hello i have a remington 700 and was wondering if it would be possible to use the action from that gun and put it in the kit or do i need to buy a seprate action.
@sumoman53 Yes, the R5 was designed for Remington 700 actions. The gun in this video was built using the action from a Remington 700 ADL Youth model. Bought the rifle brand new and tore the whole thing down just for the receiver and bolt.
@ocabj thankyou very much for the reply, but one more question overall how easy was it put the kit together, and would it require me to go to a gunsmith at any point?
@sumoman53 It's best you go to the competitionshootingstuff website (Gary Eliseo) for this info. Generally, it's possible to put it together yourself. But there are a couple cuts recommended to be made on the receiver to make sure the rounds feed properly from the mag (so bullets don't hang up). They say you can use a file to do this. Gary Eliseo put mine together for me since I had another smith in our area do the barrel work for me and that smith just handed off my barreled action to Gary.
@ocabj thanks again, and i apologise for the beginner questions, im just new to this but really want to get into the sport.. so if i got the eliseo r5 all i would need to do is bring my remington action to my gunsmith and ask if he could barrel it?
@sumoman53 Yes, pretty much. Again, give Gary Eliseo a call or email sometime. He's the best person to ask since he makes the R5 kit. Plus, there's the chance he made slight changes to his kit since I bought mine (I know he changed at least one aspect of the buttstock retention after I bought mine), so what I might be telling you may not be applicable to the new design. He's a nice guy and will be helpful.
Good question. Rule 3.10 in the NRA HP rulebook allows for a ground cloth or mat "provided it is not constructed or used in a manner to provide artificial rest or support." So what is artificial support? Rule 5.2 defines it as "any supporting surface except the ground not specifically authorized for use in the rules for the position prescribed. Digging of elbow or heel holes at the firing points which form artificial support for the elbows, arms, or legs is prohibited." So...
if you want to adjust your position in sitting by getting your body higher/lower with respect to your feet, what you can do is fold your mat where you sit or fold your mat where your feet are placed to adjust your height appropriately. By definition you're not getting more support, but simply adjusting your point of aim.
some people have compared aperture sights to unmagnified optics
there are rimfire matches that prohibit the use of aperture/peep sights because they give the shooter such an unfair advantage over someone with v notch sights.
so yes, theyre state of the art tools that cost a much as scopes
nice reloading speed!

thats a crazy sport why do you use the weird optics? does that improve accuracy?
