  • I have been wanting to learn this and your video was the best one I found on YouTube! Your explainations of the steps are easy to follow and very well done! This video was very informative. Thank you from someone who thought this was much more difficult than it is!

  • Best explained video found for the beginner. Loved the dog!!!

  • I have never tried brass tape, so I really don't know how it acts when making jewelry. I say give it a try and let us know how it goes! If you do want to use the copper tape, I got a huge roll for a decent price at Hobby Lobby, but you can also find it online.

I have tried to smaller thin solder, and it was more difficult. It did work, but it was smokey, and the end result looked tarnished and lumpy. I reccommend using the thicker solder, I just grabbed some from Home Depot. ;) hope this helps!

  • Hi it's me again! I have 2 more question before I start trying this on my own-- Do you have to use COPPER tape for the pendant, or can you use brass (that's what I have). Also, I have solder that is pretty thin; thinner than what you use in the video. Will it be as effective or will I need more layers or anything? Looking forward to the video with the copper tape wrapping!! Thank you so much ☺

  • Thankyou so much! :)

I will make that video soon. Truthfully, I forgot about it, but I will get started on it this week for you.

When adding flux, I usually don't add a second coat, unless there's a spot that didn't get covered evenly. If its a good even first coat, it doesn't seem to make a difference if I add a second coat of flux or not.

Thanks for commenting, have a great weekend! :)

  • My favorite video of soldering for jewelry! Great at going into detail and explaining things well. When will you be making that video of how to wrap the edges of the glass with the copper tape? Also, when putting on flux and then soldering it, do you put on another layer of flux before soldering it a second time? Thanks!!

  • I love the dog drinking the background...and his squeaking sounds like a german shep! Great video as well. A LOT of great information. Thank you.

  • i will try to post a followup video regarding wrapping the edges in the copper foil tape.

  • *sorry* the pointed tip is usually too skinny to work with.

  • yes, i prefer the chiseled edge tgat came with the iron. My iron (purchased at Home Depot) came with two different tips, the other is has fine piontedt

  • do you use a certain tip on your iron?

  • Great video! Do you think you could show how you wrap the corners of the glass?

  • Thanks, everyone, for your sweet comments. :)

  • CAP953... thanks! glad you found it helpful. no, i dont usually flux if I'm adding more solder right away, but if the piece has sat around unfinished for awhile I do smear a fresh coating of flux just to be on the safe side. ;)

  • great video, thanks. This is the best one I have seen showing the technique. Do you flux again when adding the other two layers?

  • great video, thanks. This is the best one I have seen showing the technique.

  • Thanks so much for sharing your technique.. I can hardly wait to try this.. I'm getting all my supplies in order.. (that is one thirsty doggy.. Smiles)

  • This is the absolute BEST video I have found on the entire internet. I have searched for months and thank goodness I found this one!! It's PERFECT!!! THANK YOU.....THANK YOU!!! ( I love hearing your doggy in the background......soooo cute!)
