  • 240p we meet again

  • Saw her at Glyndbourne in 2004, magical.I've been in love ever since.

  • Saw her at Glyndbourne in 2004, magical.I've been in love ever since.

  • meeting her next week. hell to the yes

  • My choir teacher said when she was younger, she was in an opera called Carmen. She played Carmen. So,I looked up the Opera.Oh my.

  • As a life-long fan of Callas, I still enjoy listening to other people's renditions of Habanera, but am often surprised, even saddened that those other performances are quickly dismissed as 'not being as good as Callas' - its about the song not the singer.

  • @methuselus Well said. So many people on you tube hear one singer and get obsessed with one singer be it Callas or Pavarotti. They cheat themselves out of experiencing different voices and different interpretations and much of the music - nobody can sing everything. Most importantly, opera is meant to be experienced in the theaters, and operatic voices - unamplified. BTW - from what I've heard on you tube Rinat Shaham is the best Carmen today (although I do like Garanca whom I heard live).

  • \/ what he said

  • like her boobs ....and the performence...

  • L'amour est une oiseaux rebelle je pense...

  • great voice, but nothing like maria callas.

  • @ppp3mmm You could say that about lots of singers, but why bother making the comparison? What could possibly be gained from that? Hell, Callas never even performed Carmen (she sung some of the arias in recital, but she never performed the whole thing) Shaham isn't trying to be Callas - their voices are worlds apart, Personally, i don't even like Callas that much - don't get me wrong, she was great in some roles, but her recordings aren't a go-to solution for every single opera out there.

  • @incandescentsmile Well said.

  • that chick is fine

  • @hellraidzor indeed

  • @hellraidzor indeed

  • hermoso

  • Hola, hijos de todo el maiz, miren si sera mas que justa esta vidorria, el hecho de que exista en esta noble vida, la señora, Rinat Shaham, es en verdad maravilloso, que voz, que interpretacion, que señora.

  • this song is La Habanera of Carmen (Bizet).

Rinat Shaham was made the best version of Carmen. Bravo Rina!!

  • Amazing~ Love this piece.

  • Wow what a GREAT Carmen! Stunning voice.

  • Awesome! TY

  • The original story comes from Seville ,Spain.Carmen is a gypsy girl .

  • She sings and acts the part perfectly. And may I say that she is a beautiful woman, which is only appropriate if one is playing a leading role in a drama about a woman men would kill for.

  • what does the red rose symbolizes?

  • @blacksultan85 a red rose symbolizes "love." :) Here is a better definition and may make you understand more as to why it is important in this opera: Red roses are the traditional symbol for love and romance, and a time-honored way to say "I love you." The red rose has long symbolized beauty and perfection.

  • @operagirl81 thank you so much for telling me that COOL i ask someone on you tube she ignore me but i knew i'd get someone here to explain to me because those red roses on any lady they always look top notch and PERFECT DIVAS that's a turn on for me LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I saw her last night- she's amazing!

  • @peacepinkpig kooooool

  • I saw her sing Carmen at Glyndbourne in 2004. One of the best nights of my life. So far.

  • She was born to be Carmen.

  • Her voice is AMAZING! Carmen is my favourite opera.

  • she's a bit dramatic but altogether a stunning Carmen!

  • why yall lookin at her ass gayasses? haha lol

  • haha The guy on her right is like "oh she's hot"

  • @BrightTigerSpirit lol, that's sort of the point.

  • Haha Joshua Kohl is gonna play as Don Jose in this opera At lake george opera in florida. He's pretty cool, all the girls say he's hot. Im like wtf he's a guy singing

  • This has to be one of my favorite Arias and she sings it so beautifully.

  • Who can tell me what is she singing? :P

    lyrics please =)

  • @chengsiong0903 The exact lyrics aren't too important, but the general gist of it is that just prior to singing this aria, all the men around her asked her when she'd love them, and she proceeds to sing this aria whose opening line is "love is like a bird, it is flighty and hard to catch, but never stays around very long" (I'm paraphrasing). The aria basically introduces Carmen as a fem-fatal who uses her good looks to get men to do what she wants and then leaves them.

  • @Loismustdie26 oh...

  • @0:34 - Woman... now, I am become your slave.

  • wonderfull

  • her acting is simply amazing! you don't need to understand the lyrics perfectly, her expressions and movements show everything that is written!! XD

  • I've loved opera since I was a mere child I grew up with it but I have to say this is one of my favorites.

  • Bravo

  • She's such a great actress too!

  • wow this is amazing!

  • The more I hear this lady the more I like what I hear, hope she goes far and stays with us by singing the right roles for her fine Mezzo. BRAVA from Chicago!

  • I saw an amazing French indie movie of "Carmen". It blue me away. At the end when he is asked if he had the choice to go back and change his life, would he? Just as he is about to be excecuted he says "Of course not". Wow.

  • What was the name of the movie? I know there is a South African version but I've never heard of a French version. What year was it?

  • Sorry. i can't remember. It was a long time ago that I saw it. It might have been Spanish not French, but I think it was French. It was modern though, it would have been made in the 2000s sometime. It was named "Carmen".

  • I looked it up. It was Spanish. The book is French which is what Bizet's opera is based on. I didn't remember it being released here in France. But they have French language, Basque and Spanish. I'll check it out if I can find it. Thanks. Sounds interesting.

  • It's a Spanished themed opera written by a French composer. The compser's name is George Bizet.

  • Sexy Mezzo and a fine voice. Brava!

  • French opera about a spanish girl and so sung in french, bizet was french, he wrote it about a spanish girl who winds up dead, killed by her lover.

  • Comment removed

  • Carmen is Spanish. The entire play is set in Spain, but the play is French.

  • i thought carmen was spanish

  • Possibly the best version of this part of ''Carmen'' on youtube ,bravo Rinat Shaham !!

  • @lovemetu it's like carlsberg to Opera world :D

  • @DucklingShakespeare

Yes to me and it seems many others Rinat Shaham is the top 'Carmen' at present .

I had not looked at this video for a long time, so I am astonished that my comment above which I made 11 months ago has had 165 thumbs up, very nice that people agreed that she is so wonderful in this role , so once again I will say ''Bravo Rinat Shaham'' !!

  • Bravíssimo!!!

  • awesome!

  • good job carmen

  • Comment removed

  • Shaham is the BEST CARMEN of her generation! Brava!!!

  • no, his name is georges bizet

  • it's a bautiful song... really cute and so autentic...!! I like the part when she uses her lower registers to sing too!!!

    X3

  • I like your comment, I think its pretty accurate. Also, 7 (and more) out of 10 times Carmen is a soprano, which is not nice, since this role is written for a mezzo.

Bravo Shaham! 5 stars of course!!

  • the name is: habanera opera Carmen - Georges Biszet :)

  • Woo Hooo 400,000 and climbing

  • what is name of this song?

  • Habanera

  • @Karla201708 Carmen

  • @Karla201708 you noob it's the title

  • @Karla201708 -It is not a song, but an aria. It is from the opera Carmen by Bizet and is called Habanera.

  • @Karla201708 L'amour Est Un Oiseau Rebelle

  • @Karla201708 L'amour Est Un Oiseau Rebelle

  • HI thank you for sharing this beautiful video. I love that song. it is interpreted with such a professional style. GRAZIE.

  • Супер!!!!!!!!Очень красива!!!!Вокал 5+!

  • I love Seville, I'm a Sevillano by inheritance, I hope to visit that glorious city for the first time.

  • I like the part when she uses her lower registers to sing... such a rich sound...

  • Habanera was typical song when Cuba was a part Spain Colonial before 1898. The Habanera was imported to Spain for people was in Cuba at the last moment, The Habaneras are typical song in Spain in differents areas, Andalucia, Levante and Catalunya also, it´s very nice when we sing some habaneras near the beach and we drink coffe & run

  • Best Carmen on Youtube!

  • Wonderful display of Habenera

  • Habanera is a genre of music that originated in cuba. But this opera was written by a frenchman "Bizet" and the story setting is in Seville, Spain.

    for: colombianizo43

  • I love it !!!!!!!!

  • wow this girl is getting a lot of Youtube views! We saw her sing a while back and it's truly amazing

  • I find it equally absurd, embarrassing and funny that so many asked if this was in English. I mean, a child could hear that it was not English and most adults, even with no language skills, should be able to pick up that it is French and know, in fact, that CARMEN, although written in French by Bizet, a Frenchman, takes place in Spain. Wow are we in the US have a shrinking intellect, yet no one seems to care. This version was just amazing, emotional, acted well and sung superbly. Brava!

  • I thought the habanera was based on Havana Cuba, not spain

  • I'd give you 10 thumbs up if I could for that comment!

  • прекрасно!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I really like this song...i wish i knew what they were saying or at least here it in English ..the closest that i got to that was Elmo's bed time story on sesame street! lol..but it sounded so good I love it

  • Es fantástica!

  • I speak English and couldn't understand any of the words from Handel's Messiah. I think it's just the opera sound.
