Uh Ausitin, It's still in 4/4. Play the simple intro to 'Money' by Pink Floyd. That's in 5/4 or some odd meter timing. That'll get your point across much better and clearer.
OK OK this is a total hoax... it has to be.. he did the same thing as the previous video where he just counts 5 over a riff in 4... he is making bank off of all the ppl visiting his you tube.. that has to be it.. pls DUDE.. HAHAHHAHAHAHAH still laughing my ass off... his original post was years ago... at least his hair and glasses are different... LMAO
i spoke to this fool about his breakdance "tuition!" and about how its fucking wank,he actually thinks hes good, what a twat, looking at the comments here his piano aint any better,i dare any of ya to watch the brakdance he does!
i take that back. i really don't think any of his videos are honestly serious... -.-" i hope people arent coming here for anything more than comedy -.-" LOL but i think he's actually making fun of the ACTUAL austin mcbride who's on expert village who is a terrible teacher as well. LOL this is funny.
Wow, hats off to McBride! His original 5/4 video was so convincing it fooled me, as so many others. Thanks, Christian for the resolution. And great comeback: "It's just how you count it". Deep
Ok, after watching this my conclusion is that this guy's a comedian. A musical comedian, because what he does is actually quite difficult- playing a 4/4 groove and counting 5/4 over it, and then playing a 5/4 groove and counting 4/4 over it. However not quite as funny as the original 5/4 jazz video
It *does* matter what you play. It *does not* matter how you count it.
Mr. McBride is not without talent. He can bounce a golf ball on the face of an iron. I doubt I could do that. To hear 5/4 timing, listen to Brubecks' Take 5. Look up "Quintuple meter" on wikipedia.
PS: when counting, every number gets the same amount of time.
this obviously is a joke but i just can't help but feel like he did this video solely to make us believe his older videos aren't serious as well even though they weren't.
First example is in 4 and he counts it in 5, Second example is in 5 and he counts it in 4. This is suppose to be instructional too. This guy is a comedian. I am convinced. The chord progressions are hilarious too.
You're so freaking dumb!!!!!!! you call yourself a teacher? you're a phony!!!!!!!! 5/4 is COUNTED and PLAYED in 5/4!!!!! gah!!!! i hope the music gods strike you down and the rhythm gods eat what you have a brain.
@teledestiny LOL! first of all its a joke. second of all...the 2nd example is actually in 5, not 3. And he's counting 4 against it. Which is actually kinda tricky to do lol. your a newb.
you fucking suck dick. your timing is so off its unbelievable how confident you are in your utter wrongness. it matters what you play because notes have different values in other time signatures. try to look at a music theory book, you will find contradictions to what you are jawing about in probably the very first chapter.
NOOOO i mean i know your takin the piss but dude come on there are people who genuinely believe this is a 5/4 piece. its unfair to those people to post this kinda stuff
you're obviously trying to be funny. its sad because on eHow you werent but then you realized your only option was to suddenly redo your godawful videos wearing gay glasses and make it seem like you were joking all along. I know the truth : that you're a shitty summercamp jazz piano wannabe who probably lives with his mom
Ack... The first passage is in 4/4 but he counts to five. The second one actually is in 5/4 time signature, BUT he counts to four. This has to be a joke, please let it be a joke... :D
5 is 1+4 or 2+3 or 3+2 or 4+1 or 1+3+1. A true 5 can be accomplished by superimposition of 2 to 5 of the 5 patterns available. For best results --- I recommend polar pattern: (e.g. 2+3 combined with 3+2). [This could also be considered poly-metric, as the emphasis of the beat is common in one area but differing in two areas]
It doesn't matter if you count your 4/4 as 5/4 or vice versa - the riff you play clearly states 4/4. Perhaps with a band strongly playing 5 you could bluff rhythmic displacement but frankly you would never notate that riff in 5 in isolation.
hey antoniodcz, your right... he's DAMN good. He deserves a slot in comedy centrals programming. the whole new look, the background... can't be for real.
It sounds like part he claims to be 4/4 at 1:28 is actually that 5/4 groove. but than again... he doesn't know how to count.
Seriously, he must be a comedian. Because he wouldn't be putting up more of these vids after all the bad criticism he received. I haven't seen a single one of his videos that really made sense.
It doesn't matter what you play, but how you count it.... Even if it is obviously in 4 4 or even if your count 1 is obviously not on the downbeat. Another reason why music education should be kept in schools... But wait! The first counting exercise could be purposefully demonstrating a hemiola structure! If I run into more dysfunct "tutorials" like this, I might make my own correct ones...
Austin! It's time for you to come clean isn't it? This is a big wind-up, right? Evan when I saw your first video about 5/4 I wondered whether it was a joke, but now, with these new glasses and hairstyle, I suspect you are a comedian ( and an accomplished one at that).
