Ahmad was no joke on the mic EVER!! His label pushed for that Back In The Day song to be his single. Dude was an amazing lyricist. Saafir has always been a favorite of mine, but this was not one of his crowing moments. Ras is ALWAYS dope. This song will always be a classic to me. When it came out, alot of people were sitting there scratching their heads. Music like this needs to come back.

Sometimes I think it's fun to imagine what it would be like if this type of song blew up and made stars of these artists. Imagine if Soul on Ice went multi-platinum (not that it was an especially great album musically, but conceptually/topically), the Juggaknots were as big a the Diplomats, Nas didn't have to make "Hate me now" and no one would ever dream of giving Master P, Puffy or Gucci Mane a mic... It eventually gets frustrating, but it's fun to dream sometimes.

Showing that west coast emcees could bring however.
