But I don't think that's an excuse... if everyone saw it, the more reason to use it! they should have tied the season 5 finale with that video. That way they would prove that they really have the season and the show planned out. The fact that they killed Dan and everyone knows about the video, just proves to everyone that they really don't know what they're doing and they're making it up as they go along. Really? Jeremy Davies (who plays Daniel) actually confirmed it was him when the season started. It was on EW's Totally Lost. He also said that there was more to that video... I don't think anyone got to see it though (and probably noone will...) Anyway, I loved The Variable as an episode, it just bothers me that they left so many unanswered questions. I feel like they should have used the comic con video to tie in with the finale an then do "The Variable" in one of the first episodes of season 6
But, i really don't think Dan will die, or he will just be a ghost like Horace, and Miles will just get information from him.
He just had too much important information from his research and from dharma HQ for the writers to just let his character end like that...then again, there were some pretty awful endings for a lot of the dead characters.

If Dan is really dead, I have to say: Very bad move, Lost writers!
1- What about the comic con video with Daniel and Chang? Now you say it's not canon? I think it's actually bad planning on your part.
2- How does Daniel know everything about the Incident and the Hatches? I don't think Whidmore had access to that info, so he couldn't have told him
3- Why is Desmond his constant? Only because of what happened in the Constant?
4-If Ellie is his mother, genetically Charles can't be his father!
