I've kayaked around that harbor many times, looking at the boats. There were definitely some super-nice yachts there that were probably well-insured (by owners that may be rich but not necessarily selfish or greedy, they are Santa Cruzans after all), but there were also many smaller, average-joe boats, some that looked handbuilt. A bunch are some people's only homes. Nothing like what's happened in Japan, of course, but a shame nonetheless.
How did people know that the tsunami will get into the Bay area that day. It seems like all of them were prepared to watch the tsunami. Aren't they afraid or the news already told them that this is gonna happen in santa cruz?
Fascinating that an event 5,000 miles away can send a surge way over here. I guess the idea is to ride the surge out and get the hell out of the harbor if you can.
