@MouthOfTheUnknown Yeah, a lot of the good bands that started off as folk or symphonic are starting to head towards something a bit more solid. It's not a bad thing or a good thing. More melody is more pleasant to listen to, but it is also more work. There comes a point in everyone's career when they simply start getting tired. If you're a good musician, you burn a lot of your energy over time. You'll either rock/party yourself to death, take long breaks, or write filler material.

I never read lyrics, because they have very little to do with what the genre is. The only thing with this song that resembles "folk" is the violin mix. The chord structure, melodies and harmonies, drum pattern and vocal melody are all very different from what folk metal is, and especially fundamentally different from what Elvenking used to write.

@FireOps It's from the album - The Scythe. "The Scythe", as I see it, was meant to be listened to one song after another, in order. It tells a good story, if you listen. In fact, Elvenking started as standard folk\folk metal, but proved to the world with Winterwake and The Scythe that they can play other genres as well. If you like the style of "WinterWake", listen to Wyrd, - but don't hate on one song because you don't like it. Simply stop listening, and move along :D
