  • Sir Winston Churchill described Edward VI as a "priggish invalid".

  • @weirdwinx1 they were actualy close and Mawas very affectionate to elizabeth especially after Edward was born because chances of either one of them claimg the throne was thin. They only fell out when Mary became a religious fanatic

  • its sad about how Mary and Elizabeth and Edward fell out beacause of their religion

  • I wish Mary had slapped Lady Bryan for her presumption; as the series goes on, Lady Bryan even gets to the point of lecturing Anne of Cleves about her duties as Queen of England. Talking about Mary's marriage the way she was, well, that (in terms of servant behavior) was not appropriate.

  • Mary I think liked Jane because Jane and her mother were very close friends

  • A CLASSY WOMAN!!!!

  • @Dogos73 absolutely...the only woman in that court who really behaves like a princess and noble

  • it's a little strange that this show made it look like mary and elizabeth were close when in reality they weren't close at all. they were 17 years apart and after mary became queen she put elizabeth in the tower of london because mary was catholic and elizabeth was a protestant.

  • @weirdwinx1 I remember reading that they were friendly with eachother when elizabeth was young but I'm not sure how accurate that information is.

  • @weirdwinx1 off course Mary was the devil and Elizabreh a Saint!!

  • @weirdwinx1 if mary had been evil with her sister, she never would have allowed Elizabeth in the line of succession. she would not have hesitated to send elizabeth to decapitate......

  • this actress makes me like her... but she was so evil, i feel so bad for her..

  • Sarah Bolger really does a great job portraying how kind Mary Tudor could be. She was willing to be a mother to Elizabeth and Edward when their awful father murdered Anne Boleyn and when Jane Seymour sadly passed. Mary truly did care for her siblings and for her father. It's such a shame that it was her father who made Mary so cruel and cold.

  • Henry Fitzroy, a bastard, usurped her claim to the throne. Then she was declared a bastard herself before being separated from her mother. Starved of her father's love, she was demoted to a simple maid for a spoiled younger sister while having to watch as queen after queen passed by (some nicer than others) as she was isolated and alone bar a few loyal individuals. And then her own brother attempted to keep her from the throne.

And people wonder why she wasn't as good a queen as Elizabeth...

  • I suppose Mary was ok with Elizabeth at first even though she despised her mother. Bout Elizabeth hadn't done anything to her so Mary didn't have any reason to be mean to her sister. However when Edward was King, religion was torn left right and centre and Mary lost trust with both her siblings and poisoned herself against ELizabeth, that's why she held her in the tower

  • To be honest, if times were different and Mary, Elizabeth, and Edward were not born into this struggle of Kingship and royalty, things would have been vastly different for all of them, they would have been normal siblings.

  • That's right Mary loved Jane Seymour, because she was a catholic and because she was kind to her, and after the treatment of Anne Boleyn and her father, she needed all the kindness she could get. If she had only used that in her ruling, the love of the people, she would've been loved like Elizabeth was loved. Mary- a tragic figure in history who is overlooked as all evil, but she wasn't.

  • @mckfrr this is very true. but a big reason mary loved jane so much was because jane encouraged henry to treat her well and add her to the line of succession to the throne, which he did end up doing

  • @mckfrr This is beautifully put. Mary was not evil at all. She was not all bad and Elizabeth was not all good. It is too bad that she didn't take after Jane's example (or her actual mother's in some ways) in her own reign.

  • Too bad Edward becomes an arrogant little smartmouth who made his sister cry later on his reign. Elizabeth and Mary were so much better than his little spoiled self, but it's not Edward's fault really, because he was influenced by his father and uncles.

  • @mckfrr But in the end, Edward was unable to cause further harm cuz she had Charles V of Spain to back her up. Yeah, I think that the Seymours were afraid tt she would fight for the throne which she didn't. Maybe, it's because of Jane Seymour that she decided not to.

  • @JuzTudor70AD I think it's rather ironic. Jane Seymour was a devoted Catholic, just like Mary's mother. I think Jane's grace in the face of the king's neglect and her piety reminded Mary of her mother. Edward became a devoted Protestant, rather like Anne Boleyn. I think that Mary was upset by that,.

  • @JuzTudor70AD Mary didn't fight for her throne??!?! Where the heck are you getting that from? Read Mary Tudor, Princess, Bastard, Queen or type in Mary Tudor -- accession to the throne -- 1553 up at the top. Mary garnered an army behind her back in a total epic "I dare you to f*ck with me," stand off.

  • @EnglishRose719 Written by ppl who wanted to defame her.

  • @EnglishRose719 Yep and she had the 9 days Queen Jane Grey and her co-horts executed for high treason, restored Stephen Gardiner (who was imprisoned) as a Bishop (he was the one who placed the crown on her head).

  • @JuzTudor70AD back her? i thought he was just using her to annex england into spain's empire

  • @bookworm1138 I meant 'back her' in the sense tt she was allowed to practise her Catholic faith despite the full-force of Edward VI's Protestant reign. And yes, I also agree with you abt Charles V of Spain using her for the interests of his own country.I bet he wasn't pleased when he discovered her decision not to challenge Edward VI for the throne after their father's death

  • where did Mary say she was going to return to, to live in the countryside? Was it Hampstead she said?

  • I don't know the real story of Mary Tudor, but I do know that I feel so sorry for her!!, she was a true heir of Katherine of Aragon, and like her mother she was a very religous woman!, I think a lote of people don't give Mary credit at all, she and her mother sufered so much because of what Henry did!!, she tried ever bit of her power as queen to help her people because of what father did over the years of his ruling!, I love Mary, and her story is truly sad!!, -_~

  • You'r e not the only one, I felt sorry for Mary, too, but she was trying to force Elizabeth to give up her religion just like her father did, she should've known what Elizabeth was feeling, it was not right, as for Edward, I think he was spoiled and he was raised to be his father's religion, Mary was simply born in a different time. Mary and Elizabeth suffered the most, but it made them both strong.

  • @mckfrr but the difference was, that Mary did not consider another possibility to save your soul to be Catholic, to Henry and Elizabeth was a matter of state rather than faith...

She was convinced that at the eyes of God she was right...

Henry manipulated the religion matters to his convenience

  • Sometimes I feel I am the only one who loves and feels sorry for Mary. I cannot believe how compassionate she was toward Edward and Elizabeth, and yet they simply did not return the favor: Edward arrested her priests and attempted to keep her from attending Mass, and while Elizabeth may or may not have plotted against her, she certainly made fun of her in private. As for Philip, he treated the poor woman like chattel. She did not deserve this.

  • Dont worry, i love mary too =)

She lived a very sad life.

  • @ligreekguy Oh actually I adore Mary because I see how victimized she was by everything from her father, to her brother to her husband.

  • I totally agree.

  • @ligreekguy

You are not alone, I also feel for Mary even more so than Elizabeth

Mary was the one who saw their father become a monster and she could trust no one except God and her faith

  • @PiperFreeze06

    Thank you, PiperFreeze06!

  • @ligreekguy

    you're welcome!

  • @ligreekguy if she had been a man no one had questioned, his father was a monster but because he was a man nobody named he "bloody"

  • I love how Mary doesn't mind bringing her little sister Elizabeth with her to her estate in the countryside!!!!!!

  • history has always been unfair to mary i of england. most say that she was very ruthless. but when elizabeth i was queen she put to death hundreds of catholics, more than the number of people mary i through secular authorities put to death. long live mary i!!!!

  • Mary and Elizabeth were close and not most days they loved each other some days the throne became between them

  • aw, Edward's so beautiful!

  • i love mary in this serise, i was never too fond of her in real life tho

  • I luv the actress protraying Mary Tudor. She's beautiful and talented.

  • @JuzTudor70AD she sure is. yummy.

  • Poor Mary Tudor. I'm no huge fan of a heretic-burning queen, but in the end, it's sad that life (read, Henry) denied her the love she deserved. By all accounts she really seems to have cared for Elizabeth while she was a young woman, the daughter of the woman she must have hated more than anyone else. That says a lot for her.

Thank you for posting this great clip!

  • Yes, Indeed. If Mary had her mother to guide her, she would have become a better Queen. By caring for Elizabeth, it showed how gracious & compassionate she was despite what she went through, it's too bad tt politics & reglious conflicts drove the sisters apart.

  • We are going to solve this she whore business. If Anne was a whore then so was Jane. Jane did the EXACT same thing that anne did except she knew how to keep her mouth shut. I love both Anne and Jane. So leave both be. :-D

  • Mary wanted to her brothers when they were little. Years later, Mary and Elizabeth were rivals.

  • this video is about the henry`s son, edward

  • I think Mary hated Anne and not Elizabeth. She hated Elizabeth's status before Anne Boleyn's death and not Elizabeth herself.

  • Mary hated Elizabeth ONLY when mary wes Queen and Elizabeth would be possibly the next queen bud when Elizabeth was young she carring of her

  • Mary never hated Elizabeth, ever she cared greatly for her even when the accusations against Elizabeth were being made during Mary's Reign.

  • Actually, Mary raised Elizabeth and they got along until they got older ^^

  • No, this video showed who Mary truly was before she became Queen of England. The person that she truly hated was Anne Boleyn, not Elizabeth. Mary loved her sister, but her first stepmother didn't see it that way. Anne treated her badly and banished her from court because she refused to recognize her as Queen and kept reffering her mother, Catherine of Aragon as Queen of England.

Whereas, Jane Seymour was much nicer to Mary and restored her place at court. She named her, Edward's godmother.

  • I agree with you, ladyfire44. It's too bad that when Henry died, Edward was influenced by those who were against Mary, hence, straining their relationship. Sighz, the tragic ill-fate of royal siblings

  • true

  • Mary never hated Elizabeth..she had the oportunity of kill her sister when she was a queen and she refuse sing the execution..what do you say?!!

  • you call imprisoning your sister love?

  • she couldn't sign it. it would have meant mass rebellion.

  • come on! what rebelion! if more of 80 % of people still remains catholics in England!

She really refused kill her sister...but you see only that you want see..then...whatever

  • elizabeth was beloved by that point, by much of england. and mary had been killing lots of protestants. elizabeth was looked to as a rallying point. i'm not saying that mary was a bad person, i'm just saying she had no real option when it came to elizabeth. and just because i disagree with you doesn't mean i only see what i want to see. we;d all like to think the best of the ones we like the most.

  • how many people are catholic in England nowadays?

  • Now? everybody! because the past week, the vatican had acepted the anglicans again like catholics! hahaha...

  • really? what was the difference in the first place ? :S (sorry i'm a bit curious..i'm from Peru)

  • yo tb soy de peru, creo que los anglicanos si dejan que los curas se casen

  • why are you laughing?

  • you are biased towards Catholic and Spanish sources, both of which are misogynist.

  • @evaperonfan I live in catholic country and the women had the same rights than men..

An dwaht about the cuaqers or the women in the sixities in USA?

    come on!

  • Little Edward is SOOO cute!:D Really sad that Jane died though:( coz she was like a second mother to Mary, Jane was actually kind to her unlike Anne.

  • jane seymor was a whore and i like mary but if she hadnt been so stubborn and accepted anne as queen i beleve anne would of been very kind and loving to her

  • To britndjustinfan1012 - Jane Seymour was most certainly not a whore. How dare you! So, because Mary didn't accept Anne as Queen, the horrible treatement she suffered, is justified? Not in the slightest. Anne even wished death on Katherine and her poor daughter!

  • yes she was a whore she knew that anne and henry where very much in love she used her looks to get him! ahe never loved him like anne did she also never showed as much favor to elizabeth then yet she was all about how kind she was and then she knew her relationship with henry was the reason anne would yet did she do a thing to try and stop him no she did not.

  • Anne knew Katherine and Henry were in love, but she did the same exact thing. What's the difference?

  • umm mayne the fact that katherine and henry wernt in love. jane NEVER loved henry anne did and henry loved anne so much more she didnt sleep with him for seven years while he was with katherine jane did not she was a WHORE and that is it. she si also the reson anne died and elizabeth never had a mother so much for her being kind

  • yes, sure Anne "loved" Henry! come on! she only loved power!

  • Come on!

You should read more books. Definitely.

Everybody knows that Anne really fell in love with Henry.

  • yes , absolutely agree with you all of us need read more books....!

About Anne..whats books you suggest me...protestants books or catholics books about Saint Anne bolein?

  • Anne Boleyn wasn't Saint. I also think that she really loved Henry. I'm Catholic from Poland and I respect all Henry's wives. I like Anne Boleyn and I don't like when people call her whore or witch. She was killed without the reason. I think that nobody deserve to die. That say my religion. Sorry, I don't write in English very well.

  • why do you hate Anne Boleyn so much?

  • @evaperonfan the catholics and thr resto of decend world hate Anne beacuase she broke a familiy and condemnd an incocent woman and and inocent child to the dead and shame and persecution, only for her ambition

  • What do you mean decent world? The Anglo saons don't hate Anne. Anne helped speed up the Protestant Reformation, and changed the history of England forever. If you were truly a feminist, you would appreciate Anne, but you're not. You say you're a feminist, but you blame Anne for Henry's actions, which are the actions of a misogynist. You're not a feminist at all! Protestant countries give women far more rights than Catholic countries do. Marianismo demeans women.

  • Shut up! Anne Boleyn was a great woman, and Katharine of Aragon and Jane Seymour did squat!

  • um...i beg to differ on both counts...CoA defeated the Scots in Henry's place while Regent during his time in France at war and Jane produced the son Henry yearned for, not to mention reconciling his daughters with him. They made all the difference in the world, however minute it seems. Taking my personal views out of it, astrofabio has a point. in a way, she had persecuted a queen and her child in their own right for some personal gain and didn't feel bad about it. We got Bess 4m her though, nb.

  • You're right, i forgot about CoA defeating the Scots. But I don't think Jane had much of a role in history. If she had given birth to a daughter, Henry would not have 'loved' her so.

  • LOL...Well, why do you think Henry was so respectfully scared of CoA so badly? By defeating the Scots, she proved that she had just as much skill at leading a militia as her mother Queen Isabel! Yeah, sure. She could ask her nephew for help, but Henry knew that if she asked the people of England to fight for her, I'm pretty sure they would have. I agree with you on the daughter thing, too. He wouldn't have loved her as much either, but she DID have Edward, so she does get a lil bit of credit.

  • Yeah, I'd forgotten about what CoA did. But honestly, Jane just got lucky. I don't hate her though, since she was kind to Mary and Elizabeth.

  • @evaperonfan LOL...exactly! True, Jane's role doesn't seem too big, but bearing the much yearned for England's male heir put her on Henry's Eternal Pedestal...Not that his vote counts very much. And yeah, she was good to both girls, so I don't begrudge her that post on Henry's Royal Notch of women he married.

  • don't insult katherine of aragon. she was a great and kind woman in her demour and i find it laughable that u would say such things. do u study history? plus katherine's mother Isabella of castile was once fierce woman which is where Katherine gets her strong willed behavior from and her father ferninand equally as strong willed. they brought all of spain together. stop being such a vile hater. as for jane i she was kind to all of henrys kids which is more then can be said of anne.

  • @fleurgi not worth discussing here the majority are ignorant, racist and fundamentalist who speak only because watching TV but they have never studied anything

  • @evaperonfan umm not really sure what you are trying to say. coz i am pretty sure you commented on another video saying mary tudor was a saint and anne boleyn should have been burned.

  • Comment removed

  • Beg to differ, evaporonfan Katherine of Aragon defeated the scots and Jane reconciled Henry with his daughters.

  • well, KoA did a lot, yeah. But Jane didn't do much at all.

  • Yes, she didn't do a heap of stuff, but she reconciled Mary and Henry. I think she deserves credit for that, because she showed Mary what she wanted for a long time- a little kindness.

  • @evaperonfan katherine of aragon was the rightful queen, she was there in the first place. anne put katherine through hell, exiled and not allowed to see her daughter. i like anne, but she had it coming. nuff said.

  • also i never said that what hapopend to mary was like i said i like her but if she had of just accepted anne as queen like she did jane than anne would of been kind to her

  • I agree. Jane was not a whore though, and neither was Anne. The whore was Henry.

  • yes yes yes! thats the statement thats sooo true! i agree completely. henry was the greatest whore!!

  • I agree. Henry had six wives and God knows how many mistresses, yet Anne and Jane are called whores when they probably only slept with Henry(who was their husband!)

  • amen to that.

  • Um....I think you are missing one fact.

If Henry had loved Anne so much, I very much doubt that he would have ordered her death.

  • henry killed her because he didnt want anyone else to have her i didnt see him tear apart a country for any of his other wives.and he knew that if he didnt order her death (even though she was inocent) there would be heaps of problems

  • I dunno. I still have a hard time believing that Henry really loved anyone. (Except himself, that is. :P )

  • he was a selfish basterd but i believe the only people he truly cared for where his children anne and charles brandon

  • i agree!

  • well he is a fucking psycopath with a personality problem. he tells girls what they wanna her and charms his way into there hearts truly for the shear joy he must have in conquering a challenge.

  • I wonder why she inquired about Sir Francis, he was a jerk to her haha

  • Out of politeness, I guess.,,

  • Poor Mary..an unhappy woman all her life, she was unable to reign in peace...

    she has everything against her.

  • Lovely Mary...! she really loved her familiy...but all the terribles and sad events tha she should live..become her in a very sad and fanatic woman...

I'm feel sorry for her..she was a victim of her times...

  • @astrofabio68 she did love her brother... but truth b told she hated elizabeth with a burning passion. she considered her an unfortunate result of "a witch" "casting a spell" on her father. it has been said that mary had at one time been so cruel to elizabeth by telling her when anne boleyn was buried, the coffin was too small so they simply let the detached head lay on annes body

  • @CircusZoneTV oh! you have time machine and listen taht?? my god! where is that crap?? all the bad things about Mary are true, becuase she was catholic and mid spanish but all the same things about Elizabeth are lies! be more objective please !

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that the same Lady Bryan who was so horrible to Mary when Lady Bryan was head of Elizabeth's household? Good of Mary to treat her with politeness after all that happened.:D

  • she was not horrible, she treated Lady Mary like all the others, as a bastard; and Mary was so glad to be back in favour, i think she had learned that she could not afford pride, the worls is a slippery place

  • love lady mary videos! THX!
