@paulinethegreat1 I remember that tactic, when he opened a path in the middle of his lines for the chariots, and then surrounded them with his infantry. You'd have to be pretty quick to act if you were to do that in Rome: Total War.

ok....this is why the POM is actually a really smart and good player...he had three units of horsemen...while the enemy had a crap load....and yet...HE STILL WINS THE FREAKIN CAV FIGHT

@chrsplnc its not too hard to rout large numbers of horesemen. all you have to do is charge one into their front to bog them down and order your other horses to flank and charge them in the back.

@Legitimatemuffins Yeah but you do have the dilemma of how many cav you charge into the front. I used the outflanking tactic in R:TW with 4 Roman Cavalry and was facing 2 Companions. I charged with 2 Roman cav and ran around their flanks with the other 2, but since my first 2 Roman cav was already weak, they routed before I could surround the Companions. My remaining cav finished the job, but I did lose 2 cav units.

@Recruitsoldier indeed, if possible use your strongest cav to do the frontal charge. make their line longer than the other cavs to make sue they're completley surrounded.

Online Rome Total War is getting pretty stupid as most people either, Cataphract spam, Archer spam, or just uses a combination of the two, it's pretty ridiculous to be honest...

The persian player did terrible unit control

Phalanx are one of the most formidable defenses

Throwing infantry at them is like throwing light cavalry to spearmen

Instead of targetting "Alexander" with cavalry head on he should of maneuvered a flanking position for them reinforced with just 1 squadron of spearmen

To prevent mass amounts of enemy cavalry charges

Because Phalanx are strong but immobile

Destroy their cavalry, then destroy the defences(phalanx units)

Alexandros united the greeks for the first time in corinth and then he started his campain with all the greeks. After his first battle he was so proud to follow the foots of achilies that he send 400 armors to be displayed in parthenon athens and inform the start of greek empire with all greeks exept spartans

Besisdes the only reason for the spartans didn't rule Anciant Grecia was because of their weak culture (too much related to war, noting else).

Alexander was a great general who wasnt one of the ordinary generals that are on the side and give orders. he were in the battle and gave encouragement to his regiments and just used his military genius to take down his enemys. by the way, great battle 5/5!

i REALLY was hoping that CA would have made phalanx units' better physics. they don't hold the spear with two hands, the spears dont have the weight on back tip for balancing, shields are smaller and don't hang on soldiers shoulders.

I'm waiting for these improvements when new game launches =P

a tip for people, i have found a moderately expensive army for macedon. you can get it with a 20k battle. It is: 6 companion cavalry, 8 cretan archers, and 6 royal pikemen. add me as a friend!
