  • Thanks, I learned-- it will help.

  • Very nice. The Latency has been killing me for years. To step up your method, I just pushed my boom mic up towards the speaker and recorded the metronome itself and zero'd in that way. Thanks so much for your help!

  • acid pro 4.0 is the best for regular recording, i just transfer session to more current version to mix more

  • hey man, i have a audio interface and i record vocals thru it, but whem i'm recording, my voice is in sync on the headphones, but on the recorded track on ACID is out of sync. is it the same problem?

  • Thank you!!! Very Informative!! I found out more ways than one to help my situation! You Rock!

  • Is there any way to make a bass drop on Acid?

  • @MrDillon45 yeah, a million different ways. the same way you would in any other program using VST instruments.

  • @jacksonwonderful I don't even know how to do that.. What are those?

  • @MrDillon45 then you're not ready to make bass drops. read up on the basics of production, vsts, lfos, portamento, etc until you can work the whole process out, start to finish.

  • thax bro.. helped loads man..

had to go to 207 to line it up...

was better if i used a drumbeat rather than the metronome ....

using a soundblaster thx soundcard but my guitars were coming in late when recording, then had to spend time lining them all up...very frustrating and time consuming...

    cheers for help my friend...

  • i have my turntable to my mixer then that to my audio interface but for some reason everything comes a second late, its fine for sampling but i cant begin to record scratching because its like a second late :/ cant get it to be on point at all

  • @TheGhettostylus have you... tried any of the suggestions posted on this video or in the comments?

  • @jacksonwonderful nah havnt got round to it yet, it could be because it only cost £10.00 but money is tight at the mo... i will have a read through the comments.

  • @TheGhettostylus I'm confused for two reasons: Firstly, if you haven't tried any of the suggestions in the video, why are you posting that you're having latency problems? Secondly, the ASIO4all drivers are free. I just made sure last week that they were. They still are.

  • @jacksonwonderful im using ableton live and this was the only video i found with any sort of link to latency issues, i tried asio4all but wont produce any sound when recording from my turntable, just left the comment in the hope someone else had the same problem with ableton and might help out.

  • @TheGhettostylus Does ableton have any support?

  • Thanks for the tip to get some use out of this sound card - I set the latency to 105 and it's dead on at the beginning but then starts lagging after a minute or so - is there any trick to fixing that?

  • @spookypie yep, google the asio4all drivers. they're free and they work wonders!

  • @jacksonwonderful FREE? They want $29.99!!!

  • @spookypie learn how to google man. it's free. I'm not in the business of lying to people.

  • Is there a magical way to lock an acapella to a beat in Acid 7? I have a pella video of OTIS and I want to add my own beat on top of that. However, I cannot figure out how to do it. I tried beatmap wizard, adding markers by hitting the H key, read forums, and read the help file. I would appreciate any help you can offer. I could use my turntable and play my beat into Acid but I know their is a more professional way to do it than that. Thanks again! Peace!!

  • @TheReggiereg1 It's the exact same concept as using a turntable. If you can do it by ear on a turntable, you can do it by ear AND visually in ACID. Additionally, if you know the tempo of Otis, make sure your beat is the same tempo (96 I think, but don't quote me) and drop the acapella in. If you're having trouble after that, it's your internal rhythm, not the software, that is problematic.

    P

  • @jacksonwonderful - I appreciate your insight and quick response. I was thinking for some reason that you can anchor pellas and beats in Acid every so many bars as to keep them in sync. Thanks!!

  • ey thanks alot my dude im usin acid pro 7 but im guessin its the exact same just guess work with the latency! thanks again my man ill send u some of my shit wen its done

  • thats funnywhen the cat walks on the keyboard

  • Ok How can the help file explain it..? And no not yet.. I'm about to get one though.. I believe it'll be worth it.

  • Can anybody record drums in ACID? I can't figure it out except for just having all the drums on 1 track.. Is there any way to put each drum on it's own track?

  • @MrDillon45 yeah, the help file should explain it. do you have a multi-track interface?

  • @MrDillon45 : Acid 7 lets you record 2 tracks at once ....so you can record, say ,the snare and kick at the same time, (set one track to left input chanel, the other to right & arm both to record) then go back and record the Hi-hat and cymbals....Then the toms. Then EQ them, send to a BUS and compress and add maybe a little reverb. I believe Led Zep often just used one mic to record their drums?

Drum recording is a whole science and art in itself.

  • to hear yourself in real time you have to open the computers sound icon in the bottom corner and hit properties. it's somewhere in there not sure if it's under recording or playback but you can also adjust the mic level in and out which is nice to get balanced

  • lol at the cat

  • ur awesome!!!!

  • @SinTonicOfficial : I agree....these are awsome videos! Funny thing is it's probably even harder to make vids & edit them than it is to make music on ACID!....He'll be asked to do video making tutorials next!

  • I recently purchased acid studio 10, m audio fast track interface, mxl990 condensed mic and sound proof my closet. when when i recorded some vocals, it played back as if i was in a cave.. before all this investment, it seemed that my 40 dollar usb mic sounded better than what i have now..thanks for your help and great patience.

  • @szepedaortiz You spent all that money and you're using music studio 10??

  • I recently purchased acid studio 10, m audio fast track interface, mxl990 condensed mic and sound proof my closet. when when i recorded some vocals, it played back as if i was in a cave.. before all this investment, it seemed that my 40 dollar usb mic sounded better than what i have now..thanks for your help and great patience.

  • Thanks for the vid bro. Good looking out. Btw, the cat is hilarious! He just sat there on the board like "This is my beat!".

  • @Dsmif89 Yes of course, but you'll need a soundcard that's capable of real time monitoring.

  • silly question, but still learning.....can u plz tell me why record through left channel and not record through stereo with condesor mic?

  • @MDWADDY Because the vast majority of condensor mics are mono devices. you can record in stereo, but both channels will contain the same data, so essentially you're wasting twice as much hard drive space (and an extra channel in your DAW) by recording vocals in stereo.

  • what about 32 bit sound cards you never address those should i record with 32 bit or set the card to 24 bit?

  • @pavy415 I've never seen a sound card that supported 32 bit recording.

  • @jacksonwonderful o ok because when I record it gives me options like set it to 32 bit or 24 bit or 16 bit I guess I'll have to play around with it and see what works the best!

  • 3:00 looks like the cat is looking at the words

  • yo man i have acid 4.0 and when i record vocals they come out all rough and ghetto sounding what can i do to make my voice mor clear effects etc?

  • I've got most of this figured out I think. One last question. When you're recording (vocals or anything I guess) why is it there is no way to cancel it? You have to hit stop, then delete the file. Also, it doesn't delete off the computer, it just disappears of the project in acid. Is there a way to cance during recording, and/or a way to delete the record take off the comp from acid pro? Would be a big help, I can't seem to figure it out.

  • @Egon420 Yeah there is a way to cancel the recording process and delete the file all at once. I do it all the time. Which version are you using?

  • @jacksonwonderful

Acid Pro 7. Can't seem to figure this out

  • Hey there, The tips at the end of the segment helped me alot. I set the Latency at 120, just like you did and it was "randomly" perfect for my comp also....

    Shanks a glob

  • your cat has perfect timing!

  • for those with problems on acid .. usually people dont have an external drive the less space you got on your PC the more hard work you will do.use your machine just to record and the takes place them in your external drive trust me.if do not? it will slow your music, build skips, frezz or just close your file and youll lose everything.

  • @LilWizardVHR That is helpful advice, though it won't help with latency.

  • Thanks man.

  • I have an MBOX2, but it still seems like I have bad latency problems. Could this be because I don't have enough RAM? I have 512mb

  • @guitarslayer17 I have no idea. The MBOX is proprietary hardware... but damn, only 512??

  • @jacksonwonderful yeah the desktop is over 5 years old. My laptop has 1gb of ram and that has even worse latency. I end up having to trim and split every single note when I record and it takes hours!

  • @guitarslayer17 I doubt it takes hours-- I dealt with the same problem for years. But because the MBOX is proprietary, you'll want to either try the asio4all drivers or contact the manufacturers of the MBOX.

  • I used acid 4 for years, never had this issue. Finally upgraded to acid 7 on a new comp, all I use it for is vocals.. and they are always off beat its really pissing me off. I don't fully understand this process but I will try.. its just ridiculous that this even happens I don't get it. Is it a problem with the software? I got a really good sound card too thought I would be set

  • @Egon420 which soundcard are you using and is it configured in ACID as your "audio device type?"

  • thanx for the clip on how to fix the latency. ive been fighting that thing for way too long. i was zooming in and dragging it over then zooming back out....lol

  • man how do you hook up your mic

  • what if i cant snap my fingers to test the mic than what do i do?

  • YOUR Cats Da Bomb G, U Can Tell He was Like. I'm na show ya'll where it's at, In other ways he ain't No pussy.... U go ginger kiss ma paws, Lay another beat for your Fans... and your owner. And you best believe he's serious.Meow.!

In all seriousness Though nice Vid,

  • That's the cat from Alice in Wonderland lol

  • hey im pretty new to recording vocals.. just wondering you said you shouldnt try recording stereo on a standard condenser mic.. does that mean when i record with mine i should be puttin it to the left? then copy it and have it to the right? if you could answer this it'd be greatly appreciated because i've been recording in the middle. thanks.

  • @MERLINtehWIZ No need to over-think it. just record all vocals through the left channel and leave it as is. Don't copy and paste it, don't convert it to stereo, don't do anything to it aside from adding your vocal effects. That's how it's done.

    P

  • @jacksonwonderful won't it sound weird though if im only coming through the left? and i really appreciate the quick comment. thanks a lot man.

  • @MERLINtehWIZ ... do you want my advice or not?

  • @jacksonwonderful iite thanks man. appreciate the feedback

  • @MERLINtehWIZ Just try it out, it'll work. I understand why you're skeptical :)

  • @MERLINtehWIZ if you just record through the left, when you render it down it will go to both left and right... so it shouldnt sound weird :)

  • @MERLINtehWIZ switch it to mono and it will come out in the middle if u pan it will be like puttin it in stereo anyway

  • that's a creepy cat

  • thanx bruh.... i guess ima go get an audio interface...

  • You mentioned sound cards, can I upgrade a sound card in a laptop?

  • Comment removed

  • @StarBoyJonesProds yes. any usb interface will work with your laptop.

  • thanks bruh *)

  • For a buff guy you sure have a purrdy kitty :)) LMAO

  • @shazzybhaby08 Don't let the cat fool you-- she's a killer.

  • thank u so much ... i really thank u so much for this vdo ..i ve face that problem quite long time . i ve nobody to ask about that ..now i can solve it ...my poor sound card need -185 ms to get good wave in acid pro 7 ... thz alot ..

  • Nice Vid, but i was hoping you can help me out, me n my crew got acid pro 7 on vista but we cant use it for very long because in the middle of a session it says " An error occurred during the current operation. An Exception has occurred" it wouldnt be a problem if it didnt do it every 5 min. We have tryed googling it but nothing comes up. You think you can help me?

  • 2 thumbs up

  • Wasssup man...

    just a quick question ....

does it make a difference if you use ASIO or Microsoft sound mapper ?

  • whahahaahha the cat is awesome

  • lol cat

  • hella sick beat!

  • kool

  • I like your videos. They've been VERY helpful to me. Thank you.

  • cool 121 worked for me ty for the advise

  • That cat cracks me up!! Can I have it? :)

    Nice video!

  • Thumbs up for the musical Cat!!!!

  • Hello my friend, nice video.

When I record a vocal track, I arm a track for record the vocals, and just play a regular track as the instrumental playback, but the armed recording track captures my voice sound plus the instrumental playback also.

I want co capture just my voice and being able to play the instrumental track.

    Can you help me? Thanks.

  • @kklmjk : You are using headphones right?

  • Thanks a lot man, that was a huge help!!!!

  • yo fam. i was using audition but recently copped acid 7. what are the basic recording settings like mono stereo stuff like that. let me know how to get to em too

  • The help file explains all that better than I can.

    Peace,

    P

  • thanks for the tip ..i am using sony acid 6.0 with a condensor mic..with a stock card,no interface..just phantom power with an XLR cable with a stereo jack on one end going to my pc..it lets me record but i cannot hear myself while recording..any suggestions?? also..i am on a budget!! thanks

  • That's a soundcard problem. Try going into your control panel and configuring your sound card to record. Click on "Sounds and audio devices," then the voice tab, then test hardware. If that doesn't work, try downloading new asio drivers at asio4all . com or by contacting SONY or your sound card's manufacturer.

  • aiight thanks im gonna try downloading new drivers...

  • can you monitor when recoding vocals ??

  • I truly appreciate that!

    Peace,

    P

  • if i buy an audio card (for studio) i can fix latency and record midi as well right??

  • yes.

  • thanks dawg

  • well in trilogy, which is as far as I know one of THE BEST bass vsts, you are able to change the cut-off and resonance for each voice right there in the program. Have you tried that? You can also add an effect to the vst-- an eq (I don't suggest this) or a compressor/bass booster (waves max bass for example).

  • Bass is tricky. If the bass sound you're using sucks to begin with, you're not going to be able to transform it into this amazing bass sound.

Are you using live bass/keyboard, sampled bass or vsts?

  • I'm not the only one with a fame-loving cat:

    watch?v=bieDx14M-m8&feature=channel_page

  • Can I have the cat? I need a keyboard player! :)

  • lmao at the cat, damn now i gotta back and see what u were sayin///jk

  • is there any midi controller with durm pads that are competible to sony acid ??

I like akai 25 series but seems like it's not competible with sony acid... or is it competible??

  • Any midi device should be compatible. Is there any reason that you think the drum pads wouldn't be compatible with ACID?

  • I just saw some random video about the midi controller that I was interested, and the person in the video didn't mention acid as a competible device, but it was a dumb question to ask you cus I'm using midi controller now... ha ha I just thought that maybe that particular midi wasn't competible....

  • please share

  • young jeezy's don't do it is sick

  • appreciate it mang!

  • I have to agree with you on everything you've said Jackson! Even your posts to other viewers. I still use Acid Pro 4.0 at times. I knocked out plenty of tracks with it too back in the day. My cpu is 10yrs. old, & an AMD processor, 256 megs of RAM, & a 80gig/40gig split HD. So it was top notch back then! Time for an upgrade huh, lol! People sleep on Acid so I give you madd props for putting Acid on front street. It's way underrated as a usable, full production program. Thanks bruh!

  • Except... Sony needs to start sending me checks for all this advocacy. For reaaaal haha

    Appreciate it,

    P

  • I am also and Acid power user and would like to help out. I noticed you had "Microsoft Sound Mapper" selected. That's one of the number one reasons there is latency cause stock drivers for sound cards are useless. Try downloading ASIO4ALL. It is a Asio driver that works well with a lot of stock cards. just google ASIO4ALL and download install then select it in acid when you go to change you sound device. Hope that helps. DJ Pain hit mi up I think we can do some work together!

  • Glad you brought that up-- for a lot of soundcards, ASIO4ALL drivers help quite a bit. A good friend of mine, a singer, recommended the same for me. He is running a stock sound card and after downloading ASIO4ALL drivers, he has had no problems. It's not a guarantee, but it's definitely worth a shot!

  • stock sound cards are crazy huh?

this video only applies to those of us with consistent problems, but thanks for sharing the story-- we should all be so lucky!

  • thanx bro u just perfect man.keep making these vids man thank u

  • Sorry I guess my question falls under the category of a "dumb ass question". New to the whole midi world though pardon me. Thanks once again, I appreciate it. I think I 'm going to get the M- Audio fast track ultra. Buying a microphone an audio interface will be my next two investments. Peace

  • Not "dumb ass;" "stupid ass." :P

    It's all good man.

  • when I tell people that I use sony acid acid to make my music, they told me to change to protool or logic... I've heard that protool and logic has a much better sound quality... what do you think ??

  • Tell them to shut their stupid asses up. No one digital audio program can have better sound quality than another. Period. It all depends on firstly, the quality of your soundcard and audio input and secondly on the plug-ins used to process the audio. People love to make stuff up to make the program they use sound cooler. ACID and LOGIC have their main programmer in common (Xander Soren, he's from Madison, WI, where the sony creative software headquarters is located).

  • I'm so glad to hear that... since I have no intension of changing audio program cus I'm so used to acid.... but why is all the professional producers and engineers don't use acid as much as other products?? there must be some reason.... isn't there??

  • I think they don't use it because of a number of reasons. Firstly, ACID was marketed as an amateur production suite and it has only recently added on professional features such as multi-channel support, vst support, midi support, better pitch-stretching algorithms, etc. People just don't see ACID as a good competitor on the DAW market... yet.

  • so you strongly think that acid has nothing to loose against other DAWs right?? just that it aint really well known as the others... well... reason why I'm asking all this is that, I hear your works and it sounds really nice, which means acid is a great DAW.. I'm a rookie to the whole music thing, but glad to know that Acid is a great product. Prior to your info, I'm gonna stick to Acid !!

  • ACID's workflow wins for me. I can see why people love Logic though, I really can. Not so much protools for anything other than the mixdown, but it all fairness, I used a super old version of protools back when.

  • Thanks for another informative tutorial DjPain1. I have a question. I am currently using a stock sound card on my laptop, what would you recommend I do first. Buy a better sound card or invest in an audio interface?

  • Well, an audio interface IS a sound card, so yes, I recommend you buy one made for recording professional audio.

  • great video. i don't record much at the moment and I'm going to end up recording a lot more pretty soon, but when i do record i tend to get latency problems. so thanks, this is going to really help until i can afford professional equipment :)

  • Glad it helps!

  • What if you have drum samples that sound better than the other drum samples your using, like a snare and a bass drum and clap? Do you double up the drums? Same ? for loops.

  • Most producers I know layer their kicks and snares, but you have to be careful that they're not phasing each other out.

  • @jacksonwonderful: I've heard about this problem...and I think I understand it, I MUST be getting it sometimes as I will record 2 drum tracks at once using 2 mics....but I'm not sure I can "hear" it....Does it just make the sound flatter & quieter? Also, If you do get it can you just hit the INVERT TRACK PHASE button on one of the tracks to sort it out? Sorry, I asked U so many Qu's today I feel like a stalker! My Girlfriends like "Have you got a boycrush on the Acid guy?" HELP!
