I am currently in Afghanistan and although it is not my first deployment, it is still hard to be away from home. Just know that we don't do this for the money or because we like the war, we do this so that our families and everyone in the U.S can enjoy their freedom..... Merry Christmas!

  • I just heard this on the radio and i had to find it. Thanks for posting this ashley. It brought tears to my eyes.

  • Dear Santa,

This year I’d like for Christmas; a iPod, a computer, a dog, no wait scrap that,

Get on your sleigh, go to Afghanistan, get our soldiers and bring them home for Christmas, they deserve to be with their family's on Christmas. Post this as your status to show respect for our soldiers who won't be coming home for Christmas.

If you don't repost, I understand, you can't spend 6 seconds of your life to support soldier

  • the 2 dis likes on here are people that don't hav any respect

  • It is strange, I don't usually let things affect me so. The only movie that I can think of that makes me cry is the end of Field of Dreams. This video, my girlfriend showed it to me. I am not sure when I started to cry, but I was full on tears by the end. I have spent 3 Christmas' overseas. This video caught me by suprise, I had always wondered if anyone takes a moment to think about where a soldier is sleeping.

Right now I just want to thank each and every soldier out there fighting and defending our country. You are my hero's, and I wish I could thank each of you personally. I am so proud to be an American and I am so thankful for YOU, our soldiers and fighters.

Our DFac here on FOB Warrior is plastered with posters and banners from back homes with people's names signed on them. Again, thank you.

  • RIP Sgt Grant Wichmann and SFC Jason Fabrizi....Merry Christmas boys we miss you

  • SOLDIERS DON'T CARE ABOUT POLITICS, WHY WON'T ANY OF YOU JUST LEAVE IT ALONE? YOU BICKER YOU FIGHT, YOU SQUABBLE AND SQUEEL LIKE PIGS AT A TROUGH.

IT'S ABOUT YOU! SLEEPING YOUR BED, NOT ABOUT WHATS RIGHT OR WHATS WRONG?

    CAN'T YOU COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

    MERRY FUCKING CHRISTMAS

    - ANOTHER PISSED OFF IRAQ WAR VET

  • @demize12 i can never thank you enough for the service you've done for our country and for all of us. Its because of all of you that we are able to live our lives. I'm 18, i've thought about entering the military, my parents strongly oppose it. But it seems to me, its the most meaningful thing I could do...Please remember there are good people that you've fought for. Thank you so much.

  • Thank you all for your comments. I am a soldier currently serving in Afghanistan. It is hard to be away but this is my 3rd Christmas away from home and it doesn't get easier. But then I look on here and see all of the thankful people and I know, my fighting doesn't go in vein. Thank you all again!

  • Dear God,

All I want is for all the soldiers to come home healthy

  • I thank you for puting the photos and the story together it really brings the reality home. God Bless all the soldiers who give us the freedom to surf the net and sleep at night.

    Semper Fi,

  • That was beautiful. Thank you.

  • Thank you for this beautiful poem and Thank you to all of our troops who put their lives on the line each and everyday so that we may have freedom including my husband who have to be apart from their loved ones during this time of year ... Yet we are only physically apart, my husband still sits in my heart and mind everyday

  • This is so touching especially since I will be seperated from my husband due to this crazy war and all other soldier's seperated from their loved ones during this holiday time. It's hard enough being apart but during the holidays especially Christmas is hard for me. God Bless you for this beautiful poem..... Lord bring them all home safely and soon.

  • i couldn't help when i heard this. it makes me think how much i have gone through life taking my freedom likely. there are so many men and women who don't understand how much these soldiers are doing for us, they put their lives and their freedom n the line for us back home. they ask for nothing except to fight for us. they don't do it for themselves they do it for us. god bless you all. god bless you all

  • yeah i agree with you thhey do alor

  • this is the reason i enlisted

  • it's so beautiful It brought tears to my eyes.

    God Bless All

  • i got chills watching this. the poem is amazing and the vid is fabulous

  • I remember when I first heard this on the radio last Christmas. I cried then as I still do now. This is such a beautiful poem and the pictures represent the American soldiers well. God Bless all those that are still out there fighting. Come home safe.

Thanks for posting. It really means a lot.

  • This brings tears to my eyes no matter how many times i watch it. I had spent last Christmas in Iraq and will be going back this January. God bless all our armed forces.

  • I agree with Parish.

By the way...the President of the United States can only deploy troops for ninety days. Beyond that it is Congress...a heavily Democrat Congress... that keeps the troops there. I am speaking the truth, and am willing to bet you didn't know that. Look it up.

And if you are going to post that garbage on such a heartfelt, beautiful poem as this, you need a head-check. Keep it to yourself! Go bash the government on some ultra-liberal anarchy site. This is not your place.

  • I first heard this song on the way home from my grandmother's house last Christmas Eve, late in the evening. It's a 75 mile drive and i was by myself, no one else on the freeway. I cried so hard I was forced to pull over on the side of the highway and regain my composure. I enlisted in the Army in February.

  • May God bless and protect you. Thank you!

  • The first time I heard it I cried as well, and i still get chills. Thank you so much for your service and all our service men. May God bless them and their friends and family

  • Thank you in advance for your hard work. God Bless you and your bravery.

  • thats an awesome song God bless all

  • What a tribute to our men & women who risk their lives for our freedom....Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to all of them.....come home soon!

  • god bless everyone of our brave men and women who have put their lives on the line for us, no matter what, every day, past and present.

  • I herd this song for the 1st time yesterday on my way to pick up my daughter. I cried throughout the song and then some. I will be adopting a soldier as a gift to my family. Giving means so much more than receiving especially giving to a soldier who gave of freedom. Carol St Martin

  • May The Lord Bless All Our Boys, and Girls in our Wonderful Military... My Son just returned from Iraq... God Bless America...

  • monkeylad44 don't talk shit about bush when he did the right thing by sending us over there. i have been there 2 times already and i am volunteering for another deployment. Those people needed us over there. and were not there for the oil! We are there to free a country that needed it.

  • Pvt Parish I just want to say thank you for your service and if/when you go back God's speed.

    God Bless,

    Ashley Jane

  • @pvtparish - What unit were you in?

  • @pvtparish thankyou for your service and i wish i could of been there 2 but i have a med condition that did not let me in i hope you have a great christmas and newyear thank u again on behalh of me and boyscout troop 60 out of delcity ok

  • @pvtparish THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Media has cast an inaccurate light on this war. If we could go back in time and remove Hitler from power, would we? Better believe we WOULD! There was so much that led to this fight. It was so much more than 9/11 or possible WMD's (even the "possibility" of their existence was a global threat) or a dictator in power. Why didn't we hear all this outcry when we went into Bosnia to prevent genoside? We have even more reason to be over there!

  • I love this song....

This fills me with such calmness... nostalgia

  • If not for Bush and his band of idiots, we'd never

need to be over there in the first place...

I too, thank the soldiers for fighting, I just

wish they had a way of getting back home, there's

just no reason for them to be there.Peace.

    -A 21st century hippie.

  • I thank all the service men who are fighting for our freedom! I can not begin to give you the respect you all deserve! You put your self at risk for people who you've never met... how can you repay that? Well a million thanks and prayers to our soldiers and their families! YOur in our minds and always in our hearts!

  • this sure is sad.

  • i heard this on the radio i really liked it and i think its by mikila marts

  • My son is a solider and has been in Iraq and now is stationed far from home,I pray everyday for all the soliders that give us freedom, security and peace for all of Americans may they return safe to their families. I haven't seen my son in a very long time, and I pray that at some point I will see him again, although with MS I doubt that I will afford to do so and I miss him so especially at Christmas, and of course throught the year. I am so proud that he serves our great country.

  • do you know who sings this song?

  • No I do not. I'm sorry. If you want this song, download it. It is called "A Soldier's Silent Night".

  • @Ashleyj110290 it was first writen by Clement Moore in 1822 called Twas the Night Before Christmas..

then in 1993 Lt Col Bruce lovely rewrote it as The Soldiers Night Before Christmas.

    I hope this helps..

  • @Ashleyj110290 This song was orginally done by Mannheim Steamroller, The Voice Over is from a DJ's Father from 93.3 radio station in Milwaukee Wisconsin
