  • This is something I really want to do! I can't find a single roller derby place for 15 year old girls in the south east of England! This sucks

  • "Not drinking smoking...etc is what you want'

Well, im 13...dont think i'll be doing that anyways xD

  • 25 in 5: you have to think of the track light a diamond, so on the straight -aways you come all the way to the outer edge an don the corners you take the inside line. cross over staying low coming out of the turns to gain speed and on the tight corners you crouch low and dig in 8 on the floor. if you cross over on the turn you'll slide out. Stay low and really push on your crossovers.

  • jeez the 5 in a minute pretty simple but the 20 in 5, i cant even get past 10 1/2 in 2 min. i'm in the nashville junior roller derby :)

  • r u sure this chic does roller derby?? she seems a little soft

  • @rollerderbyjr Not all roller derby girls are really tough people who look like they will eat you. It really depends on skill.

  • @SerenitySparks i know but she doesnt know much about roller derby, shes giving all of the wrong techniques

  • @rollerderbyjr You just said she looks a little soft.

  • @SerenitySparks ha ha i know she does, do u do roller derby?? cuz most the girls that i am with look and are relly tough!

  • woot! i just passed my physical assesments...i'm 37 years old started skating one year ago, and have smoked cigarettes for the past 16 years. i did my 5 laps in 0:54, rested for 5 minutes, then did 25 laps in 4:38...there is hope for the unhealthy

  • @nahtellin how did u manage to do it? cuz i do wanna give it a try.

  • It's actually 25 laps in 5 minutes. I'm preparing for my assessments and getting real close to under 5 minutes.

  • @Keezingpenguin - Yes, they increased the number of laps recently.

  • Actually what you want to do it think of turning the oval track into a round track....as you approach a turn you're going to go out to the far most corner, then cut straight across the track (you'll be on the inside line when you do this) to the farmost corner (now you're on the outside line of the track), go straight, repeat till you get to the next corner. This will allow you to do crossovers the entire time. When you see girls not doing crossovers and kind of leaning in at the corners,

  • this is actually breaking and takes away a lot of your speed...why would you want to speed up only to break yourself? you should be doing crossovers through the corners

  • @nightwish5401 must say i have to disagree, i passed my laps after swinging low and sharp into the corners, and cross overs as i come out, it really gets my speed up, i tried constant crossovers on straights n corners only, and was nowhere near the 25 laps..

  • I think it is 25 laps in 5 minutes. You would have to average 5 laps in 1 minute. I appreciate all the videos you post on here. It has made many things about derby easier!

  • 25 laps is the new standard adopted in 09 I believe toward the end of the year. When this was recorded, 20 was the standard

  • more help in the 5 lap in 60 would be great.

Which is the best lines to take ect..

    Great vids though..

  • The way you do that 5 laps in a minute is -

    A. crossover the whole time

    B. Use the apex of the track in the turns. The apex is the closest to the inside line you can get without going out of bounds. Skate the middle in the straightaways and use the apex on the turns.

  • I appreciate the info thanks!

  • @HaloofCurls Do you mean like the diamond? 'Cause that's the fastest way around.

  • @RustedMetalHeart - Yes, exactly :)

  • Skating on trails is a good cross training exercise. you don't have inclines on the rink, which is one of the most challenging part of skating trails. Going to sessions can be boring because they don't let you skate very fast or practice any of your drills.

  • Thank you for the info!

  • Open skate is a good time to practice dodging little kids though :D

  • @HaloofCurls lol, oh so very true

  • @HaloofCurls our "skate box" won't let us... Mama Smurf knows us all too well in this small town to allow us to skate semi-fast in open skate :(
