You know it's funny dancers get a new pair of shoes to abuse them as soon as you get them in your hands and then shortly after they look over at their buddy: i need new shoes...
What a lovely video. I'm sure whoever put it together is a wonderful person. Probably hot too. I bet that she'll find the kind of love she deserves in life.
@asiavs, I think this fotage in this video is amazing, didn't you got any help with this? And another thing that I like with this video: she looks healthy, not like she ever had anorexia. I like it!
@SunshinepicturesxD Thank you! I did have some help with the filming. A friend and colleague of mine came with me to help film so there were 2 cameras rolling at once.
@SunshinepicturesxD A ballerina normally is naturally thin, training that much you can't put on weight!! And you need to be very healthy and fit to work. It's not true that so many ballerinas heave eating disorders.
She's such an splendid dancer, she shouldn't put so much pressure on herself, although, if you do ballet, specialy professionally, you'd also put a lot of pressure on yourself, so I understand. She's still amazing, thou.
I love that they interviewed her and that she was able to share how it's not just physical limitations that can set you back--it's usually psychological. She seems to be very emotionally aware and I'm glad she isn't just another ballet machine who talks about how magical and fairy tale-like (though still tiring) their career is. I like her a lot.
everyone says ballet is so fun and enjoyable, yet they never mention the pain of pointe shoes and the stress on your body. first hand experience right hurr
@kpopotaku121296 How does them being comfortable make you lose technique? With them pre-broken in you don't have to waste time trying to get them to where you like them to fit and your feet always look great gives you a nice arch.
@kpopotaku121296 when a dancer is put en pointe at the right time in her training (not too early), her feet should be strong enough that gaynor or not doesn't matter. many schools put girls en pointe so early, that they still need to strengthen their feet. professionals in any case can wear whatever they want, because they have finished their training.
@juliet5roberts - I think what your'e seeing is that she doesn't exactly have the most perfect ballet body. I assume that over the years, she's learned to work with what she has and make the absolute best of it. More power to her. She is definitely at a professional level.
@juliet5roberts I think it may be due to the Balanchine rehearsal they're doing. She is clearly classically trained so learning a Balanchine ballet is awkward at times
To move up the ranks is based on the years if performance. Most prima ballerinas don't make principals until their thirties, but with the promotions, their wages increase. :)
@LaurenStar111 For dance there is no upper limit. Dancers always strive to be perfect and since no one is perfect they always dance and work and practice until they can't anymore.
My moment was when I was at a competition and had the mind set to dance like someone I admired with the smile, power, dedication and the enjoyment they reflected on stage at competitions (Jessi B) . The moment I did that and danced for the enjoyment and mindset of being a champion I did a leap across the stage that made the audience give a small gasp. I was in the zone of executing and enjoying the dance. I got 2nd that day but that day was a turning point. Two 1st placements came after that.
some people like the 'acrobatic' dancing but I'd rather stick to the quality of the dancing itself not exactly technique. for me, it's the heart that counts. cliche, but an emotional dancing is far more beautiful than acrobatic dancing that involve little to no emotion/character at all.. like if you see a circus or gymnastics. awe-spiring, but not artistic.
you're amazing!

Curious as to the wages of principal dancers, soloists, etc.
Is there a pay scale or is it based on years of performing?
