Thanks Adam, I've been trying to learn this one and I havent been able to get it just yet... Just out of curiosity, how many video cameras have you broken knocking them over like that lol ;-D
Thank you for this video! I was trying to learn this crack (I'd heard it called the overhand crack) and it WOULD NOT work. It turns out I was making the exact mistake you demonstrated. Now I know what to fix!
@TyrantBB Heh, I've developed a funny jump sidewards when I throw the whip forwards to stop it whacking me. Looks kinda funny I'd guess but it works, the whip cracks and I don't whack myself any more :-)
@aliceonceagain4life I bought a nylon one cause they are cheaper and can get wet. I got my nylon for about $100 which is considered really cheap. 8 footer
YES!!! thank you Adam! thanks to you and this video i went and started practicing, withing 15 or so tries i had this crach down to a science! thanks! my problem was that was was not bringing the whip up the the "floaty" point befor i flicked it! once i fixed that i can do this thing now! thanks!
id like to see you use your whip to grab on something and then swing on it like indiana jones.of course i dont wanna see you get hurt so take the percautions.was never sure it is possible to do or not.
It looks like a snake about to strike while coming forward...Part's horizontal, out in front of you, part curves up and back, then the end curves back up and forward, like its head. Then it cracks, and that only ADDS to the effect.
Forgive the posting under Williamjosephauthor. That is my 10 year old son, who quite creatively made a 8-10 foot whip braided with three pieces of folded duct tape. Although it doesn't snap real well, it is very creative. He loves the Winrich whip and Adam's videos. Don't worry, I'll get him a real whip, that or we'll upgrade to some better material like spaghetti.
hey could you make a more detailed video for the underhand and the side crack? im sure im not the only one :) your videos are great, i got the cattleman's crack and the overhead thanks to you :D much respect and praise adam!
Its kinda a funny touch to the video...I tried it once and right when the camera came down and hit the ground the battery popped out and effectively killed the camera.. Sadly when I reviewed the video that I filmed, The last 15 seconds was lost. Its a shame because I had made some really good cracks on my new whip I was tying to film... As far as my camera's fate, It survived and still works perfectly.
I just thought of this, you can add a stick extension to the bottom of you camera facing forward, that way when it hits the ground it hits the stick, not the cam, and then the camera can plop sideways to the ground.
i just got a 10 ft leather bullwhip and im trying to get the flick right... i have studied this video closlly and i have practiced for hours and i just cant get it to crack... are there any common mistakes i could be making or problems with my whip that u can think of that would be causing this, thank u
For a 10 ft leather bullwhip, I'd say if you spent less than $200 on it and got it off of Ebay, chances are it's not a very good whip, and that would be what's giving you problems. Other than that, another technique to try is lay the whip behind you, and punch it straight forward, punching it at a target.
it was more then 200$ and i ordered it from a store... but when u say punch it would that be under or over? thanks for taking the time to look at my questions
Punch over the top, or on the side. With the underhand, it's kind of like bowling, and give the whip a flick with your wrist as you lift it. Also, the flick is not an easy crack to get at all, so the more practice, the better
I have a 8 ft bullwhip that I having the same problem. I can get it to crack using a sideways flick but the overhand flick seems to be giving me issues. I can get it once in a while..The underhand flick seems to work for me just fine as well.
i practiced with a 10 footer for about 2 weeks before learning the flick... i was surprised how such a simple looking crack could be so tough to get down... what helped me the most was making sure i threw the whip back hard enough - the straighter and tighter the whip is when stretched straight back, the better it will crack.... dont literally THROW it back but make sure u give it enough momentum to get it straight back and right when it gets to that suspended spot like adam says, throw it :)
Adam, thank you for these videos. After 10 years i've finally been able to put aside the money to start buying some quality whips and these videos have begun to teach me a lot about how to use one. I've mastered the over head crack and am working on several of your other moves. Will this DVD you're making involve whip maintenance too? I'm a little fuzzy still on how to replace a Whip's "fall" and I know I'll have to deal with it sooner or later.
wow did you mean to hit your camera? anyway do you know how to make bullwhips? if you do pleas show an easy way how to. all the ones i have tried suck
how many plait is that whip maybe 10? cuz i just ordered a 8ft 10 plait bullwhip and i want to see what im gonna a get and also does the plait affect the performence or anything about the whip
hey adam, i have a four plait stock whip (very good whip i think for the price =) and can't get any crack with the flick. do i need a whip that has a natural curve or finer plaiting?
I've been watching your videos for some time now and have learned a great deal from you. I have several questions though. Could you explain the difference between holding the whip with the natural curve and holding the whip against the natural curve? And also, which way do you hold the whip when you crack it?
Adam, I cannot for the life of me get this whipcrack down...I'm pretty sure I have the motions right...I was working on them today to get the right ones...it seems like sometimes I can make it almost crack, it makes a soft sound like if i used more power it would crack but then I use more power and it doesn't. Is there a possibility that this certain crack doesn't work well with less expensive whips???
[I replied to The Cattleman's Crack vid in this same format. I will be using it frequently on these vids]
You did a great job on this video.
Pros: Very informative, very straight forward, easy to understand, awsome looking whip, and good quality of picture and sound.
Cons: None
Questions for You: Would you say that it is easier for a shorter person to use a shorter whip rather than a longer whip or does it make any difference?

The other good points is that the video quality is really nice so you don't have to kill your eyes trying to focus on what you are doing and the sound quality is very good which gives that nice CRACK and good voice audio for you.

Great stuff, Adam! I love your videos and find them to be very useful. I gave you 5 stars, any chance you could explain the underhand flick in more depth?
