Perhaps she didn't have the EC's? Such ivy schools look at the all around student, not just the stats. I know this, simply because I got into my first choice school with VERY low stats (For the school, at least). However, they emailed me later, saying that they were very, very impressed with my EC's, and they were so different and unique that typical "Class council, etc". EC's show if you can balance work, and school-maybe she didn't have that. EC's CAN get you in, and I'm an example of that:)

god damn... I'm a relatively good student but not near these types of people and i'm glad, i'm not.. my friend has been offered to apply to a csu for a full ride and he might still turn it down for a U.C.... honestly besides working your ass off in book work, you better understand the world better and be grateful for any oppurtunities offered for you especially when they are worth 10's of thousands of dollars.

Perhaps she didn't have the EC's? Such ivy schools look at the all around student, not just the stats. I know this, simply because I got into my first choice school with VERY low stats (For the school, at least). However, they emailed me later, saying that they were very, very impressed with my EC's, and they were so different and unique that typical "Class council, etc". EC's show if you can balance work, and school-maybe she didn't have that. EC's CAN get you in, and I'm an example of that:)

Its 2010 articles wrote "Princeton sociologist Thomas Espenshade, who reviewed data from 10 elite colleges, writes in “No Longer Separate, Not Yet Equal’’ that Asian applicants typically need an extra 140 points to compete with white students."

one of the problems that asians who do very well in school is that outside of school in the real world, they perform average, they're to afraid to take risk and flourish like they should.
going to top colleges certainly helps with getting jobs, but companies in my opinion dont care too too much about those things, they just look if your a person that can get the job done.also, you can get the same education from a state university to any other top colleges out there.

Counting the people that got in because of:
- Legacy
- Athletics
- Went to feeder schools such as Andover, & Exeter sometimes costing over 40k a year
- Conections + money
Acceptance rates to these schools are lower than the published % rates.
Every year that passes competition/applications increase which makes it harder to get in the next year. Many Harvard students who got in 30 years ago wouldn't be able to get in today.
In 1869 U could get in to Harvard as long as u passed their ent. exam

@luxBATTLE, i think that this is a bit harsh.when one has decided on a "top school",his/her first choice,getting a rejection letter really does feel like the end of the world. Im starting my freshman year in 2 weeks. My top choice was Stanford,and I was rejected. It hurt like hell. It still hurts a bit to this day. UCLA accepted me,however, and I am proud to be a Trojan in a little while, but I know that I most likely would not have chosen to attend the school had I gotten into Stanford.
