Peckinpah's films are an immature pile of steaming horseshit for teenage boys to masturbate to. In how many more scenes is the misogynist Peckinpah going to get a pathetic cheap thrill by having a scene where a woman has her blouse ripped off her? Utter wank. Bet he's one of Tarentino's "classic faves".
guy on the end-civil war uniforms? man u need a history visual lesson!...however i enjoy your conversation on sam..i would even like to help you deconstruct his films further.
The guys in the video don't seem to understand a lot of stuff in Straw Dogs. Banned because of its controversial depiction of English people? No.Rough town? No. Cockney? Definitely not. Hoffman doesn't know how to respond to the rape? How about he doesn't know about the rape? Really unbelievable. "favourite" Peckinpah film eh? Please rewatch it & maybe attempt to attain a basic grasp of British culture/history.
Your right, actually I think Ride the High Country is Pechinpah's best movie. Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott go together like Anthony Mann and James Stewart.
Peckinpah is probibly one of the greatest directors of all time, considering that in his life time nearly all his films failed and he was blacklisted.
'Bring me the Head...' contains some of the worst acting in film history - it's shite. The Wild Bunch is his masterpiece, I think. The rest of his work is deeply flawed.
lol.....ya ..lets see ? pat garrett and billy the kid...went over budget and was radically cut before distribution..when it was finally released in the late 90's uncut it was hailed as aclassic by critics.....i wont even get into it with major dundee and the ballad of cable hogue true klassics understood now...armstong, jones, oates, christopherson, heston, holden, borgnine, robarbs, the actors that hung with him ? sure he was a coke addict and a drunk ? so ? all the best are...i am lol
straw dogs was not banned in the uk for its controversial depiction of english people,as this guy says, but because of the double rape of susan george where she appears to be enjoying it(at least the first time). thanfully, the bbfc's more ludricous censorship decisions (this being one)are now a dim and distant memory.
I have to say Straw Dogs fcked up my head for a long time afterward. I couldn't shake the creepiness of it... and that crazy layer of that assault scene. Peckinpah was good at keeping you hip to backstory and from the beginning you could feel the sort of weird, attraction and romantic and violent past the wife had with the lead guy who commits the assault. Ugh - it was all just sick to me. Sorry guys.
Good work fellas. Enjoyed your chat about Straw Dogs which is my all time fav movie. I live in the pub of Straw Dogs in St Buryan (it was never a pub, just made up as a pub in the film), so feel close to the spirit of the movie and very interested in Peckinpah's 'vision' when he came here in 71. A lot of people focus on the violence in the movie, but for me it was the beauty in-between and the music of Jerry Fielding. Awesome. Thanks for the clip.

The WILD BUNCH was his best film. Next was CROSS OF IRON and then THE GETAWAY.

RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY one of Peckinpah's worst? You are sorely mistaken guy-in-the-middle (can't remember his name). Shame on you!

your shite, Alfredo Garcia is probably Pechinpah's most existentialist movie; The Wild Bunch is overrated.
filmfanman65 3 years ago 2
@filmfanman65 what exactly is overrated about it?

Distant memory? Don't think so. BBFC still fuck things up fairly often. Three words: Lethal Weapon Two.

I said all of that to say - I'm not one for strict censorship - but I could kind of see why that was censored years old in the Britain.

Well, they definitely chose well; one of the most important directors of all-time.

Whats with not mentioning Pat Garret & Billy the kid at all.
