alot of people mentioned this on imdb, they sold him out, they used him as a decoy and didnt seem to leave him a car, i dont know if the car hes standing next to was part of the humungas crew
The vehicule that Max has at the begining of Thunderdome that is being pulled by the camels is what he apparently salvaged from the wasteland between the two films. The people in the outpost did not give him anything after the ending of Road Warrior.
What's especially nice about this ending is the ambiguity. Did Max know he was a decoy, or did the Refinery folks just use him? If he had said "Can I come with you?" we'll never know if they'd have said yes or no.
Amazing ending to an all time great movie, especially from 0.38 onwards. The haunting music, the narration and that pull back of Max fading into darkness is fucking lengendary. It does make you shiver.
This is one of my favourite endings of any films..and the line "he lives now only in my memories" never fails to offer up some bigtime goosebumps and shivers up and down the spine
That ending gives me a heartbroken every time I see it. I would not want to do that if I were him. I guess it is easy for him because he's been a loner and survivor all the time after Mad Max.
What gives me chills about this ending is that the Feral Kid knew that he would no longer see what he just saw. Humans are social creatures and eventually (in that post-apocalyptic reality) civilizations will be built again. And this era of lawlessness, chaos, and search will disappear forever. So too will the figure of Max - to the mists of antiquity.
@shotguns1994 I'd say it was a good Max movie. It completes his character arc: in the first film he's a normal guy who falls from grace along with civilization, in Road Warrior he's just a burnt out nomad who just starts to be re-humanized and in Thunderdome he completes this transformation back into a human by realizing he has to help the Tribe of kids.
@SgtMustang so whats his plan then? drive around until he runs out of petrol or food? beause he probably wont last another fortnight, his car is a V8 he must eat petrol, hes just driving in circles going nowhere, thats stupid
unless he finds some wierd place called thunderdome lol
@SgtMustang oh yeah. but still. what happens when he cant find anymore petrol? he just lays down and dies? another thing that always bothered me was, do you think he would have killed the gyro captain in cold blood if he didnt know about the gasoline?
@boodat77 Also, his interceptor was destroyed in this movie. So either he immediately had to switch to an animal pulled cart or the Villagers gave him a vehicle.
im glad the movie ended the way it did because he was a loner never staying down in one spot for to long, plus i can't see him settling down and having a family
The use of a narrator in this, a film without much dialogue otherwise, is perhaps the best ever in a movie. Can anyone think of a better voice-over narrator in a film?
@pinboyjorf exactly. you chose the right word: "mythical", but not only this....i think the Feral Kid saw Max as a father figure, that's why he remembers him after so long.
@cronshaw true man thunderdome was 80s pur bullshit whats going on with the landscape it isnt the fucking sahara desert atleast in the second one there was some trees wtf
greatest fade cam shot in the history of cinema. This video holds the answer for how to fix the economy

Max is like Odin charging straight to Fenrir with Thor by his side. The guy in white with the hockey mask is like Thor who fell. Hehe

Besides, his V8 was destroyed earlier int he movie.
