I understand conservation, but I also understand p.e.t.a. - people eating tasty animals. So if you complain about this big girl being harvested, be thankful she is being shared with multiple friends, families, stories etc. Her story will help others understand responsible fishing. Just remember to share the wealth when you decide to keep a big one!
I have caught halibut all my life-one thing that is true is that the big ones dont taste nearly as good as the smaller ones, so why not let them go? A fish like this will produce thousands off offspring so why not harvest the smaller ones that are not yet sexually mature? I know its easier said than done but we all need to take some responsibility when it comes to conservation. There's a lot of videos on here of taking big fish but not many of letting them go. I'm just saying......
I think all of you cry babies that say it should of been thrown back should shut the f@$?up it's one fish who gives a fuck your just a bunch of pencil pushing fags that sit on your ass all day and think of something to cry about so maby you should just shut the fuck up and stop your fucking crying and don't forget to go fuck yourselves to
omg people no shit a bigger fuckin halibut is better then a small halibut -_- which would u rather keep a 5 pound halibut or a fuckin 400 pund halibut. more fillets n shit fack man. Frewcc : yah man delicious fuck the other fuckers!! userunknown77 dam right nintendude 1986 dam right!! all u other fuckers out there that think they shud release 400 pound halibuts are dumb shits
@TheSkatingforlife fuck you halibut is good and there is a lot more halibut in sea and im sure youve never been fishing because your scared if you hold the fish it will bite you!so shut up you little bitch!
They aren't even a good eating fish when they're that big. A good captain would of talked the client into releasing it. It's a female and is carrying thousand of eggs.
jesus christ, it gets annoying after awile when people keep saying "release the big ones, what the fuck were you thinking, wow what a waste" Everyone knows this is the case but often times, when you catch a fish like this, in the moment, the last thing going through your mind is to release it. Big halibut taste great too. the flakes are bigger but they still taste like halibut... fuck
Harpoon or shoot it? Maybe you guys do that but really, a big halibut like that usually is pretty docile. Rifle....commercial fishermen do not take fish under 17.3 lbs live weight, YOU on the other hand can keep the tiny ones. Walking the docks in Alaska one can see charter boats and sport fishermen (not the same thing) come in with baby halibut all the time. Your last sentence really shows what caliber people the charter industry are. Nice choice of words.
Oh, and more to that, its ONE fish. What about the commercial fishermen who kill hundreds of ten lbs fish? Just so they can fill their quota with the 60lbs and up? keep your fucking mouth shut unless you know what your talking about, and go back to wherever the fuck you came from.
It was 376LBS. I can understand that some of you might not think that they should have kept the fish; but it was not the captains choice, I would know, hes my dad! Its a charter boat and she was a customer who wanted to keep her fish. So dont bash my dad. I do think that it is pointless to keep a halibut of that size, they taste horrible and yes they are usually females.
Sad... anything over 100# is guaranteed to be a breeding female, and taking them only reducing the numbers of eggs in the water. More and more big fish are being taken with the only result being less fish in the future. Besides, the 25-35# fish taste better anyways!
You pricks should have let it go, you can't eat one that big and you killed about 3,000,000 eggs, it should have been you pack of peckerheads that were gaffed and gutted!!
Very nice fish and the water there is like glass! With my experience of Alaskan halibut fishing, the really big halibut don't actually taste all that well BUT are great for trophies! The chickens taste the best!
its almost as big as she is!!

I'd throw out everything in my big, stand-up freezer just to put all that Halibut in there. It would take a Swordfish to repeat the process

cuff1957 1 year ago
@GiganteAlbert The reason they're not huge anymore is because of people killing all the big ones.
TheSkatingforlife 1 year ago
That's 376lbs of wasted fish that's gonna taste like crap. 4 million eggs that will never hatch, and one prime specimen removed from the gene pool.
