Read Alan Dershowitz' analysis on the Irvine 11. Assuming he is not biased becuase he's probably Jewish, the Irvine 11 were rightfully convicted. Numerous legal scholars all agree that this was not a case of free speech. Having not been given jail time, it's really not that big of a deal. I'm willing to entertain the idea that what the Irvine 11 did was not an attack on free speech, but I don't see how it isn't. If someone isn't allowed to speak, how is that not an attack on their right to free speech, as well as the rights of others to hear him? Keep in mind that the Irvine 11 had every right to protest outside of the assembly. We can't just pick and choose who is allowed to speak on the basis of whether or not we like what they have to say. I don't have any respect for these people. Fair enough, they have good intentions but they're going about this entirely incorrectly. You usually can't beat the system just by shouting at it. Instead, what they should have done was waited until the question portion of the seminar and attacked him with dignity, intelligence and reason. If not convincing the ambassador of anything, they could have at least changed the views of some of the audience members.

Who was that Rabbi at the end telling the students, "you're failing your exams"? What a JERK he was. Is he threatening them? Or is it antiislamic?
Aren't Rabbis supposed to be voices of reason and compassion? Not only is he a jerk, but he's also a BULLY.
And I don't understand why some were so hostile to the students who disrupted the speech. They were kicked out. Wasn't that enough? Do two wrongs make a right?
That faculty member should be ashamed that the university is so oppressive.

Although watching the video again they don't seem to be arrested at all at the end of the video. Maybe some of them did something more extreme that isn't shown on video and got arrested.

Sure take them out of the room, if they resist arrest them. But when they stand up and leave peacefully you arrest them and fail them? That is not justice. That professor should be fired and the kids should get some good lawyers and make sure the pd pays for that.

I am not even sure what message they were trying to send. They hate Israel? I think most people already know radical Muslims hate Israel. And if you have been around UC Irvine, you would know these are radicals. They are free to beleive whatever but don't deny other people rights.

@caltex123 But doesn't the speakers complicity in genocide mean the speaker himself denied others their rights? Not just to free speech but he denied others the right to live by knowingly selling weapons that everyone knew Israel would use illegally. People still die on a daily basis from the fallout of the massive amount of cluster bombs dropped on Lebanon.
