Thank you. Made me LOL!!!!!! My husband works at one in Connecticut - and this is soo accurate. The other thing I would say is, it is a really fun place and staff have fun! I like the music and I dance in the aisles. I've never had a more fun grocery shopping experience.
WOW!!! Hadn't seen that since I lived in LA 3 years ago!! I just read that TJ's is a comin' to......... TEXAS!!! I live in Dallas and can hardly wait!!!
FYI, this is STILL one of my favorite videos on Youtube!!
@and93hil Actually, Aldi's is owned by one man and Trader Joe's is owned by his brother. They run their businesses entirely differently. Aldi's has pretty good prices, too, but TJ's is a much better experience.
they still have the biryani at my trader joes... now if they would only bring back the Dairy Free Coconut Mochi Ice Cream... if you have that at your trader joes, I'll trade!
Oh my god - this captures so many experiences. I miss trader joes since moving to Canada. I love that store. I never like grocery shopping or shopping period- but ... I always enjoyed going to Trader Joes. If the company every went public, it'd probably be ruined. The owners know what they're doing. I only wish they were more conscious about the packaging (i.e. less of it)
dude, kaleb, chill, Trader Joe's rocks. We just got them in NYC and every time I drive past one it makes me think of home in Cali. I lived on their chicken and cabbage dumplings and frozen burritos when I was in college. YUM!
trader joes is actually one of the most corrupt companies. They are owned by the German "walmart" who is 9 largest retailers bringing 71 billion in sales. with 9,500 stores.
Trader Joes is rated at a 1 on a scale of one to ten on fishing ethics.
There is a reason why trader joes food is cheap. because its a CHEAP low quality product!
If only people knew what they are actually supporting when shopping at trader joes!
Anymore, I can't live too far away from a Trader Joe's. It controls my life! (which I don't have, by the way) Seriously, great job on the commercial, love the lyrics and sooo true! TJ's has the best looking female shoppers in town, any town. Agreed?

@donnadallastx - If it was that big a deal don't you think the creator of this video would be making a fuss? And sorry, but your argument has no base. Half the stuff you mention could be said about any independent organic store. They are not the same song, similar subject matter sure, but that does not make them the same song. You could also put in Harrys, the Fresh Market, etc. Your creating drama for nothing.
@donnadallastx: you are making an assumption as well - that they saw the video and lied about it when you asked them on their site. So you may think I made an assumption, but you clearly did too. I think you need some Kombucha. I have no affiliation to either of these parties, I like them both. I just question your emphatic statements that you "know" what happened...
@cep224: too many coincidences for me to believe that they came up with the same laundry list--oh hey, that's another one, the shopping list--on their own. you can believe them but i don't. their satirical take on the spoiled rich white nerds who shop at whole foods and think they are being "green" (yes, even my 10 year-old "got it" here in dallas, when she came down off her horse to look at it) is for me, still just a piece of plagiarism. they teach 2nd graders here that that is wrong.

I guarantee you will find that not only has someone else already thought of it, they thought of it two years ago.
Also, I would wager that the WF video has more hits because this one is more cerebral. Popularity thrives on simplicity and the lyrics to this Trader Joe's song are much more complex and less repetitive.
Luckily carlsfinefilms can take solice that their audience is of a higher caliber.
@InsertDeepLyrics: everything IS derivative, but the responsibility of the artist is to bring something fresh to the party. mr. fogandsmog started out doing that-taking the hellish parking lot and EXPANDING on it--fine. but when he cut INTO the store, it was just a litany of the same things done here first. no points for that. i agree with you that THIS is a smarter, wittier, more creative piece. it's perhap TOO clever and sophisticated for the lowest common denominator, or mass consumption.
@donnadallastx : i had nothing to do with the making of this. i am an advertising creative, and stealing other's ideas is considered the lowest of the low. i worked in agencies in nyc and here, and no decent creative person would THINK of doing it. my husband's boss once fired a guy on the spot because he found out he presented a campaign lifted from Communication Arts, an advertising publication of top work. i'm also a mom, and i am teaching my kids to stand up to injustice and bullies.
Oh brother @donnadallastx. If you like this video more, then that's great. The Whole Foods video is also a subtle piece of California, which you may not notice living in Dallas. I like this video as well, but we can enjoy both of the vidoes without making accusations of plagerism..... Please shop at Trader Joe's
@cep224: nightmare parking lot, weird shopping carts, products discontinued/missing, annoying male shopper, express lane problem, cheap wine reference, funnily named organic products, employee art shots, chalkboard shots, yoga women. this video has been around for 2 years. fogandsmog CLEARLY saw it and was "inspired" by it, to put it nicely. as to your california remark, you know what they say about people who "assume?" it certainly applies here.

it's really a crime that that tedious whole foods rap video stole all the ideas in this spot. the nail in the coffin is the yoga chick, which was certainly done much better here, 2 years ago, by carlsfinefims. i'll bet that whole foods actually paid for that piece of plagiarism, after yearning with jealousy for 2 years for their own clever fan tribute.
they used to put coccaine in Coca cola, it makes you worder if there could be crack in apple juice. i cant stop drinking that stuff and after like 2 glasses i put it away, think for a bit, and then get it back out!
This shit came out 2 years ago and the Whole Foods vid surpassed this then less then a month. Men lie, women lie, and numbers don't. The fact of the matter is that the Whole Foods Parking Lot commercial in no way is copying this song and you can tell which one is better. Oh and the Whole Foods Parking Lot video is the feature story for Fox News at 10.
"Águas de Março" (Waters of March) by Antonio Carlos Jobim. It's a very popular Brazilian tune from the early 70's. There are English and Portuguese lyrics both written by Jobim.
@splooop The music sounds like Anya Marina "Waters Of March (Águas De Março)" on her really good Slow & Steady Seduction album (I recommend giving it a listen)
haha jessontherun has made sweeping assumptions about me... 1) that I'm a man, 2) that I'm an american who lives in the US. Wrong on both accounts. Been living in Europe for years and got a University degree in German culture and history. I even gave an in-depth presentation on the Albrecht brothers in one of my Business German classes. I think I know a bit more than you about the subject...
@JessOnTheRun Hey Asshole - how ya doing now? I see from your lame ass Youtube page that you are oh-so loved here. HA HA HA! . . Oh man . . . I see now that you are just a pathetic cunt "on-the-run" LOL! Good luck on spewing all your loser venom! >;) Oh yeah, fuck you .
I love Trader Joe's and once went in with my camera(they had no signs posted saying I couldn't) and they became cross with me. The manager that spoke to me sternly, was a little mad and a lot cute. I was writing a piece for my blog on their flour and I mentioned the cute part. I told him to read it. But he never said anything to me again about the photo incident.
@Jessontherun, claiming that Europe 'rules our lives' here in America is absurd. For every big European company you listed there's an American company that's bigger and has just as big a presence in Europe as your wonderful European companies have in the US. Can't ignore Asia either, those crazy Chinese and Japanese folk have some pretty big companies and deep pockets too...
Super, I stopped going there when I realized after spending $100+ I'd get home and have tons of sauce and condiments, but NOTHING to make a meal. Fantastic.
JessOnTheRun, thanks for calling me simpleton. this is so fresh after being labeled half-wit, numbskull, and puddinhead for years. trader joe's sells food that comes from a country other than the good ol' USA?! that's just so radical and CRAZY! i AM sick of those europeans ruling my life. why just a week ago, i lost a whole HOUR of sleep trying to see what kate middleton's dress looked like! these euro-potentates better hope i never even SEE a toblerone bar or a ricola cough drop again, buddy!
they just played some of this on our local ABC channel in dallas, WFAA, announcing the future opening of a trader joes here. carl, someone at trader joes should write you a fat check for supplying images for their store announcement! we never get tired of this wonderful piece of work, talented carl.
@donnadallastx you simpleton americans dont understand that trader joe's is actual just the average, normal grocery store you have in germany... its a german company, from the Aldi brothers, americans just have no idea how much europe rules their life... Tcom, CitiBank, Philips Electronics, Bose, Addidas, Nokia, Bayer, Schering, Siemens, the world wide web, CD & DVD, etc. etc.
@JessOnTheRun if you'd actually been to Europe, you'd know that European grocery stores are nothing like Trader Joe's. Have you even been to Aldi? Aldi is more of a typical European grocery store... and it's nothing like TJ. Plus Theo Albrecht is not the creator of TJ - he bought the company in 1979. The headquarters is in Cali, not in Europe. You seriously have no idea what you're talking about.
@llamaoffspring You're presumptuous disposition reveals your naivete, ignorance and lack of experience in life... one only need look at your round wide face and absurd out of date stringy hair trying to cover the receeding hairline to know how unattractive you are, therefore, limiting your potential with women. I lived in Germany for 10 years numbnuts, I think I know a tad bit more than you about the subject...
@llamaoffspring From Trader Joe's official site> """"Trader Joe's was founded by Joe Coulombe and is owned, since 1979, by a family trust set up by the late German businessman Theo Albrecht, one of the two brothers behind the German discount supermarket chain Aldi."""" Like most German acquisitions, it enjoyes commercial success due to European competency and skill. Like Land Rover/ the Mini... making its huge comeback after BMW revived it. ur american, so u culturally ignorant.
LOL! In NC and Trader Joes is apparently the same everywhere. I hate and love to find new great things because then when you go back they've either gone on grocery vacay or are gone forever. Love the Sunflower butter, their cereals and their brand of CHAI TEA! yummm. Aloe vera juice is a colon cleansing agent btw.... *never will I try it again* lol GREAT Song for an awesome store!
I've yet to see the cart thing here, but it was hilarious on the vid haha
i just found this link in my favorites folder whilst cleaning up my desktop and just had to come back for another listen cuz it makes me so happy.....and my brother and i lived spittin' distance to that very trader joe's when we lived in san fran.
I have also worked there for many years and can honestly say it is a capitalist venture built on a fallacy. I hear people describing it as healthy or driven by organic products, but the reality is quite the opposite. Take a second look at any of the cooked meals (even salads in most cases) and you might notice jawdropping levels of fat and salt. All their produce even the organic produce is outsourced from other countries; picked too early, thus deficient. The list goes on do your research.
I love the line about beautiful moms in their yoga clothes!!! On a Christmas Eve, doing last minute shopping, I won turkey raffle because I could show them the ultrasound of my little baby, just 5 weeks old at the time! YO AMO TRADER JOE"S!! And now my sweet litte boy, 7 years old, looks forward to finding "Joey" , the stuffed animal dressed in seasonal clotes, hidden anywhere high or low in the store! Then he gets an organic treat when he reveal the location to a cashier!!!
I've met the guy who made this he does not work there but I think think they should hire him to make a jingle if you work there show this to your boss
@itarfer, we miss Ruby Red Chai, too (esp. my 9-yo). And we miss the creamy mac'n'cheese that my veggie son loved, the boxed organic mac'n'cheese that was a lunch staple, the black lentils, and the whole wheat apricot bars that I craved from Pleasanton, CA TJ's (these "died" almost 20 ya). RIP!

This is like a song making fun of your favorite uncle. The one who let you loaned you his 70's Cheech and Chong albums in the 80's and smoked weed with you. It's all true, all loving, a little bit satirical, but you know he'd love to sing it along with you.
It's like a suburban Caucasian salute to gastrointestinal comfort.
We went to Trader Joe's to find this stuff (some of it they don't have anymore, sadly), and we asked one of the workers to help us, and he got so excited that there was a song about Trader Joe's. The question is - did you (the guy who made this) work at Trader Joe's?
Is this the TJs on Masonic in SF? I'm pretty sure I've waiting in that line of cars before.

it's really a crime that that tedious whole foods rap video stole all the ideas in this spot. the nail in the coffin is the yoga chick, which was certainly done much better here, 2 years ago, by carlsfinefims. i'll bet that whole foods actually paid for that piece of plagiarism, after yearning with jealousy for 2 years for their own clever fan tribute.

It's the lines you stand in while you're waiting to pay
It's the lines that keep you in the store all day
It's the endless lines twisting every which way
It's endless lines that cause you to say:
F*ck this, I'm ordering from Fresh Direct.

Yup! You actually got a glance at the Masonic ave. entrance to T.J.'s. in S.F.
It's beyond comprehension how folks can wait in this line and how the City allows this lineup to actually make this street dangerous!!

@splooop
"Águas de Março" (Waters of March) by Antonio Carlos Jobim. It's a very popular Brazilian tune from the early 70's. There are English and Portuguese lyrics both written by Jobim.

haha jessontherun has made sweeping assumptions about me...

TucsonPaolo 7 months ago
@Jessontherun, claiming that Europe 'rules our lives' here in America is absurd. For every big European company you listed there's an American company that's bigger and has just as big a presence in Europe as your wonderful European companies have in the US. Can't ignore Asia either, those crazy Chinese and Japanese folk have some pretty big companies and deep pockets too...

@donnadallastx you simpleton americans dont understand that trader joe's is actual just the average, normal grocery store you have in germany... its a german company, from the Aldi brothers, americans just have no idea how much europe rules their life... Tcom, CitiBank, Philips Electronics, Bose, Addidas, Nokia, Bayer, Schering, Siemens, the world wide web, CD & DVD, etc. etc.
JessOnTheRun 8 months ago
@JessOnTheRun if you'd actually been to Europe, you'd know that European grocery stores are nothing like Trader Joe's. Have you even been to Aldi? Aldi is more of a typical European grocery store... and it's nothing like TJ. Plus Theo Albrecht is not the creator of TJ - he bought the company in 1979. The headquarters is in Cali, not in Europe. You seriously have no idea what you're talking about.
Oh, and don't get me started on globalization.
llamaoffspring 7 months ago
@llamaoffspring You're presumptuous disposition reveals your naivete, ignorance and lack of experience in life... one only need look at your round wide face and absurd out of date stringy hair trying to cover the receeding hairline to know how unattractive you are, therefore, limiting your potential with women. I lived in Germany for 10 years numbnuts, I think I know a tad bit more than you about the subject...
JessOnTheRun 7 months ago

It is all so brilliant and true.
