@hotgypsylips if you take a listen to the part 2 of this you'll hear that it does work well with the other camera I tried (and with a Zi8 as well) - you just need a camera which has manually adjustable mic volume :-)
@iBradFilms sweet - if I stumble onto some $ I might pick one up :-) I do now have access to a nice HD camera with adjustable levels, and the mic sounds pretty good with it.
The hiss is caused by your AGC cause you can hear when you talk the hiss is less. Try get a mono splitter and try to do a agc hack which they use on 550d, to put a continues sound on one channel and record on the other.
Why is it so cheap? I mean It's not the greatist mic there is, but I've never seen one for $10....If I got one of these, I would get it for a Zi8, would it work with the camera?
I have seen this Bolun wireless mic and have been interested for a while, I saw your video and the backround hiss did put me off somewhat
However, I use the Kodak ZI8 and I discovered today after watching your video, that my camera does have a mic sensitivity meter, and it adjusted the volume of my wired mic perfectly, will it work well on a low setting on this Bolun mic without much hiss?
I think the signal coming out of the receiver is louder than a dynamic mic - my camera is able to handle dynamic mics no problem. If there are settings you can adjust manually then it'd be more likely to work.
If I buy a Kodak Zi8 (and I was thinking about getting one) I'll try it out and let you know.
@LittleLeeHere I finally got a Zi8 and am pleased to report that the mic does work well with it, without hiss - although the connection between the mic and the camera was a little dodgy. It works if I either slightly pull out the mic jack or use a stereo headphone splitter and just plug the mic into one side of that. (I got a headphone splitter from the same store for under $2, I think)
I bought 2 of these, thinking I could use one each on the left and right channels. Suntek sent me 2 on the same channel, so this isn't an option. However, I gotta say I'm pleased with the performance of the mic. Range seems to be adequate, dropouts don't seem to be a problem and the sound quality is a nice upgrade to the on board mic. I plugged in a Radio Shack Lapel mic and got even better results. For $10, its worth it to just try it out.
@mdboatbum cool! I've seen some very similar models elsewhere with a channel switch which would presumably allow 2 to be used simultaneously - but they were more expensive (and without free shipping to NZ). What kind of camera are you using?
@richkid639 my laptop didn't like it when I plugged it in. Also, had to use the 6.35 -> 3.5mm adapter off my shotgun mic. Worked OK with a voice recorder though.
For $10 it is very good, but if you pay 100 dollars more you will get a great mic from Azden or Audio-Technica :-D

A juicedlink pre-amp would get rid of that hiss.

I find 10-20 fee r no more, and I find placing a splitter on the 3/8 plug will get me left and right sound, over the mono. I say its alright,
