Hugh, I heard you share that finger story in Ireland & have shared it with several others during the past year. I look forward to reading your new book, as I'm currently reading through the "And" one.
If you're passing through Paris sometime, let me know.
I totally agree that we need to be authentic, but I also don't agree that we should be lacking in self control to the point where we would cuss at someone or use profanity to do it. Just because we sound like the rest of the world, does not necessarily make us "authentic". But now days it seems that we call evil good and good evil...it's all upside down.
@Cpickerel Thanks for your concern. I agree the story is a bit off the grid, but I'm trying to illustrate that what some people view as offensive isn't always offensive. Profanity are man made words or gestures that are meant to offend. But sometimes the context can change the meaning. In this story, there was no "offense intended or taken" and thus my use of this gesture conjured up more curiosity and humor and opened up a door of friendship that would not have happened otherwise.
Dude Hugh, I was told that my Christianity was questionable because I said things like holy crap. And I told the elder's teenagers/youth to get some balls and fess up to the prank they pulled at church that cost several men 2 hours' work. I told them to go volunteer for 2 hours to make up for it. They asked me to step down from teaching 5th and 6th grade girls and told me I was unwelcome.
I love this book. Its refreshing... Thanks for taking the time to write this book that aspires and challenges!

Hugh thanks, after 20 plus years in ministry I also almost drowned spiritually in religion. Reading "Sacrilege" helped get some air back in my lungs.
