Of course they wouldn't tell Shamu's REAL story: brutally captured and sold, mother harpooned, and the people who did it get leadership positions at Seaworld.
For the record, they started this show in San Diego well before Dawn's death (and the 2010 orca deaths). So no, this is not a "knee jerk" reaction to the negative press that SW received in light of these deaths, as some of you are claiming. They're just bringing the show to another one of their parks.
Sounds like a knee-jerk reaction to all the deaths they've been suffering lately. Nice job Sea World. I wonder if they'll provide incorrect information like "wild orcas only live for 25 years in the wild". Hah. Explain that to the 90+ wild orca.
yeaaaaaaaaa, SeaWorld shows are going to be educational again... oh wait... this is in San Antonio... i hope SeaWorld San Diego follows suite .... most of the shows there are just nonsense now (Princesses and fairies). I miss the old educational shows that actually taught something. thank you SASEAWORLD for posting this.
@namuchildtake2 lol... i was just told this on the SWC facebook page. apparently those special shows are only for off season. I went in the Summer, and the Shamu show i saw was the one about a young boy trying to find his lost whale necklace. I guess I need to go to SeaWorld in the off season to see the good shows.
@iberry Funny that you didn't even pay attention to the original show you saw. It had nothing to do with "finding a lost whale necklace" the only necklace part was him carving it as a representation of what he loved.
@Elodee123 is guess i am just old school... i like simple... at SeaWorld one does not need all the TV computer magic... the whales themselves are the real magic... I know SeaWorld has to make money selling those darn whale necklaces at the end of the show.. I just miss the way it was... the new Shamu show, i guess is ok... however, that new dolphin show Blue Horizon, is yuck! and where are the dolphins?... it is all human entertainment now, like a Vegas show.
@iberry I agree with you 100%. The dolphin show especially is just 2 jumps by dolphins then the rest all pure human entertainment. It's funny how you mention Vegas shows.. that's where I live :) Honestly, I'd like it better if their show was purely education; Not entertainment.
@Elodee123 oh my gosh... too funny... I live in Las Vegas too... that is probably why i am sick of the Vegas type shows (so many of those Cirque du Solei shows here)... SeaWorld San Diego was my happy place of escape from Vegas. I am not saying the Vegas shows are bad...but if you live here...when you go on a actual Vacation...you want to see something different. i miss 80's SeaWorld, ...sigh... maybe it is just a sign of the times how things change.

There is a very real danger to believing the message of zoos
and aquariums. If we pretend that we can learn about animals by
watching them in these human-created compounds of cement and
steel, then we are saying that natural habitats are irrelevant. And if
the animals’ natural context is implicitly presented as unimportant,
then zoos are actually contradicting the message they claim to affirm,
that environmental conservation is a pressing concern.-The Captivity Industry

@FreedomForOrcas This is San Antonio, and they've had no deaths this year, actually.

@missnoodles996 - I meant Sea World in general. San Antonio is under the same company as the others.
