  • Gotta love how when Hawkeye is psychoanalyzing Magua, Magua looks at him like "Yup, pretty much!"

  • MAJ. HEYWARD PARLE BON FRANCAIS.

  • It is up to the real head of a people to make the best decisions.

  • maguas hatred of the grayhair

  • how do I find the sence where magua speaks to the french officer about his hatred of the grayhair?

  • When the Sachem speaks,

He says "Ho de hoke" or similar.

    What does this mean?

    Thanks.

  • @eff901 Its the Mohawk language equivalent of "Your affairs are ended/done" or simply....."shut up".

  • after watching this film many times, heyward misunderstood full of duty , was a true hero.

  • after watching this film many times, heyward misunderstood full of duty , was a true hero

  • 1:06 translation - "yo, shut the fuck up...just shut the fuck up"

  • Yankees? For awhile, I thought they were talking about baseball.

  • Man I can't put my finger on why, but Magua makes this movie. Even though he's forever sneering and harbouring evil intent, he just comes through as a fiery and deliberate personality.

  • @cjwright79

He's a great character, but many were great. I think the French Commander played a small, but excellent role.

  • @captainunload : It's famous french theatre actor and director: Patrice Chéreau. La voix de la France! ;-)

  • @dionysos46

Cool. La voix de la France? Whats that mean?

  • @dionysos46 : "French's voice", one expression for two things speeched in one: Human Rights, discussed in an eloquent french speech ...

Dominique de Villepin speech in UN parliament Vs W. Irakian War is an another good exemple...

    Have a nice day... ;-)

  • Magua and his chief speak french !

  • Magua think Hawkeye is the son of sixty thousand bitches. Know that Magua will steal your thunder and make you look like a 2-bit amateur in the movie they shall make about me kickin' your silly white butt all over the place.

  • @purple1123 some people just cant be reasoned with so its not a matter of stupidity its a matter of setting limits to those who think they have none sure people always throw in people are intelligent enough as thinking creatures to know that violence is a quality that animals use because they dont have the thought process to do otherwise so when people do that it shows we are no better than animals well in that case we dont need sex since were already cutting of one instinct why not all

  • @purple1123 if women are equal then i should be able to get in a fist fight with one just like i do guys thats equality isnt it

  • @purple1123 -indians esp iroquois( they were are matriarchy)-did NOT say women are dogs- magua was twisted by white man -magua said to the huron chief- you are dogs, slaves, you are women (meaning not warriors weak)-i spit on you-im goin west to huron of the lakes (meaning those hurons are worthy not sell out for booze & beads)-all these actors had such heavy accents when they spoke french i hardly cd understand-& im native quebec french

  • -scots were hired by many countries to fight their wars-scots were known to be ferocious-so fought in canada against the iroquois there-sometime w only promise of plenty good whisky-i saw a mural of scots massacre of native indians in the scots blackguard armory montreal.quebec in memory of their victory over the natives there-thats why this music is in the movie-but be better to have 1/2 native flutes or chant-no iroquois mistreated women prisoner-but magua got twisted by whites

  • That Huron sachem sounds so wise and intelligent. I wonder who was the actor who played him.

  • 3:08

i always started to cry xD

  • Sums us english up in this one scene ....Respect

  • Savage Indians - white females aren't "dogs"

  • @ManchesterUnitedxxx1 shave a dog its always white

  • @ManchesterUnitedxxx1 -indians esp iroquois( they were are matriarchy)-did NOT say women are dogs- magua was twisted by white man -magua said to the huron chief- you are dogs, slaves, you are women (meaning not warriors weak)-i spit on you-im goin west to huron of the lakes (meaning those hurons are worthy not sell out for booze & beads)-all these actors had such heavy accents when they spoke french i hardly cd understand-& im native quebec french

  • @ManchesterUnitedxxx1

When did they say white women are dogs? Reading is fundamental ...

  • This scene is so well done. The Huron (and the 5 nations) valued rhetorical ability very highly, so walking into the cap and making his case was the perfect solution on Hawkeye's part. And the decision to take Duncan instead of Cora was totally believable. Unfortunately, Duncan didn't realize that stoicism in the face of torture was what the Huron were looking for. Who among us is really prepared to be burned alive though1

  • im curious y the sachem is soeacking french instead of Wyandotte?

  • @lion3p0 not wyndotte french bastards saturated that area so they spoke french std language wyndotte language was almost gone then

  • @8ringsofshaolin Wyandot, not wyndotte you ignorant wretch. You can't even spell the name of your own people.

  • @lion3p0 In this part of America, at that time, French was known to almost all of the Indians. As Hawkeye does not speak Huron, he uses Duncan to interpret in French. Check out The Frontiersman, by Alan Eckert. This is a novel about the Indian Wars in America around the Ohio river valley. When the author wrote this novel he consulted numerous letters and old documents, newspapers, diaries and such to compile facts for his book. Extremely interesting.

  • Magua is a badass mutha shut your mouth, I delivered him dry cleaning working at a holiday inn in gallup, nm. He is really short, I was disappointed to see a villain from last of the mohicans and dances with wolves to be so small hehe lol

  • "My compliments sir, take her and get out"

  • Duncan showed tremendous courage and bravery. He made up ten fold for his misgivings at the fort. I felt a bitter loss when he sacrificed himself for them. He was wrong but he didn't deserve to give his life.

  • This speech may be true but is still quite unfair to europeans. Indian tribes were already at war when first europeans came in north america. Iroquois had almost exterminated the Hurons. Europeans just exploited these old hates to make useful alliances in their own wars. Man is man, a native is not less evil than an english or a french...

  • @Perversus666 Outstanding...

  • @Perversus666 europeans exploited all people more than any other race in the world, using disease to win,so by your logic if native americans could have taken europe because of europeans fighting, that would be ok, read your history.

  • Evil Englishman

  • @rawdawg15 you better belive it pesant

  • You can almost make out the french.

  • hawkeye speaks the truth, i pray for my huron brothers to listen then and now

  • @lion3p0 all native americans deserve so much more, and their ways must be told to all people,so that we can learn without lies, please tell me about your huron blood and is there any bad feelings for the iroquois today?

  • @northamerican2121 personazlly, no some bad b lood that is only about as hard core as a joke or 2, we're wyabdottes, huron is a french slur against us, it means ruffian

  • @lion3p0 sorry and thank you for the real history ,im a stone carver and im going to create a work of the natives of that area.

  • when u say hurons relocated-you mean mostly the men-b/c like most indians the mohawks iroquois never killed or raped woman or child-on penalty of death-honor-an when released most women prisoners chose to stay with iroquois in longhouses of mothers clans b/c women had more status and power than in her own huron tribe-huron is french name calling for dishevelled or unkempt and iroquois is native name-calling for "real adders" as iroquois were fierce/invisible like snakes-had only 2kids-no overpop

  • @AndrewIda Very true, Greed is one of the greatest driving forces of evil in this world.

Greed is what kept slavery alive for so many centuries.

  • There were no Huron at the time of the French and Indian War. The Iroquois had defeated and displaced the Huron in the 1680's. They were forced to leave their Canadian homeland around Georgian Bay and relocated to Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, where they were renamed the Wyandot.

  • This man talks two ways. I said.

His tongue is like serpent's tongue.

heekee hooo! Washita Nihonjin Desu wa piyelo !

    Excuse my french !

Fuck ! If only we had reinforced french troops in the 1740's..The whole of America would speak french and i wouldn't bother learning english...

  • @fifilafrite French is gay. Speak English loser.

  • @recniabsal half of your vocabulary is french: it make's you half gay...

kneel and gagg on my dick bitch

  • @fifilafrite You can say that to my face. Or you could just move to Canada since you wanna speak French. Either one works.

  • @recniabsal next time you speak, use french (no Reverso, pleaaase).I'm fed up using your poor half germanic dialect

  • What a wise chief. They do not make leaders like this anymore, lol ;p :)) !!! With leaders like this, there would be a lot less wars going on around the world ;p :)) !!!

  • number 1 native american movie along side dances with wolves!

  • Magua survived, recovered, moved out west and went after settlers and of course Kevin Costner.. died in a creek.

  • 3:08 goosebumps

  • great scene from a great movie.powerful.

  • Daniel Day-Lewis is amazing in this and visually mesmerizing.

  • The real hero of this film is Duncan.

  • @bellerophon602 Indeed! Long Rifle, go in peace

  • I'm french and it's the first time I see this scene in original version. I don't understand what the Huron chief and Magua say in french because their accent is very strong. If I prick up one's ears, I can discern some words. Duncan's accent is better.

This movie is beautiful, it makes me cry everytime I watch it. Thanks for the video.

  • @Rigald33 I was always curious who's huron/french accent shined the best. Thanks for the info. I'm just glad Daniel Day didn't try to speak it.

  • one of the most epic movie scenes ever. Amazing.

  • This is a great movie.

  • this and heat are Michael Mann's best films.

  • I dont understand why the english officer knows Huron language better than long rifle, isnt he indian also?

  • obviously the mohicans dont speak the language of this other tribe for whatever reason, could be bad luck, but the english having colonized so many places knew the benefit of having some of their officers learn the local dialects

  • the first segment of the chief's soliloquy is actually in french (which duncan knows but Hawkeye doesn't). The second part is in the language of the Huron: and therefore neither hawkeye or duncan understand.....

  • @finarrykahn13 yes, it seem Hawkeye doesnt know nothing even not his own status. lol, please i pretty sure all indian did knew their neighboor languages.

  • Yes. It seems entirely logical that he knew the Huron language but still needed a french translator to speak to the chief. Also, it is tough to explain in the movie (beyond this clip) why Hawkeye is completely perplexed as to what the Chief said when he exchanges Cora for Duncan.

  • he's not speaking huron, he is speaking french. a terrible accent, tough

  • I actually like the accent..the French language sounds more cool with an Indian touch..

  • He is actually seaking French if you listen closely. The Huron had many dealings with french and and at some point became familiar with the language

  • @firstjedi its b/c they are speaking french not huron

  • Magua is speaking' French with Native American Indian accent, all the Indians are..while Long Rifle is a Mohican and they speak only English and Mohican..

But that old Huron Chief changes his language and suddenly speak only Huron...U can hear the difference?

  • yes now i see, however, i insist, is not logic that a Indian tribe is discussing their internal matters using a foreign language.

  • Huron tribe is actually many tribes..Magua was not from that tribe..also he said he was going to another Huron village at the lake..so the Hurons had many villages..this was just one of them..They also probably had different accents..like almost all Native American Tribes has...the variety in this people are far more then any European land..only the far east Asia can compare..

  • one of the most bad ass movies ever. It is way diff. than the book, but still one hell of a movie with a killer soundtrack. the fight scens are awesome. That old man can kick some ass. I see alot of the actors in alot of diff. movies

  • Major Heyward might have been arrogant and concieted at times , but he was in the end, an officer and a gallant gentleman

  • @olentangy74 no, every englishman is a savagly coward who cant do shit but wonder how they get their asses kicked by the natives, he doesent deserved to be called an officer, he and every other brit should be hanged and their corpses set on fire.

  • smoking weed is very good with this picture

  • lol what did u see ?

  • duncan's sacrifice is beyond comments...i wish such characters weren't roles played by actors

    thank you for the video

  • Well you can't expect Hollywood to put a native as a hero and pewpew a white girl?

I'm just glad marky mark and the funky bunch ain't starring in this.

The final chapter and the soundtrack sure brings tears to my eyes anyway

  • Maybe the movie is good, but I don't like the fact that it doesn't follow the plot of the book (which is so much better). Uncas is the real hero, not Long Riffle and also, Uncas is in love with Cora (Long Riffle, which is much older than she is, is just a faithful protector). In the movie, Uncas plays such an unimportant character, while in the book he is the greatest one.

  • @ bijomik,...I agree Uncas' character in the book is much more fleshed out then in the film. All in all, the movie adheres to the book better than most I've seen.

The idea of Alice becoming completely unwound and jumping off the cliff is plausible. After all, she was from an

enterily different culture, she was very young and had led a sheltered life.

If Cora had been forced to run the gauntlet she would have survived!

    She was warrioress material! :-)

  • Best line in the whole damn movie, when the senior Huron says, "Sarihokton'!"

(Your affairs are ended/cut, or equally "shut up")

Rest in peace Mike Phillips, you were a good man.

  • Please, how do you know this. It is one of the best films.

  • Mike was a Mohawk, Im a Mohawk and we come from the same place.

He was speaking in Mohawk in a couple of places, although the character is said to be Huron.

It is said that while Huron was still spoken that it was very similiar to Mohawk.

  • The best lines I agree 100%. All the lines spoken by the indians in their indian language are great.

So deep, powerful and wisdom in their words when they speak.

  • @audiolabguy i loved the village elder so much wisdom and judgement wish we had them around and get these kids put in there place.

  • Sleepy Hollow is movie with humor. Johnny Depp is great in it :-D Native language sounds nice! The Last of the Mohicans is one hell of a movie. I always have to cry watcing it... ;)

  • daniel looked so great there.

and the blonde one played in sleepy hollow :D:D

  • cool my name is Sashem after Sachem, my parents changed the spelling just so everyone can pronounce it.

  • Indians speak French! that's great!

  • It pays to learn the language of friend and foe. lol I got so much crap for learning to speak Japanese (I'm Navajo.) But if I didn't learn how to speak Japanese, I would not have met the awesome people in my life. Best friends have been met through the power of language. It doesn't matter what language.

  • Japanese is good language to know..

  • long silent stare from the chieftain. then: sasischua tha rofl, this scene is solid as gold.

  • actually is a goodguy if u think about it. because he is defending his people and getting revenge. And to serve the french would be better in the long ruin than the english, because the french have a tendancy to look after thier country. Look at the state of america today and britain itself today environmentaly fucked. he is a good guy for helping french lol thats what i think

  • revenge is a strong word. I don't use it very often. nobody should use it very often, as the goal here is to stop the goddamn violence.

  • wow i love red indian

    not black indian

  • love it love it love.

  • i also saw him in some famous indian movie,(bad guy ofcourse) it was wonderful to see him

  • he was in dances with wolves and heat with al pacino. great actor.

  • daaaaaaamn, english dude chose to burn to death for them...such....honor...

  • I met the man who played Magua yrs back at a gym in CA. Quite, subdued guy .

  • Wes Studi is a great guy off camera. very active in the indian community, for the preservation of native languages.

that is so cool you got to meet like you did!

  • I saw him in a restaurant in Williamsburg, VA when he was there filming The New World. I waved and he smiled back but I got the impression that I was the only guy there who recognized him. I've been a fan since he scared the bejesus out of me in this movie years ago.

  • I just loved the comments of Magua. Such a bitter man. "white man is a dog for his woman" Such a great punchlines.

  • best soundtrack..arg,best film <3

  • I would never burn for a women who didn't love me back...but thats why I love this movie so dramatic and savage,it gets even better after this part and more tragic.

  • the score you hear coming in towards the end gives you a taste of how great the climax is

  • love that film..and the fire-scene xDDD

  • is my boss the old man wise

  • what a badass scene
