I'm not an ex-con. I do socialise with police and wardens and have spoken to inmates on a few occasions. I think rehabilitation is a better way to deal with crime.

Wouldn't it be better that a convict learn job skills in gaol and have a chance to literally pay their debt to society? Otherwise there's no alternative but crime or welfare to support themselves.

It's not the guns that are responsible for crime in America, it's the lack of ethics, and social responsibility, and accountability. There are millions of law-abiding gun owners in the USA, the criminals are the minority. The media does not portray the situation accurately or fairly, and the result is misinformation.
