The lyrics don't draw me to this music, its the beat, and the emotions/effort put toward what he is saying that does.

Sting has a nack for that kinda thing.

Sting is actually paraphrasing the Scottish historian David Mackay, who wrote:

"Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one."

It's from Mackay's book "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and The Madness of Crowds" published in 1841--and still relevant today!

@chowgirl talking of mobs and what not and what men do together but those who really get healthy do it alone.i.e. finding religion/life in absence of it etc.gotta say some of my favorite lyrics in the whole song...he wrote a good one
