Ahh, this seems pretty much identical to Unreal Editor that comes with Unreal Tournament 3. If you are familiar with that, you should be able to use Unreal Development Kit pretty effortlessly.

You can't see anything because you need lights, hold L and left click to place a light.Then build all.

@rugbyunited Hope this helps, I was using a later, newer version of UDK, that was updated to 2011. It made me lag so much so I quit, but I looked at the download page and seen one from 2009...I downloaded it and installed that one, and it didn't lagg at all, so get the 2009 one, number 2 on the list. Hope this helps.

Actually guys most of the time you'll have 2x2 configuration set and it's just a case of clicking the maximise window at the top of the viewport.

@mmogamer1993 Well yes... It's what they used to make Gears of War 2. Epic Games created Unreal Engine. :) The first version was released in 1998. You will however need other programs too. You probably couldn't build an entire game with this alone. You'd need 3D modeling programs like 3dsmax or something like that I expect for character building and stuff. But then maybe you can make a game with this alone. I've never tried. :)

@greenmahidol i'm guessing you're talking about a pixelshader? first of all check if you have a gpu or if you're using onboard graphics (if your monitor is plugged right into your motherboard, you're using onboard). if you're using onboard i suggest you get a gpu, espescially if you plan on making or playing games on your pc. if you do have one, update your gpu drivers. i don't really think there's anything else you can do.

SourceDK, is like so opposite from UDK,

With SDK you use Bsp brushes to make your world look alive,

With UDK, you have to use Static.Meshes to decorate your map.

Plus with SDK you have to worry about leaks and junk
