I suffer from severe OCD since childhood. Honestly I truly having undergone it think exposure therapy can be a form of traumatizing abuse. There are varying levels of OCD and its of comorbid with other conditions so exposure therapy may work for some but it left me with severe trauma symptoms even a variation of PTSD.
Parents this is a DANGEROUS treatment it can go south very fast and can lead to more intense anxiety and lack of trust in the medical professionals resulting in a lack of treatme
i hate odd numbers i have 2 have my tv on an even numba, cant step on craks or nofin, wen i touch fings i have do it twice wiv both hands and in the showa i need to have water touchin both sides of body and tht i duno weva i have ocd thouu iv neva talked to any1 about it. its bin happenin for years thouu :/
there is no such thing as "a little OCD". You either have OCD.or you don't and it is really offensive hearing others say that because you obviously don't have it or know anything about it. OCD is not an adjective to describe somebody who's anal or neat. It refers to a serious condition affecting mental health.
I have OCD about the way I look. But the thing about me is I WANT to have OCD because i think it makes me look better. I obssess about my clothes and my hair. It's consumed my life but I think it's a good thing. I also have social anxity disorder! Medicine dosnt help but I don't want it to.
Mntally distressing. i have ocd but it manifests in the form of scrupulosity (reiligous ocd) when i was younger like 11 or 10 i used to switch on and of lights , wash my hands constanly and get in and out of bed. little did i know it was going to turn into reiligous ocd soon enough. now i pray more than 10 times a day . go into my room and ask for forgivness then the same bad thoughts come to my head anyway. The worst thing is i get told to shutup. my family will never understand :(
@jbandsglover you are not alone, I have that too, and if you are like me I often let my web addiction get ocd too, always one more website, always one more prayer for good mesure, worried about going to hell from mortal sin so thats on your mind if your me, so I spend many a time in confession, scrupulostity is also considered sin, in that you dont trust the grace of God so you are always in fear, pray to St Alphonsus Liguori, he suffored from it too.
@jbandsglover I am like you. i used to spend almost my whole day looking for cures and stories of people overcomming it, but i get what you mean. i just have too trustin god :) thanx for your support.
@jbandsglover Wow, guy. You're story sounds like mine. The therapies described in this video helped me. I'm 25 now. I'm not perfectly cured but my life is manageable. It gets better. Good luck.
I have OCD with Locks, door handles, windows, switches, the cooker controls, taps and a few other things lol. Takes me like half an hour to leave the house, time to see someone about it?
I've had anxiety problems in my life for a long time. But in late 2008, my symptoms exploded. I have OCD, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and ASD (very mild autism). For me I started to worry about school and then everything else, I still do, but I also feel like my mind controls me, like my mind tells me if i walk this way, and do this something bad will happen, and things like that. II'm 15, and tried prozac, and it hasn't worked well for me, I've been on it almost a year.
@davidcontractor No one has ever been cured because there is a physical neurological basis for it and there is no way to correct that.
However some people do see their OCD go into remission and some of these individuals never have it arise again in their lifetime. It can be a very dynamic disorder and does tend to fluctuate. But even when the person is going through a symptomless period, because the underlying cause is still there, there is always potential for symptoms to re-arise.
I've had ocd for my whole life i'm 12 now........ I obsess over animals...... and I want it to stop I have 3 dogs 2 hamsters and 1 rabbit 1 bird and a fish I JUST WANT TO STOP BUT IT"S HARD!!!
I strongly believe that much of this is related to a childhood neuropsychiatric autoimmune disorder called PANDAS or a non strep related disorder called PITAND. Please we need so much more research. We need funding to help those suffering with OCD/Tics/Tourettes
Absolutely true, and hard to deal with. I do my best:) I still have a well rounded life. I was diagnosed with it a year ago, and went through hell for three months, but have been on the mend with it for the last year.
I am the same as you. i have it with other stuff but the locks & switches are the worst!! it does get so bad sometimes I do think dark thoughts. This isnt living, I may as well not be here.
I dealt with mine by overcoming my fear of death. You have to be unafraid of dying- almost suicidal in a way, because if you think about, all of our compulsions are based on a fear of death. If they're not, then they're about fear of hurting someone else, or fear of contamination. But ultimately, all of them can be overcome if you decide: A.) you're not afraid of death, B.) if you accidentally hurt or kill someone else, accidents happen to anyone, and C.) to learn to love being dirty.
@shiphouse1 thats not true you can beat this...and you can turn your ocd into a gift...it makes you a perfectionist with great attention to detail...tthat is a gift and could even be lucrative...stay strong and give your to god
many a genius have been dysfunctional im just saying that if your going to be afflicted with this why not use it...i know from experience that ocd is not something you can totally get rid of...so you learn to live with it best you can
I have OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder). I have had it sense I was 10-years-old; and I am 15-years-old. I take Prozac for it. OCD isn't funny. But sometimes my friend(s) kid about it. But in all-seriousness, it isn't funny. Trust me, I would know. Thank-you!

Prozac's never cured anything, just numbed people's brains down enough that they stopped producing symptoms..
Not just symptoms of whatever it was prescribed for, but just about every other feeling as well.

I hate when OCD is being portrayed in a funny way (movie "as good as it gets"). OCD is dibilitating disorder and needs to be addressed as such.

For me, B is the hardest one to overcome. I'm always afraid of accidentally hurting someone else- especially little kids.
