Is this like an alternative ending? I'm so damn confused. I've seen a COMPLETELY different ending of this film watching it on TV! In that one, Adele accepts that her daughter is back in life and she sacrificed herself so she goes back to the "underworld" and takes a nap with Ebrill on a bed, in belief it's her daughter. At least that's what I remember. Or did I miss something??
Good movie. I was surprised at the ending, but it made sense. The daughter pictured her mom dead, that's what she pictured. Lovely girl, isn't she?
Yeah this is like Silent Hill where the mother goes through another world to find her daughter, but in Silent Hill both the mom and daughter couldn't get back, but here just the brat gets back to the real world.
And, of course, Sean Bean is dad in both movies. I've seen him in a dozen other movies.
The evil girl wanted to live a normal life so she took the place of sarah Since sarah was dead. And the mom killed herself since she thought that would save her daughter, but instead it brought the evil one back, and the father of that evil one wanted the evil girl to stay with him. so since Adele released her the shepard (father) is now going to torture Adele (also because Adele was in hell). What a happy ending, dont you think?
The ending could not have been better. You have no clue how happy I am that that blonde woman died and that little girl won. I showed th biggest smile ever.

The mom almost got her daughter back,however when the father shows up at the cliff scene, the spirit girl changes her mind and decides not to go back. the big mistake was on the moms part, she should never have gone over the cliff. the lesson is don't follow like sheep...
it was good for a movie that had so many scary moments to have one instance of humor

adelle thinks that by jumping off with ebril she can bring sarah back, instead only kills herself as ebril emerges unharmed. why not just throw ebril off?
I don't get why James doesn't search for Adele (or her body) the way he did for that vicious little bitch of a daughter. He just jumps into the car and takes off, all "Oh, well, got my horrible kid back, la dee da..."
The ending and the logic of it blows. I read that changes were made to the movie so that it turned out differently than what the director intended. It would be nice if there was a director's cut, but I doubt that will happen.
This movie is a testimony of a mother's love to her child. Itsa good and interesting movie. It feels like a S. Night movie, not a horror movie, but a thinking man/woman movie.

The spirit tricked Adelle into doing something that would end her up in that particular hell - killing a child and herself.
That way, she stayed and replaced the spirit, and the spirit was free to return in Sarah's body.
My take is: in the end she's stuck where the evil spirits go. That's why none of the people who jumped are down there. They killed themselves, but not others. They're sacrifice physically brought the Ebrill back, but they brought back the evil spirit with her. The father lead them to their deaths, so when he was pushed in he had to stay there. Ebrill pushed her father in, so when she was dumped into those waves, she had to stay there.
It would suck for being in Adeles place in the end.
I just watched this from cable and I was really surprised of what finally happened. At the early parts of this film I wasn´t too interested, but it went better all the time towards the end.

If Sarah's body survived and not her spirit, then what happened to Sarah's spirit?
Not only that, but where was Sarah's body all this time? They never showed her fall into the water.

On the alternate ending on the DVD, it shows that Sarah is in Ebrill's body, which is still in the underworld.
