  • The pedals are really not very useful, except to make the Lazer 5 a legal moped. You can pedal furiously and won’t go much over 3 mph. The electric starter is nice and generally works fine. But little batteries are never terribly reliable. It is nice to know that if your battery goes dead you can pedal start it. By pedal starting, the moped would run fine without any battery in it at all. But without a battery your lights would go out as soon as the engine stops.

  • hi, so pedaled means it looks more like a motorcycle and your feet are on the outside of the bike instead of together? Thanks

  • Thank you

  • this isn't the only new moped made today. Tomos makes a nice bike

  • how wide is the rear rack???

  • is it true that the cotters could be removed from the crankarms and the pedals removed and the 'moped' still be operational???

using electric start and the front foot pegs for foot rest???

  • As near as I can tell, J & J Motorsports of El Monte California designed the Lazer 5 to comply California's laws. I heard of the shift mechanism from them. But in California, if it has a manual shift, it's not a moped and would have to be registered as a scooter. Still, as an aftermarket add on, this subtle point would probably go unnoticed. My guess is that the shift mechanism was really intended for those who live outside of California.

  • Hello, I actually purchased a lazer 5 based on your review but I am very interested where I can find the manual shifting kit you mentioned, I contacted SSR but they had never heard of such a kit. Please contact me if possible about the kit.

  • Where do you get one of these?

  • Do you have a link to the Shift Kit that you can get for these?

  • Cops dont even pay attention to you and when they do they smile or laugh. Cuz they have to deal with people going over 120mph everyday.

  • yeah you definitely do not CHANGE the oil using the dipstick!

  • ihis california commy country

  • In California you need a moped or M2 license to drive on the street. There is a lot of confusion about moped laws and even many policemen or not very clear. See link above about licenses.

  • @outandabout what about insurance? im not worried about getting the license but paying for insurance may sway me away from getting a moped...

  • you do relize a 10 yearold could ride that because it is under 50cc
