Saw this one in Toronto. Floor seats, awesome show start to finish, I stood next to a man who was dragged there by a friend. He told me nobody could come close to Pink Floyd in a live concert and he was "not going to be impressed" by Bruce's performance. By the guitar solo at the end of this song he turned to me and yelled in my ear "Unbelievable. Unbelievable." At the end he told me "the hair on the back of my neck is standing up from that performance. I have chills from it." Me too.
2 Questions: What instrument is Nils Lofgren playing about one minute into the song before he switched to guitar? Dobro, or banjo? Also, who wrote this song? Was this only for concert or did Springsteen write or adapt it? I'd appreciate an answer to each if anyone knows! Thanks.
@Sonofmothernature thanks! I see this song, and the performance even of fairly old songs Bruce wrote with a new complexity in the arrangements. There's a great YT video of Darkness on the edge of Town showing a different guitar than his past standard Telecasters too. Great performance. Usually musicians have sort of a shelf life & then the songwriting well dries up, but not for Springsteen's band.
@wingseclipsed Neither, its a banjitar - sounds like a banjo but is six stringed so its played like a guitar. Also this was written by Bruce and can be found on his 202 album The Rising.
i never thought that bruce would do this song in concert. i was not sure his voice could handle the aaaahhhaahh,,,,,but it was great and to watch him pour so much energy into this song is beyond any scale. brillant lyrics and sound...thats why he's the BOSS
@TheJohnny990 mumford and sons...listen to the cave ...... dont get me wrong...bruce is the inspiration that keeps me going from day to day but the banjo could have been used more then it was
i expect bruce to be around along time. each album exploring and reaching pass the limits. i do not watch or listen to any song or show that has hand clapping but watching the sweat pour off his hands is a real turn on for me. he always shows such emotion in his face while singing. luv bruce!!!

@wingseclipsed Lofgren is playing a six-string banjo. The song is written by Springsteen and can be found on his 2002 album "The Rising". :-)

The E street band is so cool. No other band would have a song that has a banjo and an insane guitar solo in one song. Bruce has so much energy

I hold you in my arms, yeah that's when it starts
I seek faith in your kiss and comfort in your heart
I taste the seed upon your lips, lay my tongue upon your scars
But when I look into your eyes we stand worlds apart
