imagine it would depend on what's wrong with it. Peavey's are generally pretty inexpensive. I've heard the Bugera's are cheaply made - you may just be buying into a possible whole new set of problems down the road.

To me, the Peavey gives tons of tone for the money. That amp covers a lot of ground! I don't know whether the Bugera does this or not...

  • hey man, sup it's me spaterman (diff account). I've got both now! I liek this amp better haha! I'm gonna sell the Bugerra, but luckily a few days after i bought the bugerra the RRP of that amp went up by $500!!!

  • Wanted to add:

R11 & C62 are located near the LOW tone pot. Only have to remove the chassis ( 4 screws) locate the jumper and cut. Put the chassis back in and fire her up.

Option: Add a toggle switch to the jumper's cut leads. This would allow you to have a "stock" mode and "enhanced EQ" mode selection.

FYI-2: Reference the board layout diagram, at the bottom section of the schematic.

If need a schematic, Peavey will email the schematic for free.

    Rock on.

  • I have a question seeing as you seem to know your shit! I have a Peavey Triumph 60 and I really want to Mod the CR1 and CR2 diode with a jumper. All I've been hearing is that this mod drastically makes a difference, and their is no more 'die-out'. I emailed peavey and they sent me the schematic of it, I then took off the top cover which shows I guess the bottom side (weird) of the circut board where they did all of the soldering. My question for you is where do I actualy do the soldering??????

  • You have to remove the preamp board (from the chassis)to see CR1 and CR2 (component side reference designators) and then you can locate the solder points on the solder side.

CR1/2 are located near the V2 preamp tube. Once you locate CR1/2 and identify the solder side contact points of the diodes, you will see where to solder the jumper(s). It can be done with one jumper (if can read circuits and locate the 2 points required) or 2 jumpers, one across each diode. Both work equally well.

  • I did it on the top. Soldered a 9 gauge guitar string over the diodes. Is this bad?

  • Never tried guitar string, Key is that the solder must make good contact to the wire/jumper and component pad. IF does, should be ok.

  • so wats the diff meant to be?

  • The difference with both mods - stops premature note/sustain cutoff (diode mod), opens up full EQ for the crunch & ultra channels (tone mod). Optional toggle on Tone mod allows stock crunch/ultra tone and full eq tone - switchable.

FWIW: After months playing the amp with both mods, I decided I did not want the stock sound and did not add the tone toggle switch.

  • well I have the PAG 60 model, it seems to be different than everybodys. It's already got a separate eq for clean and for the distorion

  • That premature cut of is the worst circuit ever! I had a great day when I found out how to kill that. I use my triumphs HARD and they rock, allthough I have killed 2....

You can get them for a 100$ because the marshall generation dont want to buy them, good for me!

  • FYI:

Tone Mod for Triumph: Remove the thick mode EQ circuit. We know, right now it's muddy, and bass & mid pots do nothing. Not anymore.

Procedure: Simple. Cut the jumper located in-between R11 and C62. Now the EQ and tone of the clean is now the same for the crunch and ultra. All tones pots work on all channels. No more mud. Its a totally different sounding and performing amp now. Speaker is a Avatar's Hellatone.

Thought I'd share for those interested,

  • Nice! I just got a Triumph 120 delivered today for $200 shipped. Can't believe the bang for the buck with these amps. Mind sharing your amp settings for this clip?

  • I owned one of these, it was a cool little amp. I didn't care for the ultra gain boost, but the other one was cool. Later on they came out with an amp called the Bravo I liked a bit more.

  • These are great amps Ive got one . There is a superb mod that Im getting done . Remove the V1 and V3 resistors ( that give it the 80s gate tail off ) and put in a celestion vintage speaker . I played one it was brill .sustains forever without the shitty tailoff You can find the mod and the circuit easily on the web

  • What is tailoff!?

  • @sdenny Hi friend...if you don't mind and if you have it can you give me the schematic of the triumph, with few word of explenation about remove gate tail off? Thanks

  • Laugh! Thanks for watching. We're all our own worst critics I guess. This video (as are most of my little 'demo' videos) is probably about 20% of the video actually shot - the rest of it is blah. I agree though, the amp is killin - I love the rock tone out of this thing!!

  • what kind of tele is that? i like the reverse control with the volume knob near the strings

  • It's a mexican standard tele, your run of the mill Guitar Center $300 job. I had a Callahan (sp?) bridge put on it, as well as having Kinman pickups installed in it. My favorite guitar.

  • i myself have a mexican standard tele. its sunburst, but i put a new seymour duncan little '59 pickup in it.

  • exellent job dude..love the tone, is that straight through the peavey? i need to get rid of my marshall if this is the case.

  • That's that telecaster right into the amp. It's pretty low in the video volume-wise. I actually created this video because someone was interested in buying this amp... but after I made this and published it, I decided to keep it. :) This amp is capable of shimmery cleans all the way up to face-ripping gain. The second half is the crunch channel with the extra gain kicked in - my favorite setting on the amp. They're CHEAP too!!

  • yeah! i can hear why you kept it, the marshall i have cant really deliver a tone like that on it's own, i have to use my effects to get close to a nice tone like that, i think i may be looking for a peavey now.

  • I'm a big fan of the Rockmaster preamp that Peavey made in the 90s. Very underrated, presumably because of the brand name. It sounds phenomenal, and that was the reason I bought this amp - it's basically a Rockmaster (without 5 FX loops) with a 2x6L6 power amp. Funny, it sounds best through that Peavey speaker too! I got this amp for $200 from a Music Go Round in Wisconsin somewhere.

  • thats a great price for that amp! here in scotland u.k, it's hard to pick up a decent amp for that kind of money, maybe i should move to wisconsin..by the way, you play very well also.

  • nice job:)

  • nice chops as always
