BTW, I know that. I've had one myself. The difference is, mine was @4,000'. Not when opening @200'. Big f***in difference... Thump your chest all you want, young man. I'm middle-aged, w/nothing left to prove. I wish you Luck. You're gonna need it.
@braden252 "What Line Over" Toggles, aka "WLO's," they are designed to release the control line, without the use of a hook knife, in the event of a slider up line-over malfunction... :-)
I got one question. Not necessarily directed to this vid. But.
Every BASE vid i watch the jumper always does what looks like a painful landing. i hardly ever see them do a stand up landing. Is this cus of the type of canopy or cus they dont have time to flair or what.
@ullekush a lot of times they are in half brakes for a majority of they canopy ride, so they don't have as powerful of a flair left when it comes time to do so...this case is just because it was a rear riser landing on the side of a rocky desert hill
PLF on sharp rocks. That was probably cost a layer of skin! At least you cleared the lineover, which would have been the real killer. You all be safe with that BASE jumping. I'll stick with the safer side opening higher than 1,000 ft (just for this reason).
Wow man!.. nice exit and sub term track and way to clear that line over. Curious.. were u using a tailgate or any sorts? and if so was is the piece of dacron or tape? Anyway... again.. good job glad it all worked out okay.
@danielbrown1998 One of the parachute lines is packed in a way that causes the lien to route over the top of the canopy, instead of straight down. Sometimes, as in this case, the line can work it's way sideways, and clear itself to a normal position.
actually the line didnt work its way anywhere. he was using a pair of WLO toggles from apex. they have a pin that you pull that then allows you to pull the toggle off the end of the brake line, and then the line is able to free from the slider thus clearing the lineover.
They're attached to your risers differently from normal toggles. if you get a lineover and if its your steering lines, you can disconnect the toggle involved and the lineover disappears - thats why they are called 'What Line Over' toggles. You then land using rear risers
ROFL...If you listn real carefully i mean REAL carefully...You can hear him say "OH FUCK" in the second angle right after the camera man says "Shit".....Shits halarious
"What Line Over" toggles. Rather than running your brake lines through the slider, in the event of a line over, just un-stow then release your toggles.
because he is using base jumping specific gear and all new base rigs use one canopy so cutting away is not an option but as you can see base specific gear works and using the toggles WLO that he has will take up less altitude aswell. hope this helps.
i cut away my toggles faster then he did...and i didnt even mean too lol....nice save man....funnny how when you wanna cut away the toggles you cant grab the little loops!!!
not a line twist...WLO = what line over toggles...easy to remove...you simply pull the pin the and toggles remove allowing the lines to clear in the event of a lineover.

Is this kind of problem caused by making a packing mistake, , or is it just a random glitch that can happen to anyone when the parachute deploys?

@xuberchrisx ahh, I see, so he then landed on rear risers. And now that I watch that video again, I see that is the case.
Thanks for the information xuberchrisx.

@xuberchrisx Is it the same as cutting it? or is it better?

is bad packing usually the cause of such malfunctions?
logicaxe 1 year ago
@logicaxe can be the result of not using a proper tailgate/slidergate when packing slider up, or just bad fuckin luck

Just wondering why you cut away the right wouldnt have been better to land with one riser and one brake line?
feral187 3 years ago
the fact that a "brake line" only works with it's counter part on the other side, than it didn't matter what he did; there are no pros or cons.

be careful on a slider off jump though. how bout blowing a toggle on a 230 footer. reaction time?

yea i mean...its generally not recommended to use wlo on slider down/off jumps...so i dont see this being a problem unless your lazy to reconfigure.
