This beat is soft as marshmellows, I can't ever see this being played in da clubs. This ain't hip hop -- this is elevator music!
Lex Luger 1 Pete Rock 0
Lex is a much better producer. Pete Rock's beats are just boring soul loops with some boom bap drums added. Lex Luger won the best producer award at the BMI urban awards 2011. Pete Rock can only dream about winning such an award.
@ChocoaNuggetz Pete Rock & CL Smooth made this beat and they spit all of the versus, but yes there is another version with Proof and it's produced by J Dilla. It's called Searchin' - Proof

@trone1084 YES !! Love that song -- MY FAVE -- I played the drums to that song over and over again until I had it NAILED. Tried to get my buddies to learn the bass and guitar parts - too hard for 'em. The song "mind blowin' decisions" by HEATWAVE sampled in there. LOVE VINIA MOJICA.
@dragonxop Do what i do. Burn CDs of all the music you love. There is still good music out there, its just that you have to search real hard for it. Real Hip Hop will never die, you just won't hear it on the radio. I feel you though.
@darnellpt No doubt! Those were great yrs for hip hop. My personal favorite yrs for hip hop were '92, '94 and its a toss up between '97 n '98. I just think as each year passed, rapper's lyrics just kept gettin better and producer's beats kept gettin harder n harder. On the real tho, I think '94 was truly my favorite year. Main Ingredient, Ready to Die, Hard to Earn, Illmatic etc. I think rap peaked in the late 90's after everyone got their gold n platinum plaques.
@macnastee doe or die by AZ or it was written by NAS? I think those years were just as good. I don't have 1 particular favorite year. I think from the mid to late 90's was best for me. I'm a little more open minded when it comes to hip hop because from 1992-2002 there were a grip of honorable hip hop albums that were released. 2005 is really the year when hip hop plummeted down the toilet for me, but in 2011 i'm just grateful that we have producers like 9th wonder, mphazes, & damu fudgemunk.

@MrDirtdevil91 Ain't it funny how we went from one extreme to another? Just about what year did the trend toward tighter looks begin? The impression I had was that baggy jeans slowed way down in the late 1990s but then came back a few years later.
In the places where I've recently lived (Oregon), baggy jeans are still kinda popular, though less so than in the past. I wonder if this is a geographical thing and other places have seen that look go almost extinct?
