Living in a van weeds out the girls you don't need in your life. If they can't appreciate you for who you are and the dreams your chasing and accomplishing while living in a van, then they are not the type of girls I need in my life. Simply done.
Yes! The tackle boxes are key to success of westy life. There is lots of storage to be had in a westy, but it's complicated storage so you have to be creative on how you organize! The flat wide tackle boxes are awesome for the cabinets. You can stack 3-4 on top of each other easily. For electricity I have the auxiliary battery set up under the driver seat. I never have dead starter batteries any more. I very rarely plug into shore power. And I guess I don't really use that much power anyways.
@calicathy, I have been working on getting some tackle boxes together with my vital's like a shower kit, kitchen kit and a first aid. I have yet to find a solution for electricity, thinking of some sort of solar setup. I want to find something powerful enough to make it worthwhile. I have found that making the westy super organized is going to be key in making this work. Im departing northern california end of march to begin my travels. For now down its santa cruz and highway 1 on weekend trips.
@drgrinspoon100 a good size gel battery and a 250 watt panel will probably be as big as the van can carry.gel because they can be used indoors. but a good sunny would have the battery charged to full.
I sleep in my van almost every day. I've been off work most of the year and it has saved a lot of money, not to mention provided a lot of adventures. Vans are spacious enough. If a person enjoys this means of living, who is a person to judge? I have so many well off friends who said they would love to give up all the stuff (and debt) and lead a more simple life!
Well, #1, be comfortable and confident with your decision to live in your van. I did it because I wanted to, not because I HAD to. #2, be organized. Invest in equipment that will help you stay organized and live comfortable. ie; rocket box, propane heater, battery charger, inverter, tackle box organizers, mattress topper, good sleeping bag. I started living in my van while I still had a full time job and was easy to fund these items. I have a storage unit that I use as a "home base" for other i
Nice set up dude! Im looking to get on the road as well, hopefully finding work as I go. I have an 85 westy here in northern california. Wondering financially the right way to go about doing this.Any tips for someone starting out? Do you spend a lot actually maintaining the van? I can't wait for the freedom and letting go and less of the "material" things.
@drgrinspoon100, I'm in northern cali too, just got my van and am excited about fixing it up for some adventures. I might even end up living in it, still undecided. Mine is an 87. I love this whole idea, now I am just searching for the right items to add to the van to make it more suitable for long term living. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
As for the question on westy vs full size van. The westy is a great package deal ready to go. It's compact, very maneuverable. They cabinetry is a godsend for storing all the daily needs and keeping everything organized. The westy also provides a pop top which allows you to stand up and move around the cabin. I'm six foot and with my top popped I can stand with my hands fully extended upward and not touch the ceiling. Maybe I will post a video showing this aspect. I do like the idea of a full
Hey guys, thanks for the comments. Sorry for the delayed response. I like to park my home at Wal Mart when I'm around town. It sounds funny but I find the parking lot rather "homey". I'm doing this in my home town so I have several friends and family members with an "open driveway policy" where I can park for an evening or two. It all depends on what I'm doing. Thats what's great about the freedom of van living. The key is to blend in where ever you go. As for the question on westy vs full siz
Hey man, nice video! Been thinking about doing van living as well, so it's nice to see others like you with vids like these! I'm in the process of sourcing a used Roadtrek 190popular Class B motorhome..at my height, VW's like yours is just too small for my 6'5" frame! Cheers!
@RogueRVer living in a van is not like living in a rv. i could see moving into a rv by choice but living in a van theirs something wrong with this guy.
@ssj4goko4 - why does the choice of vehicle make it seem either logical (RV) or insane (Van)...the size of the enclosure doesn't matter if the goal is to live 'free' from paying rent/mortgage or just wanting to 'live free'..? Just curious is all!
I HIGHLY doubt your truck camper could compare to say a Class B Roadtrek RS Adventurous..but seeing as there is no way to prove it one way or another, feel free to stand by your opinion
@ssj4goko4 i have a stove oven microwave 2 beds tv bathroom and shower.look them up bought every rv maker makes them. that smokes most people van setups and i get it for 800$.
Nice set up. I'm trying to get to this lifestyle as well of living out of a van. Everybody that i see doing it lives out of a westy. I was thinking of giving it a go with a less expensive set up like in a one of those ford work vans. Do you think that would be a mistake or do you think it's possible? I think the westy is well off but i think the 2 advantages I'd have is i could design my van however i want on the inside and it's more stealth for city living. The van would be less to buy as well.
nice but every other AAM word AAM is AAmm
