I believe these shoes to be from two seperate pairs. The shoes in the Smithsonian NMAH are also two different shoes. I speculate there might be two proper pairs between the four shoes.

I believe the shoes in this video must have used in the skipping and dancing numbers. The yellow brick road was painted plywood. The orange felt reduced the noise her shoes made on the floor. Both the toes and heels were covered. They used orange because it is the color between red and yellow and the orange would not be visible to the technicolor cameras.

As you view this video you will notice that on the bottom of these shoes there is a layer of orange attached. It is uncertain how many pairs of these shoes were made for the film, however the most accepted number is 6. 5 pairs were for Judy Garland. 1 pair was made to fit Miss Garland's stand-in. 1 pair was made for the close-up shots. That pair was kept in perfect condition durning the shoot.

My Father (an Actor ) passed up a chance to buy a pair of ruby slippers at an MGM sale in the 70's (nice going pops) Instead purchasing a wardrobe van with the Lion Logo on the side. He also claimed to have lent James Dean his red Windbreaker after a conga class on a very rainy NY evening,never got it back and Jimmy wore it in "Rebel without a cause"! - the wardrobe dept. obviously made duplicates,but the original was my Dads.

they used burgandy shoes rather than bright red, apparently they bright red looked pink and orange on the camera. They used burgundy shoes and clear sequins to get the red look on camera

@RaysonPaulTancasis There are 5 pairs of original Ruby Slippers from the movie. The stolen pair has not yet been recovered. These are a seperate pair that were used in the film, and they were never lost :D

Only if Fairy Dust would have had them already to go before you bought them. This isn't a massed produced product, some would call it an art. It takes a lot of time to make ruby slippers - and make them well.

I would think you would have discussed that with her before you bought them. Besides, why would you ask me, here, and not her personally?

You know, not that it could really be helped, but it's kind of tragic how the ruby sequins have natrually faded overtime.

They have not faded. The way you see them in the film is not how they look in person. The sequins that were used were dark red translucent cuz with the technicolor proscess if metalic red was used, they would have shown up as bright orange.

Don't know about Real Rubies but a Judy fan made a pair from blood red coloured Swarovski stones which look sensational. Tou can see them at the Ruby Slippers Site.

This is just one of the pairs made for the movie...no proof that Judy did wear this pair. I did see one of the pairs at the MGM auction many years ago..still have the auction catalogs.

Did you know that the castle the inspired the Oz castle is in Holland, Michigan? It's true. Part of the story was even written in the castle in Castle Park. The castle has been nominated in Ellen's Wish You Were Here Contest under the Hollywood connection.

..I saw Michael Shaw's pair in 1986 when they were in his traveling show in a mall with his other movie props [Miss Gulch's boot/shoes'were also on display,shame they were stolen.

It's incredible to be able to view these up close. It may be the camera angle, but I'm guessing they are around a sz 5. At 4'11" Judy's feet couldn't have been much bigger than that. I credit these shoes for starting my shoe fetish! LOL. Thanks for uploading!

Yes, there were multiple pairs of shoes, The only one I've been able to identify in the movie, is the right shoe - when Dorothy walks into Oz's throne room is the same right shoe that is in the Smithsonian. You can tell by the way the bow is made - it is unique from all the other bows - based solely on the bottom edge.

If you pay attention to the bows in the movie, you can clearly see more than one pair of shoes were worn, OR, they changed the bows on the shoes... At this date, who knows.

These are not the pair that were stolen. that pair was owned by Michael Shaw, and stolen from The Judy Garland Children's Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. One year ago today, in fact.
