Memories mixed up... From now on here I am... concerts, nights, days... I was shivering inside. Tonite I'll be alone... where do lonely nights go? Tell me...
I just watched this six more times, this is classic Bryan Ferry in every way. Words aren't enough, I saw him live many times in the 70's and 80's. Just the best.
What totally amazing footage from my favourite band and singer, so heartfelt, and Ferry looks so fantastic here. Their concerts were different in that the audience was very well dressed and fashionable, different than most concerts then.
I'd never heard this cover before......very cool take on the song. This is one of my alltime favorite songs. Still prefer John Lennon singing it. As far as the comment that Lennon's "version" was good, but that Donny Hathaway's was the original..???? What cave did you crawl out of? Lol! Lennon wrote the song.
When the world out there is getting you down you can immerse yourself in 6 minutes of magic. Turn the lights down, pour another wine. Thank you M4r Lennon. Thank you Mr Ferry and your muscians for making a moment of magic which can be re-lived over and over via youtube.
first time i have ever seen a thumbs down for a mention of John f'n Lennon. *shrugs* no respect for the original genius that wrote the tune? such a shame.
I have whole concert on vhs cassette the name is Roxy Music Live at Frejus France I have watched hundred times. This song is finale of the concert. Superb concert!
About a year after this video was recorded, I was at Roxy's Radio City Music Hall performance at the invitation of their stage manager. When this song came on, we started slow dancing at the side of the stage. Bryan Ferry drifted over and sang several bars of the song to us. It was by far the most romantic, touching moment of my life. STILL the most romantic moment of my life even though the guy turned out to be married...aarrgghh. Beautiful song and beautiful performance.
What a performance, from the most talented band, and singer ever. Sheer class. With their orignal distinctive sound, and superb production. A deeply emotional song for me, for obviouse reasons. The best cover of a song ever. I feel every second of this song in my heart, those strings. Great music, from a time when, music was great. A timeless, haunting piece, as good today as ever. Just amazing. Thank for posting. Beauty beyond words. LOL .
@anstonian: I can't understand people who say that Roxy Music did the best cover of the song...I guess the version by Frankie Miller is just not famous enough. That's sad.
In case anyone is wondering, this is from Roxy Musics 1982 (not 1983) tour, when they were promoting their "Avalon" album. You can get this on DVD; it's called "The High Road"
@w0mblemania VHS ? did the same with the original john lennog version on the Philips VCR (first video recorder) when brian ferry was still in his dipers
