  • I enjoyed this clip. Classic kit with a very good display of jazz & rock playing. Bravo! I don't play professionally but I've been at it for over 30 years. I have some clips on here you might get a kick out of. My tribute to Buddy Rich. Anyway, it would be great to see a longer clip of your playing. I'm always learning from other drummers who know how to play.

  • Why even make these type of trashy videos ...simply horrible. No regard to sound quality.

  • @747jpdrummer why do you even care for the audio when you can't play drums anyway?

  • @petecatz you're right, anyone who tries to argue that is just a complete idiot

  • I think Jimmy Page once said the he wanted the drums to breathe and be open to get the full sound out of them when they were recording their albums. Recording ina shoebox the has soundproofing does hinder the natural sound of the drums. Same with guitar amps which is why Bonhams' drums sound so full and why Pages' marshalls have a full sound as well thanks to the use of distant miking in he studio, I mean listen to When the Levee Breaks for example.

  • I've been playing for almost 25 years and just this year started playing with NO DAMPENING whatsoever, I wonder why it took me so long! tuning the kit for maximum openness nowadays and loving it!

  • @petecatz yep. most people dont understand rums. it to them is simpy something to bang. and damping means you can "bang".

if u dont dampen them, which is the BEST WAY TO LEARN, ten u hear each drums resonance in the room u r in (except in a pro studio where u have to set up the resonance SYNTHETICALLY) and when u get used to the resonance of particular halls/rooms then in a sense THAT is the instrument, those tones and ringing and musical sounds that resonate around the hall!

  • @MrFN2

look, most drummers ARNT drummers, and HAD to use sound proofing and dampoing to hide the hideousness of their crap.

but DONT dampen, LEARN that each drum has a unique charachter and NOTE! yes A NOTE. if your kit is say 4 piece, then its a four key piano (so to speak,) 6 piece then, and so on.... not to be hidden but to be heard the way it is meant to be heard. many metal drummers were bad, and had to dampen their kits, they didnt know how to tune them.

  • cozy powell set up

  • I get it - LUDWIG Chicago - Have some older gear I play as well. Great Tone in the video good drumming too. Salute*

  • Wonderfull drumm...

  • @petecatz

you play well and don't deserve his crap.

  • @GrooveDrummin it's kinda funny how drummers talk shit to each other all the time......I mean I've always noticed that and I guess it's because it's in our nature to be that way....(but it's sad in my opinion) because I've never been that way and now I find myself doing the same thing too but only in self-defence. I've been to a few drum clinics in the past and noticed the animosaty in drummers faces that blew my mind away LOL! Guitar players don't do that kinda shit why do we do that? It's sad.

  • @petecatz

I know what you mean...seems to be like a sport. I find that if I share a little drumming advice to whoever is giving me a cold shoulder that it begins to "soften" them up a bit. I get "challenged" a lot by other drummers when visiting practice halls and sometimes it pisses me off because I'm there just for a good time. I will most definitely stay humble around these guys so as not to stir shit. Guitar players are a different bunch for sure....

  • Another no-talent disseminating his bile on the Tube.

Drumming is an ART not a template for unmusical neanderthals.

  • @Easleytee

you know nothing about drumming...let's see you do better

  • @petecatz dude the drums are awesome all u need is some sound proofing and even with a cam recording it would sound 10 times better. with mics and a nice mix even better. but soundproofing goes aLLLLLOng way my friend

  • The Drums are real nice, but the sound from the Vid sucks, sry :(

  • I am surpirsed you are not in a Black Sabbath Tribute band with that beautiful kit!! My dream kit is a Gretsch Champagne Glitter 4 piece 18" x 26" bass drum kit. I always wanted to have one of those oversized bass drums kit, but couldn't afford it because every time I try to save, some life event happens and the money goes away and not to Gretsch. If Ludwig makes a kit like this, then hell yeah, I would love to have it in a Silver Sparkle finish wrap. I'll keep on wishing and dreaming!Enjoy!

  • good stuff man,i`d say your neighbours love ya!

  • nice drums, decent drummer, shitty sound, cheers!

  • I saw a video of bonzo playing on jasons miniture kit and with out even looking I knew who it was. I was not dogin on your kit.(nice kit mate) I was not sure what year your kit was I am aware stainless steel were no longer made in 1980.I thought you had great chops and Sorry if I offended you.I posted cause I saw a nice kit.

  • Beautiful set and good playing, the mics are a little loud but so what its your talent were watching..... everybody's a sound engineer

  • Nice set, great sound for a rock band. I remember that sound from when I was a kid, listening to Led Zepplin. Part of the overwhelmingness comes from the room, too, I bet.

  • SO LOUD! But that's Ludwig bass shells for yeah, huh?

  • I love your set! Just in reference to some other comments, there a many excellent sets made by different manufacturers. Different strokes for different folks! I read one of the reasons John Bonham played such large vistalite sets and large symbols was for volume and projection. It sounds great dude.

  • Nice set! I think Carl Palmer used that kit on a few tours as well.

  • nice set dude...would love to play on one of those.

  • WoW - I LIKE the really live sound!!! However, to play with a group, the kit is a little to Live. I play with minimal muffle but it must be used in a live setting. When I play in my group, which is every week, I stuff a pillow in the bass drum and use "dead ringers" on the toms. The top and floor tom shells are left open and my snare has as little muffle as I can. I do like your skill and sound.......

  • I'm shure that kit sounds great standing it front of it.

  • Nice!

  • Nice Kit, love the sizes. Nice chops too!

  • I must disagree with the "too loud" comment. These are in a corner, then posted on youtube....of course there will be sound degradation.

This is one bad ass set and in the right settings will give me wood...lol! And the gentleman playing has a good mimic of Mr J. Bonham...thanks

  • Ok, you idiots that say "this kit is too loud" need to realize these simple facts. For 1) There are no mics on the kit, so it's an unmixed natural "room sound". you are hearing a small camera mic in a loud situatuion, hense the moderate distortion. 2) Look at the room: Small practice space with no muffling (looks like painted drywall and grey painted floor). Theres nothing too muffle the sound. 3) These are big open sounding drums...the bass drums are at least 24". So now you have the facts.

  • fool in the rain? great kit. and if you'll notice there are no mics mounted. i don't even see a boom. so this loudness controversy has gotta stop.

  • I love Ludwig drums...you can play any style with them...from smooth soft jazz, to blues, to heavy metal...I love my Ludwig kit, always stays in great condition. I understand that the drums don't "overpower themselves" but most cameras can't take that level of volume...great kit man...absolutely awsome. Ludwig is the best!

  • Dear Gitchigoomi, the drums aren't too loud.

The mic just needs a -10db pad, and needs to be closer to the kit to not so much record "the room".

  • These drums are too loud. They actually overpower themselves in that you can't hear any real tone at all. I wouldn't use them. Sorry. No offense.

  • @gitchigoomi its not the drums, drums can never be too loud! ;-)

    its probably the mics

  • @gitchigoomi - that's because of the sensitive mic on the camera you donkey xD

  • @gitchigoomi, ever think that the recording isnt the most flattering?

  • @gitchigoomi - It's the camera mic you fool.

  • @gitchigoomi

all drums are loud man thats not the drums its the crappy microphone on the camera.

  • @gitchigoomi lol they overpower themselves, good one, never heard that one before. :P

what you are hearing is simply his video camera distorting because drums are loud. all drums are loud.

  • @gitchigoomi I think that's the microphone in the camera making the bad sound not the kit.

  • @gitchigoomi its the camera that that doesnt pick up the sound well

  • @ThePetercriss3 I think it's more the acoustics of the room in which the drums were recorded.

  • @dougalmac54 that could be it too

  • i got a set a 1973 stainless steel ludwigs too they are LOUD...

  • the basses look great

  • Beautiful Kit!

  • nice job, sounded great!!!

  • great job dude, really awesome!

  • I'm a guitar player from the 70's. I've played in many pro-bands. I've noticed that most, if not all the great drummers from the 60's,70's& 80's (especially the ones I played with) played Ludwig.

    Studio or Live..it was Ludwig.(Maple shells 12ply)

Now it's DW. I guess when "SELMA"music took over Ludwig in the early 80's things went downhill for ludwig at that point. That's a shame and I'm sure there are drummers out there that would love a like new condition set of vintage LUDWIGS (Big Lugs).

  • @petecatz I agree. Can't really tell the tone .From the video sound quality . But, I had a similar kit but a natural maple anniversary edition kit ..Sounded balls to the walls .I loved it . But today i own a pearl and tama mixed kit .But still have my supersonic .. BONHAM FOR EVER .Buddy. .

  • Awesome kit very nice.

  • Oldschool! And beautifull color

  • yes, but he played them both, ludwig and slingerland

  • He played both I believe.

  • nice set very nice

  • Great drumming, and nice kit. Are those some Dream cymbals I see?

  • Great drumset

  • nice kit man!, next buy some mics, cos that would sound insane... i would love to hear the deep bass tones... i bet it sounds lush.

  • nice dude, the Bonham shuffle

  • very nice kit i liked the the ghost notes on the snare great technique

  • I am sooo jealous of your drums wow nice!!

  • i still have the first kit i bought and its a D2! i know they suck but i cant decide what set i should get. I dont know if i will like that specific set then i wasted money. Will i Ludwig be a good set? or a pearl export? or tama?

  • Ludwig All The way,

  • Personally I'm a Tama kid mainly from Dave Lombardo's influences and Lars Ulrichs, but I hear that Ludwig are an awesome make aswell.

They don't sound that bad, But I'm not much if a Jazz drummer so I don't think I would play them.

(I'm a self taught drummer so don't be cocky if I sound really silly in this Comment.)

  • your set is killer, but as far as the worlds best drums ill give it to dw.

  • shitty sound quality man. but cazy drumming

  • Nice drums 5/5

  • My first real kit was the Ludwig Quadra Plus in the classic white finish, and the blue, and olive badge! I loved those drums! Very nice playing as well ! I,m currently in the market for the 6x14 supra phonic chrome snare that I had with that kit ! I hear it's kind of a rare bird these days, but any suggestions would be appreciated ! Thanks again, fine job!

  • Thay's one awesome set!

  • is that the blue/olive badge chrome o wood from the 70s-80s ?

with the rivetts down the shell ?

if it is i got one hear in Australia ,beautifull kit and sound ,what is the kick size ?

  • try Vater, or my new fave, Regal Tip.

    nice kit, Ludwig Rules!

  • yeah vater's are the best!!!!!

  • hey nice kit!

    nice playing to!

where did u get the kit?

  • Wow...way cool. What kind of snare was that? What skins were you using? Loved that sound.

  • SICK MAN!! but how the hell do you mount both toms up there? can you do it nowmally without having them super high or tilted?

  • Sweet drumming man, love the set! What size bass drums are those?

  • Maybe you can help with some info. I was choosing between a Ludwig kit made in china or a Gretsch kit made in china, I will never be able to afford the real kits. I think they come out of the same factory? What do you think Pete?

  • Ludwig is not Ludwig any more. Hasn't

been since '83 and nothing compares to the vintage Ludwigs. Only thing still Ludwig is the name, which they bought.

  • hence why the blue olive badge is sacred

  • Awesome kit and great playing as well! You look so relaxed while playing too!

    Good on ya'.

  • Sorry to contradict but Ludwig now makes drums in China just like Pearl :( I'm sure they still make some in USA but try finding a new set in store. Much of current inventory is low end Sh*t made in China! Everyone wants to be cheaper so that's what we get. Let's hope DW doesn't have the same revelation!!! Oh how I wish I could afford DW! lol

  • Awesome kit!!

  • Nice set. ;)

  • Dude, I think that a vid with better audio would do you some justice. I can tell that you've got great chops! -just like to hear them with better sound. Beautiful kit!

  • i agree with your title of the video

  • Ludwigs are my second fave.. but I have to say slingerlands from the 70s or earlier have something special that no drums have anymore. buddy played those too.

  • fuck!!!! it seems an earthquake.... Do you wanna sell this drums? lol...

  • Gorgeous kit, good sounds, play on!!

  • Wow! Awesome set!

  • Those sound really good! Reminds me of my band days in H.S.---What heads do u use?

  • Dude, the drums sound awesome, never let anyone tell you to put any pillows in those kicks, they sound amazing!

  • so drums sound very smooth, have they been sanded on the inside?

  • nice man thats a sharp kit

any kind of drumming like this is almst impossible for me to repeat

some bands you just get it right off the bat ya know?

    but this stuff.. nahh

its good though man good job

  • Its too loud! you got a volume knob on those things???????????

    Kidding.

    Great stuff ,man!

  • Good stuff man and nice kit. What year? I'm going in the garage to practice now!

  • terrific man! uv partly inspired me to keep playing throuhg a difficult period

could you get us another video sometime with a finer sound production? nothing lavish just clearer

that said - wonderful retrograde quality to the sound makes it sound more of an era;) sharp

  • Your drum is so amazing

  • Nice stuff! Dig the FoolInTheRain groove.

  • Is that an Octa-plus?

  • I'd never leave that room. WHAT A KIT! AMAZING!

  • oh wow the stereo version of this sounds WAY better! the snare sounds less distorted!

  • youre impressive overall, but in particular i was fixed on youre left hand work during the rhythms, NICELY DONE

  • Your my new Hero!

  • damn thats how you're supposedly to play a badass beautiful old school set. too bad the camera and sound quality wasnt better to show off that talent man great style

  • what cymbals do u use

  • the older I get, the more I love to hear Charlie Watts go boom-bap.

  • At the end of the URL of the video put: &fmt=18

so puting that at the end of the URL you can see the vid in high quality at sound and image

  • You're an amazing drummer with a crappy camera man, cause I know your snare drum isn't that distorted and bad sounding. Get a good camera so we can really soak it in.

  • Hi Pete Your drums are a different color than John's set. His was like a clear orange. But I am not drum expert.

  • I've heard them. They're monsters. A drummer friend of mine had both chromowood and stainless. (I guess he liked that finish! So do I, actually.)

I have a parallel story in that I bought my main Fibes set in its last days in the 70's--(before they reformed again and went out of business in this century!) Mine are antique copper over fiberglass--also very loud and clean. Good luck to you! Keep posting.

  • Very nice playing! Beautiful set, too. Is that chrome on wood, or stainless steel?
